I completely agree. I think that song (both live and studio) have been his best so far. It gave both me and my mother chills, and she's more of a Carly fan than anything.

I'm surprised by the Little Sparrow recording, actually - it was his weakest performance (I think so, anyway), but his strongest recording. Isn't that a little strange? :/

Well, considering his situation at the time of his performance, health and family-wise, you've got to give him a TEENSY break about that! lol...it was a tender performance, I think.....I love it!

Well, yes, but that doesn't change the performance. D:
And it's not really a bad thing, if you think about it - even at his worst, he's still one of the best. Surely that's a good thing.

I have to get ready for work, but I just had to talk about David's performance of "
Innocent" last night! All I can say is I won't lie in the very beginning of the song I was just a bit tad worried that he wasn't going to sing it well

...THEN BOOM he really got into it. I have to say the way he sang the song, especially the part with Cancer (I know that was for Lindsey and his brother), and then wearing Lindsey Rose's bracelet and then writing "
Give Back" on his hand...ALL I CAN SAY IS DAVID COOK ROCKED THE HOUSE last night!!!!!!!

He's a true Hero, Inspiration, and GREAT Role Model. I'm not going to go to the extreme and say he's perfect, because no one's perfect, but he really has a great heart!

I SOOOO CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR THE STUDIO VERSION OF THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Eleanor Rigby" will probably always be my Number #1 favorite, BUT I have to say "
Innocent" is just as well as my most favorite or even beating that song lol...
God Bless everyone and I sooo can't wait for tonight's show...."
Idol Gives Back" IS MY MOST FAVORITE SHOW OF THE WHOLE SEASON!!!!!!!!!

Why is the irony always following me? I buy the song off of iTunes, because me, the Cook loving fan that I am, can't wait and get the song....then less than a half hour later, you post it on here.....I should learn to save my $$ on there for the finale....when they have 2 songs or so a piece....
I'm so impatient like that....go fig.....not your fault at all, travis, but you know....timing just sucks...

Ugh, same here.
At least it's worth the 99 cents, though. Much better than the live performance in my opinion.

I really loved the Innocent studio performance. It rocks. I prefer his over OLP and I love OLP, but David is much better. All of his studio versions I love, I like listen to it over and over and over and aggravate my family because it's annoying to them, but I don't care what they think because our Cookie is the next AI. Vote, vote, vote. Sadly again, I won't be able to vote Tuesday night. I have night shifts.

you can get it off limewire (i did), but you can't post anything that is bought on iTunes because it's strictly protected - remember all donations that are bought from iTunes (American Idol Gives Back performances) go straight to the charity.

OK - I'm stunned (as always). I've got to be honest - I was *less* than whelmed by his performance this week. Which bummed me out to no end. "Oh noooooes!" I thought. "Am I going to become apathetic? Maybe I overrated him? Maybe he's going downhill - the AI machine wearing him down to nothing?" I had visions (stop laughing...unless it's in sympathy!) of how I could get him on the phone and give him vocal coaching for finding his first note and supporting his lower register and making the darn band back down a little to let him shine....
And then I buy "Always Be My Baby." Just because it's DC and of *course* I'll buy it. Even if I'm skeptical. I mean - his studio "Innocent" is in my top-25! Aaaaaand....
Oh.
Wow.
Wooooooooooooow.
*thud*
Or, as we say: POMF! (Puddle Of Mush on the Floor!)
He *may* be worn out in the AI machine and life - he *definitely* is waaaaaaaaaay too limited now by ONLY a minute and a half of music - but let's just say I'm on 22 plays and I've only had it two hours....

I appreciate your honesty EmilyS. The first few notes were a bit rough, but David got into the groove quicky after that. I agree, it was not his best vocally, but the arrangement, the passion, his delivery was astounding.
I play this song constantly, it's seared into my brain, I think Mariah described it as haunting, that's a perfect description.
