Hey there - another Virginia Cookie fan here.... can't make it to the AI show either...

What kind of venues do you think he'll play for his solo tour? I actually live in Richmond and would love to see him play Toad's or the National. What Wash DC venues would you think?

Hey neighbor! Sorry you can't make it sad.gif

As to where he might play in the DC area, that will depend on time of year and if he is by himself or opens for someone else (like Daughtry did). If it's winter time or early spring, could be Lisner Auditorium, Constitution Hall or the Warner Theater? Summertime opens up more places, like Nissan Pavilion or, as ODCD said, the pavilion in Va. Beach.

I would think they may book himat smaller venues, at least at first, so they don't risk having it not sell out, as happened to Kelly Clarkon (they booked her at places like the Verizon Center, after all her radio hits, and the ticket sales were so slow, she ended up cancelling that tour).

I wish you could be there! I'm taking off all day the day of the show and going to play David Cook roulette and hope, hope, hope I get to meet him!

Is there a restaurant near the Verizon Center where we Cookie-fans can meet before the show? Isn't there a Planet Hollywood right across the street??? My friend Vicky and I are taking the day off as well to go on a 'David Hunt'! tongue.gif

There's a bunch of restaurants around there. I think there's a Clyde's (really nice) and also the Chophouse, Austin Grill and the Hard Rock isn't too far ... also Legal Seafoods and McCormick & Schmicks ... so yeah, lots to choose from!

I figure we'll pick something after we meet the buses and before the show - late lunch / early dinner.

I caught Daughtry at the Verizon Center Bon Jovi concert and although we were sitting behind the stage I still really loved being that close to him - LOL. Would've loved to see him by himself, though, the sound wasn't that great from where we were sitting and didn't do him justice. Great concert though - wish I could revisit the VC for AI - oh, well...

When we went to the Bon Jovi concert there this spring - we had dinner at Ruby Tuesday right across the street. Very convenient location - you park underground and are able to walk to everything you need.

I forgot about Ruby Tuesdays! I think that's right around the corner from the box office ... right across the street from Clyde's? That might be a good middle of the road place to meet ... not too expensive.

Okay... so where is the best place to park for the day? I will be traveling alone so want something safe, especially when leaving the concert that night.

Hi all! I can tell you a Virginia spot that I am sure that he will hit at some point. Daughtry has been there twice and many artists rave about it. It's called The NorVa and it's in Norfolk. It ROCKS!! It's got some of the best acoustics on the East Coast for a smaller venue. On the third floor, there is a basketball court and other amenities. At any rate, I am still trying my best to get to the DC show! Where there is a will, there's a way right?

Hey there, laeddie! I'm in Powhatan. I'm meeting Suze up in DC for the Idols tour... going up alone since I couldn't find anyone around here to go with me. I'm taking the day off too and making a full day of it - try to find the buses before the show, etc.

I hate to admit, but I haven't been to a concert since I've been in Virginia (about 8 years now), except for catching an act or two at Innsbrook. When DC goes on a solo tour, hopefully he'll play someplace close by. What are the best venues? I hear Wolf Trap is good, and VA Beach.

I saw the NorVa when I was down that way on business in May. I ate at a ridiculously expensive restaurant (thanks to my expense acount laugh.gif ) that was right across the street! Didn't know Daughtry had played there though!

And yes you must come to DC Melissa ... we can wear our pretty pins! smile.gif

Especially if were going along (be careful!) - I'd park in the underground lot that's connected to the Verizon Center. I can't remember the street name, but it's the next thing you come to right after the entrance to the Verizon Center. You won't even have to go outside...

The No. Va. folks may have a better idea, but this worked for us for the Bon Jovi concert...

Mellly, did you see Daughtry at Norva? I've never been... but wish I had... Where is it exactly? I used to travel to Norfolk a lot on business, but only know where the hospitals are - LOL

I heard after the fact that he had performed in Richmond at RIR before the Nascar race... I'm so NOT a Nascar fan... so I missed that too. The only time I saw him was when he opened for Bon Jovi and it made me wish I'd seen him in a smaller venue.

I've been to the NorVa many times. Actually, Daughtry has played there twice and sold out both times. I've seen Elliott there, Taylor Hicks, as well as other acts. I don't know if you remember, but this season on Idol when Ryan Tedder and One Republic sang on the Idol finale? They were actually scheduled to perform at the NorVa that night and had to reschedule the appearance! It's a great, intimate place and I hope that David performs there this fall/winter! Believe it or not, Justin Timberlake has performed there as well! It's right behind MacArthur Mall on Monticello Ave.

I lived in Norfolk/Virginia Beach area for 15 years, but NorVa wasn't there then. We always went to the Chrysler Center or Scope or Hampton Coliseum for shows. I've been gone from the area for 10 years, so I guess it's time for me to revisit. A Cookie concert at NorVa would be the perfect excuse. rolleyes.gif

Hi everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself as a resident of the DC (as in District of Columbia!) metro area who's unable to go to the area concerts (<<cries>>). I'm waiting for David's solo tour to come to town though and wild horses couldn't keep me away when/if he comes here by himself or with another band. I'm anxious to hear all about your experiences on the 14th and I hope and pray that every one of you gets a hug from David. I hope you all have a wonderful time.

Personally, and probably selfishly, I wish that David would come to the 930 Club in DC. I work very close to that venue and I've been there several times. It's intimate, has ample gated parking available and would be the perfect place for David. Also selfishly, the buses pull up right outside the Club so there could be opportunities to actually meet him. I've seen Gomez three times there and after the shows the bandmates always belly up to the bar and drink and talk and party with the concertgoers. I think David would love to do that. The guys in Gomez are such nice guys, they also love their fans. Some of the other acts I've seen there avoid the bar at all costs, but I'd be willing to bet David would love that opportunity.

It was nice to meet you!

Nice to meet you, too... I can't go to the DC AI concert either and am anxiously waiting the solo tour... wasn't familiar with the 930 Club in Dc, so that's another one I'll add to my watch list in the fall/winter...

I totally agree! The 9:30 Club would be a great venue for David as it has a real Rock N' Roll atmosphere and would be a nice intimate setting. The club holds around 1500 people I think, so it would sell out fast! I could see him also playing Rams Head Live in Baltimore, as it is similar to 9:30, but a bit bigger. I just hope he doesn't do the Verizon Center, I seriously hate that venue. I am not going to the AI tour this time around since I waited too long to get tickets and all that are left are nosebleed seats. Anyone who has ever sat in the top section of the Verizon Center knows just how awful those seats are. I was getting vertigo the last time I tried to sit there and ended up going down to the box office to pay for better seats! wink.gif I have looked at the Stub Hub seats, but the prices are so jacked up for the better seats and I am not independently wealthy...lol.

Rams Head would also be fabulous. Or the Power Plant, I saw Lifehouse there a few years ago and met Jason Wade. (Also met Sting's son (but I forget his name!) who fronts a band called Fiction Plane. They backed Lifehouse.)

Isn't the DC show going to be at the Verizon Center??? I thought so...and I totally agree, that's why I didn't go, I hate that place too. I'd personally rather wait until DC's solo tour to see him. (But that doesn't negate in the least those who are going's expected experience!). I know that the AI tour has to be in larger venues, but I prefer more intimate settings myself.

laura - if you want to check them out, you can go to 930 Club's website and see the types of bands booked there. It's a really great place. There aren't any seats to speak of, except for a few bar seats up top and some benches. So you're practically one on one with the band and if you can get up close to the stage you are literally inches away from the band. It's so intimate.

Yep, it is at Verizon. I am gonna hold out for the solo tour too, unless by some miracle I win tickets from a radio contest or someone who is selling tix at stub hub lowers their prices back to face value. dry.gif

Wow, what are they charging for tickets? I've never heard of Stub Hub, I checked out tickets more than a month ago at Ticketmaster and the remaining seats were terrible.

It would be awesome to win a radio contest, I wonder which station will be promoting the tour? Do you know yet?

I really need to get off this site sometime today, but I'm so in love with the tour pics, recaps and videos that I'm not getting much done today...
yiddidea
Stub Hub is a site where people can sell their tix - www.stubhub.com. Tix on there for DC range from the high $80's (for nosebleed) to the THOUSANDS for good seats. UGH. I have looked at the Baltimore show too, but those tickets aren't much better. If I remember correctly, the nosebleed section there isn't AS bad, but still not great.

I am guessing if any DC station is gonna do a contest it will be Hot 99.5. Maybe Mix 107.3, but I doubt it. I will keep my ear out and let you know if I hear anything. smile.gif

I just added 99.5 to my car radio buttons. Did they change their format recently? I can't stand the other station, personally. They drive me crazy with commercials. I like Chili and Carson in the afternoons though, at least they're tolerable...

As the time gets closer and closer for the concert I'm hoping I'm not sorry about not going. I just can't afford those tickets though.

Someone on this thread mentioned that they're going to the concert alone? That's another predicament that I have, I don't have anyone to go with me. My husband won't go and my girlfriends who might go are either away on vacation or like me, can't afford the high ticket price for good seats. Now I'm so torn!
browneyedwoman
Don't forget Rosa Mexicana. You only have to roll across the street to get to the entrance and it is a half of block to where the buses come in. I think there is a new restaraunt in the Verizon Center, just around the corner from where the buses come in, The Greene Turtle at the corner of 6th And F St.

MellyBelly
I remember seeing the Greene Turtle when I went to DC during spring break time this year. smile.gif

I wanted to share my DC buses experience with everyone from season 5. My sister and I had fabulous seats in the 8th row. I was concerned that with being on the floor that I wouldn't be able to get out quickly or find the buses before a huge crowd congregated outside. By some miracle, the exit that we happened to leave from was the right one. We got outside and they did have the small metal waist-high barricades set up on both sides. We waited for a long time but no Idols. When the door rose up, the buses left and all of the boys (Ace, Taylor, Bucky, Elliott, and Chris) were at the front of the bus and were waving to everyone. There is a large door that opens and the buses pull inside. If we are lucky, they will put up the barricades and they will come out to sign shortly after they get there! smile.gif The group this year seems to be much more accommodating to the fans so I am going to stay optimistic!

I can't believe I didn't find this thread until now........I am going to the Aug. 14th concert and am in desperate need of figuring out where the busses go!! I read someone said the 6th st. side of the building..........do you know if they go under the building? My friends in DC aren't as obsessed as I am so I'm having trouble getting them to find out for me (I live in NC but am going up to DC for the show).........

someone help me please!!!! Is there a group of you meeting ahead of time for the busses? I was assuming they would arrive around noon on the 14th b/c that's what the Home of the Word Nerds forum says most people have had experience getting pics w/ David by waiting on the busses around noon on the day of the concert........but then someone else here said they have a day off before the DC show......so now I'm afraid they'll arrive on the 13th???

OMG I've GOT to meet David and get a pic w/ him!!! Anyone w/ info on where the busses go or if people are organizing a fan gathering to try to get pics PLEASE let me know or PM me and we can all meet up!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!

At least a few of us have talked about meeting before hand. We still have (unfortunately! laugh.gif ) a couple more weeks to figure everything out.

They have a show in Baltimore on the 12th, then up to Philly on the 13th, then back down to DC on the 14th ... so, not sure if a hotel is in the picture or not, but in any event they will have to come to the venue early for press and soundcheck.

Can't wait! biggrin.gif

I'm a new poster here (been lurking for months and months) but I remember hearing all about One Republic having to postpone their NorVa concert to play for the Idol finale (who blames them? Idol is amazing exposure!)

And yep, another Virginian here who is upset that the Idols are missing our state! I'm too far away to travel to either D.C. or N.C., but I'm betting (hoping!) that David will play the NorVa on his solo tour. I'm thinking the TED and the VA Beach Ampitheather are too big, but he might play the NTelos Portsmouth Pavillion. But I'd bet on the NorVa for his first of probably many stops in the Southeastern VA area.

I was so sad when Daughtry came to the NorVa and the tickets sold out SO fast. I was planning on going to see Daughtry play in Fluvanna County, but those tickets sold out right under my nose... I seriously missed them by 10 minutes. dry.gif I just hope I can manage to snag some tickets to David's solo tour.

I'll be living through the August 14th concertgoers though! wink.gif

So, I have been checking daily to see if Ticketmaster was going to release any new seats for the DC show and haven't had much luck. Up until tonight all I would get were serious nosebleed seat. Imagine my surprise when this evening when I checked and saw 2 random seats pop up here: Floor section 5, row B, seats 5-6! I swooped in on those puppies as fast as I could find my credit card. biggrin.gif SO, I guess I am going to the show now! YAY!!!

I knew I would end up going. I would have kicked myself really hard if I passed this up. See everyone there!

Wow! Very lucky... I've been cheking daily too and every time I check the only seats I land on are up on the 400s... I'm still debating on going or not, it's a good 4 hour haul for me but it's the closest concert. I'm afraid if I don't go I'll be kicking myself forever...

Though today I checked out the Newark seats available for the concert that took place tonight and they had super close seats available... the front middle section about 10 rows back. I checked for the next 2 venues and they had close seats available too.

EDIT: I just checked and they had Section 6 row B seats 11-12 open! Ahhh! I really wish I could know for sure if I am going or not... I would snatch up these tickets now if I knew dry.gif

That is so funny, I had those exact seats the first time I checked but the screen crashed and when I went on again the other seats popped up. If you search for single seats you only get options on the 400s. I hope you get tix! One thing you could do is go ahead and buy them and if you don't end up going you could sell them on StubHub?

Haha, that's crazy we had the same seats. At least that means the tickets aren't selling super fast, so I'll still have a chance to debate more. Yeah, when I searched for a single ticket I got the 100s.

I'm about to just go on and buy them. I'm hindered by the fact that I have to rely on a ride to get there, so that just complicates things. I guess I could drive there by myself, but I just don't see it happening.

Just checked again and excellent seats are still available. It's so tempting... it's a slap in the face when I see perfectly good seats and I just don't know if I can go or not, and the decision is left up to someone else. sad.gif

Ugh, that stinks. I understand your hesitation though. If you end up getting tix def let me know. I'll be curious to see how close to my seats you end up in. wink.gif

Congrats on the ticket find Deana!
I've been checking every day too but I can only get 400 to come up as well.
Hope I get to see you at the concert! (being optimistic that I'll get a seat)

ROLL CALL! The Washington DC concert is 2 weeks from tonight! Who has tickets and where are you sitting? I'm in the "light-headed" (not quite nose-bleed) 217 section, close to the stage end.

Also, who is planning to try to meet the idols before or after? Does anyone have a sign or banner prepared? I've been giving it some thought, but haven't decided on what exactly to do yet.

Hi--- I am in section 104; I think like row K. I was going to make a sign that said DAVID COOK for President. Being Washington, D.C. and all. I was thinking that we should give him something that is iconic of Washington, D.C. like the terrible towel. But I couldn't think of anything. ANy ideas?

I was gonna see if the manager at either the Whatever Turtle (attached to Verizon center near where the buses come in) or at Rosa Mexicana next closes restaraunt, could hold their back room for us and we could eat and drink and leave our stuff in there. ANd have a place to cool down.

Anyone up for that?
MellyBelly
I'll be there! I don't have my tickets yet but I will be coming. smile.gif I believe that the restaurant is called the Greene Turtle.

Also, I've been to two concerts at the Verizon Center before but I don't remember... is there a parking garage right beside the venue? I'm trying to figure out how much it is going to cost to have the car parked from like 11AM to 11PM!

HI!!! I'm going. I've got a teeshirt, my DC bracelets, my DC necklaces.......I'm all set!!!!! I am making two posters, one for David and one for MJ (my friends love MJ). We are planning on trying to meet them BEFORE the show but also one of my friends on Facebook that I actually met through DC fan sites posted her pics yesterday and she met them before AND after so it sounds like they do both.

PM me and maybe we can all meet up somewhere before hand? I hear they get there around noon the day of? We are going out EARRRRRRRLY in the AM to make sure..............

Hope I get to meet some fellow Cookie-ites!!!

oh and my seats are in nosebleed section big time. boo. i can't remember off hand but it's like section K i think, seats int he 400 level? something like that.....

I think there is a parking garage and i think that's actually where the busses will be? My friend actually has a brownstone within walking distance so i'm staying w/ her and walking over.....i can see if she can check though how much parking would be. i don't know where you're coming from but if you're traveling and staying in a hotel, it might be worth it just to cab over or metro it. might be a ton cheaper for you.

YAY! Glad you're coming after all! Can't wait to meet you and all the other patients of this asylum tongue.gif We definitely need to plan something!

When I was last at Verizon Center (Bruce Springsteen last fall) we parked in a garage right across the street from the Box Office. I have no idea what the rates are though.

Right now, I have seats in 113, right next to the stage ... still looking to upgrade if I can though! unsure.gif

You know I'll be there! Me and my 19 year old daughter ... Section 113 (I think you're right above me?)

Definitely will be there before and likely after too ... my daughter is pretty artistic so she's got poster assignment laugh.gif Still not sure what I wanna say though.

Have we figured out where the busses will go yet?

THere are alot of garages now. I park on F Street (there is a lot, right next to Rosa Mexicana and caddie corner to the Greene Turtle. Then after the show, I dono't have to walk that far, because I know I am gonna be tired. If you get there at 11am; there should be plenty of parking there.
There is also a underground lot near Clyde's but that is at opposite end of building than where the buses are parked. And after scoping out the Tulsa venue with my Dad yesterday, I almost wore my butt out, walking AROUND the whole darn thing. WON"T be doing that again.

Nice to meet you, too... I can't go to the DC AI concert either and am anxiously waiting the solo tour... wasn't familiar with the 930 Club in Dc, so that's another one I'll add to my watch list in the fall/winter...

Yes, 9:30 club would be great!!! Gosh, I remember that venue well (actually when that neighborhood wasn't so nice!!).
Well, I think we are going to have tons of opportunities to have David in some venues where he is just jamming.

See you guys in a few weeks!!

Buses come in on 6th Street, I think. I'll have to look at a map, because I am numerically challenged, but it is the east side of the building, and F street. But I Think it is 6th and F Street. As I remember, I don't think the buses go in the driveway, I think they are on the street. But it just adjacent to the Green Turtle where the buses park.

I tried to get a room at the Courtyard Marriott (because I am platinum rewards there) but I think the rates were crazy. There is also a Kimpton Hotel, but I thought that for the number of nights I had to stay there the rate was crazy. So I ended up at the JW Marriott at Penn and 14th Street a few blocks from the White House, if you put in code M11, the rate was like $179, CHEAP for DC standards. IF you find something closer let me know. just pm me.

Hi Melissa!!! I am so excited. A few of us that are going into DC for the concert have been talking about hotels. I think I am staying at the JW Marriott. I was hoping to get in Courtyard by Marriott which is closer to Verizon, but it is about 2 the price. Oh well.

I'll send an email out to everyone, or post here next week, when we decide on what we are doing.
