Full Version: Should David Cook and Andrew Cook....duet?!
David Cook > The Other Stuff > American Idol (General)

ok, CRAZY thought that just came into my head, but wouldn't it be awesome if, for one of the songs DC performs on tuesday, that he has his borther come up and sing either a duet or backup for him??? then we;ll be able to see how good his brother actually is, and it would most probably be one of the best moments in AI phenomenon =)

it was just a thought, but it just might work

what do you think??

I don't think that a duet on the show is going to happen. Although it would be pretty cool, Andrew has an awesome voice as well (or at least on the one song on his myspace music page he sounded really good). But its funny because I was just thinking that they should have some sort of collaboration in the future. It would be so awesome!

I have never heard Andrew sing. I would like to hear it.

I would love to hear Andrew sing. The first round auditions are a strange thing from what I have heard. You can be wonderful and they may not put you through. They are looking for a lot of things that don't always have to do with great singing.

I would be strongly against it early on in David's career...It could go over bad with the masses.
I think if Andrew is serious about music, then he needs to do it all independantly. Otherwise he will be in his big bro's shadow. He wont get credit. It's a delicate thing., two musicians in the same family. We would not want them to look like the Simpsons (dont get me wrong I have nothing against them). Just...not for David.
He needs to do his own thing.
Just my opinion.

I agree its a delicate thing, but I do think they would be great together because they are both very talented. And yes, the first round of auditions is basically all about who they think is ratings worthy in one form or another. I know several people who have tried out and have a whole bunch of talent, but didn't make it past the first round. Yes, its a talent competition, but first and foremost its a TV show and they are trying to find people who going to be entertaining in one way or another.

Here's Andrew's myspace page if anyone wants to take a listen to his music. I think his voice has a similar tone to David's, especially David's from his Axium days.

No, I definitely don't think they should. That is, I don't think they should in the competition, it strikes me as being just...off. Not right. It's David that's competing, it should be him singing. Having Andrew would take the focus off David and just be overall distracting, plus it would seem like a cheesy way to get votes, you know?

Now, to have him and Andrew duet on a non-competition song, that would be totally different and I think that would be really cool.

In the future, it's worth a shot. But not during the competition. With the possibility of Andrew auditioning again next year, it's best to let them define themselves individually in their musical capabilities...in my opinion, anyway.

i think that it would be soo cool if they did a duet together... it would not be on the show but on davids album.. hehe
would LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!

Like you've all said, I think a duet during the competition would be WRONG. Now, after the show, when David does his post-Idol album, I think it would be a great idea and I would love to hear it.

That would be a good idea for the results show, but for the performance night, it's David's time to shine... unless Archuleta does a duet with his dad! LOL!!!
kookyC
that would be cool but i doubt the producers will allow it.

off topic:
i wonder if Andrew will audition next year?

I think in the future, when DC has a settled career then they should definitely duet but while he's finding his feet over the next few years then it might not be such a good idea.

cool.gif I have to say that I am curious about hearing Andrew sing. I don't think it needs to be included on a CD, but it would be interesting if they could make some kind of appearance together to duet. That sounds fun.

Bucky Covington from AI tried out with his twin brother, Rocky, and now he plays the drums in Bucky's band. Like David, AI brought Bucky's brother on stage with him. Bucky finished in the top 10 and is doing surprisingly well in the country arena. I think his CD is pretty good. I liked his voice on AI, but he didn't seem as 'polished' as DC does. By that I mean he seemed less experienced and less ready for prime time.

Being good is not always a factor at those first auditions. They are looking for many things and have an idea of how many people they want. Sometimes they will pass up good singers for some that are not so good because they have a certain look they find interesting. You never know what they have in mind and it is kind of a hit and miss at those first auditions. David was lucky and Andrew was not that day. That is not to say the roles may have been reversed at anther time. It was just what happened that particular day in front of those particular judges. Some people will try at more than one location to get past that first round.

I mean, Andrew really did the audition, rite? Cus i don't remember saw him. Anyone have the video?

I've never heard Andrew sing anything but I'd love to hear his voice. I think either way the two should sing something together. It would be a great idea.

And what miss.gee said about singing "I Am Your Brother" would be hilarious!
I bet they'd have a great time doing that!

I don't think Andrew made it far enough to sing in front of the 3 TV judges.

David explained that there are other auditions before that. The TV judges don't attend the cattle calls at the big stadiums. They see a smaller group that has already been weeded out for them. It's usually a combination of good and bad singers, and people who look or sound strange or different. I've surmised that DC caught their attention more than AC because of the 'look' (combined with his good voice) he had during the audition process. I imagine AC can sing, but nothing set him apart.

I tend to agree with you. I can't imagine weeding through that many people. They have at least two early auditions before they get to audition in front of the judges. I'm sure it is an interesting process.

I am not sure what Andrew's background is as far as bands etc, but I think what they saw in David besides just the great voice was someone who has spent 10 years fronting bands. He is a singer and a performer.
