Full Version: Tips for Tuesday night!
David Cook > The Other Stuff > American Idol (General)
emorhous
I realize that throughout this season we have all been voting like CRAZY but as the season draws to a close, it is especially important that we support David Cook with all we have. I know people have posted tips and ideas for how to increase votes throughout other threads. However, I figured we could have this one thread that we could use to compile ideas on how to increase voting for Tuesday night! (If somebody has a thread like this already, message me so I can delete this one haha).
Some of my ideas.....
1. This has been mentioned before by somebody else, but I think it is FANTASTIC. If you have AT&T on your cell phone, text multiple votes at once (most phones I know of will allow around 10 recipients). That way, you can get 10 votes in in under a minute!
2. If you have Facebook, MySpace, etc. you could include "VOTE FOR DAVID COOK TONIGHT" in your status to alert all your friends. Once you know his 1-866 numbers, you could also add that in there.

Ya'll please add on with your ideas!!! We need to get David Cook through to the finale so he can become our next AMERICAN IDOL!!!!

We could like all go on youtube and get on all his videos and tell people to vote and give them the number to call nd text. I mean like everyone do it.!!!!!!

Start voting as soon as the very last performance is done or try and see if you can vote during the very last song. smile.gif

There seems to be some discrepancy according to what I am reading on the AI boards about if you have a cell phone that is registered in one time zone and say you live somewhere else and try to vote in the time zone where you actually reside. We don't know if those votes are truly be counted or not.

Read this thread and you will see what I am talking about.

It's the next to the last post on that page and it's in a quote.

If you have a land line, use Dial Idol and you can get about 500 votes in. If you are outside the U.S. or in the Pacific time zone or don't have a land line you can use Gizmo to vote.

For help with Gizmo, go here: http://www.david-cook.org/Gizmo-t2780.html

For help with Dial Idol, go here: http://www.david-cook.org/Dail-Idol-t2944.html

Remember to vote EARLY -- the phone lines actually open up starting around 8:55 p.m. For Dial Idol to vote early, you have to forward the time on your computer past 9:02 p.m. (that's officially the time the show is supposed to end and Dial Idol won't start until then unless you "trick" it by putting your clock forward.) But some time after 9:02 make sure you put the clock back to the correct time so you can vote all the way until AI turns off the phone lines exactly at 11 p.m. (all times are Eastern.)

Even if you don't have an AT&T cell phone to text, you can still certainly call the 866 number on your cell phone. This is especially good if you have a lot of anytime minutes or unlimited night time minutes. And, yes! it is physically possible to dial TWO cell phones at once!!! Note: cell phones seem to get more busy signals than land lines. Just keep trying. Every little bit helps!

By the way, the official AI voting rules say that your voting time period is according to the area code of your cell phone despite your physical location. For instance, if you have a NY area code for your cell phone, but just happen to physically be in Los Angeles, you have to call during the East Coast voting period. Conversely, if you have a California area code on your cell phone and you just happen to be in, say, Pennsylvania, you have to call during the West Coast voting period.

Recruit friends and family members -- my husband, and two daughters will be dialing our 3 non-AT&T cell phones, while Dial Idol will be running on my land line, and while I try to do the power texting on the Go Phone I just bought. Now, if someone has the instructions on how to do the 10 texts at once thing on the Go Phone, could you please post in this thread because I can't figure it out! (I only know how to do 1 text at a time, sad.gif .)

Also, I run Dial Idol to call both phone numbers equally (but I think this week there'll be three numbers?), and then I use mostly line #2 for the cell phones, but alternate back to #1 if there are too many busy signals. One thing I read somewhere was that the night Daughtry was voted off the traffic on his second line was very low. Last week per Dial Idol's stats, DC's #2 line had more votes get through than line #1.

And whether you can run Dial Idol or not on your computer, go over to their home page http://www.dialidol.com/ and vote in their poll "Who Wants to Win the Most." DC is ahead with 43 percent, and as we know David himself said, "Nobody can say they've worked harder for this or have wanted it more than me."

Thank you for posting that about the time zone thing. That's exactly what that link I posted was talking about. smile.gif I'm going to attempt voting with 2 phones this week. smile.gif

I'm going to do what I do every single week. Begin voting when the show is over until 11PM. I don't want to beg for votes or resort to gimmickry to get votes. If the voting public likes what they see, they will vote. This whole voting system is a mess because it encourages a fanbase to resort to all kinds of crazy stuff to vote. I would love it if we were limited like other shows. Then, we would really see how popular a person really is. I think that David would do really well under that system because he is that good.

Oh, I agree the voting system is the pits. It just ends up being a popularity contest. The lengths people are going to in order to garner the most votes for their contestant is outrageous and, to me, border on unethical.

The only other show I've ever voted for was "Dancing With the Stars" and that limits you to 10 phone calls from any one phone number and 10 Internet votes from any one email address. I'm not sure what others do (like "So You Think You Can Dance" and "America's Got Talent" etc) but unlimited voting is unfair. Most viewers are casual voters (and, really, only about 10 percent of the viewing audience even votes) and will only vote 5 or 10 times and then go on with their lives. Of course, the younger you are the more likely you are to vote for extended periods of time, so a contestant skewing younger demographics are apt to get more votes. I know that I never voted more than 5 or 10 times in one night before Dial Idol came around. And even then I usually only voted for maybe 30 minutes. I remember last year for one week I voted for Sanjaya 75 times (hey, I thought he was amusing!) and then thought, well that's more than enough. This is the first year I've been going the whole 2 hours with Dial Idol, and even that I didn't start until "Billie Jean."

I have a real personal problem with the Go Phones because I feel it's a waste of money to be buying dozens of cell phones when you already have one. And what are all these people going to do with them after May 20th? Are they just going to throw them out? I hope they're at least donated to women's shelters and refurbishing centers. I also feel like it's a blatant manipulation by the sponsor AT&T and the AI producers. For instance, why is texting ONLY allowed with AT&T phones? Other brands of cell phones are perfectly capable of texting. It's to encourage the sale of these basically disposable Go Phones. I feel like it's buying votes. It's not a true test of talent -- the fanbase willing to shell out the most money wins. And I was really appalled by a group of ADULTS from another fanbase raising $1200 to buy Go Phones when $1200 would have been a nice donation to a charity or some other good cause. I hate the mean-spirited competition between fanbases that this has caused.

Having said all that, though, I caved and bought a Go Phone this afternoon, which I will donate/recycle once it has served its purpose the next two Tuesday nights. But I feel "dirty" having to succumb to the pressure in order to make sure that the most truly talented and deserving contestant, David Cook, wins when that should just be an automatic given.

Hopefully, he won't go first again this week! LOL Usually, someone who posts at MJ's site usually goes to the rehearsals each week and when that person comes back, we usually get performance order and reports on the comments from the rehearsals. TMZ usually gives us what need in terms of what songs they are singing. We get that about 6:45-7:00 pm eastern time on Tuesdays. smile.gif
Sarah
Awesome. thanks. I always like to have the numbers early - so I can go ahead and get them into my cell.
Pam08
We wil of course 3 different phone numbers this week because there will be 3 songs, so the important part will be to pay close attention the the #'s on the screen after the 1st song and write them down so that you can program them into your phones! smile.gif
