Everyone got an exciting day?

I have nothing to do, as ever. May pop into town later - that's about as exciting as it gets!

Ooh, and Apprentice later.
*TheLastRockette*
Oooo good choice! Still got a few AI7 vids to get thru though! Only at the top 3!! So may be a while yet...
at least the apprentice is on tonight!
letticea
Isn't it the last in the series tonight?

I'm definately not going into town. Its freezing today and I think it's going to rain!
Got to love the British weather!!!!
*TheLastRockette*

tongue.gif Well actually I'm currently at uni, so I'm in Yorkshire!
*TheLastRockette*
Sarah, I live in the Midlands! Lol...not really as south as I used to be!!

Has anyone noticed how Paula takes the name of whatever song their singing, and somehow incorporates it into her feedback?
'David A, the sun will never go down on you'
'David C, you may have no found what your looking for, but we have'

I mean, apart from being a singer, what can she really offer?

Oh, I know! I find it annoying. Although it's better than her babbling on about the colour of their voice or whatnot.

Hi girls,

I just get really embarassed by her pyschobabble, "You're standing in your truth" comments. WTF does that mean? When are you not standing in your truth? How do you stand in your truth? Is it like a bathtub?

Oh and the pictures are gorgeous Polly, thank you! wub.gif

Paula talks in metaphors... think with an open mind. Truth is like what YOU are... it's YOU and nothing else. At least, that's what I take from it.

That is very true... I guess I filter everything to take meaning. Apparently it's the trait of a writer; my friend's a pro writer and is exactly the same.

Polly, I'm reading a book called Wild Mind right now... after I read it I hope to be motivated enough to get this book done. And you can be one of the ones getting a copy straight from me.

Just read that viagra has successfully treated cardiomyopathy in mice. It's a big cause of death in muscular dystrophy, so this is groundbreaking stuff!

Woah, that sounds major Kylie.
And how are you today? did you enjoy your birthday yesterday? biggrin.gif
xMakeMeFeelItx
Cardiomyopathy is basically where the heart swells and can't pump blood efectively [I swear they want us all to be cardiologists].

I've got a sore head, monkey mind is doing my nut in and I cannot get into first thoughts or wild mind. Still, I'm doing good. Had a great day yesterday, and it's dad's birthday today. I'm here in my nightie, pair of jammie bottoms with tea, music and my DC drew-on tattoo reinstated to where DC had his setlist written on his hand =]

My auntie Angela arrives tomorrow from Chester, and the rest of the clan arrive from Bedfordshire on Friday. Party is on Friday night. Fun much?

I thought it would have something to do with the heart. How long do you think it would take for them to be able to do human trials?

And sounds much the same as me smile.gif I'm sitting here in my pj's with a cuppa nice tea lol
Happy Birthday to your Dad too.... bet you're party is going to be mint! biggrin.gif

Sarah- I didn't watch any films...Lol. I slept and watch all AI7, and then about 10 interviews, still haven't seen the pre-NBA interview though, the link didn't work for me! sad.gif

Oh well, suppose it'll end up on Youtube eventually!
letticea
I havn't seen the NBA interview either. Everyone is saying he looked really nervous, but from the still's he looks fine!
xMakeMeFeelItx
Goodness... first thing they'll need to do is plan stage 1 trials. Then there's stage 2, and then double-blind studies. Stage one, if passed by authorities, will need a lot of planning and will be very brief. Stage two is longer, and double-blinds are longer again. I have Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which is related to Muscular Dystrophy. Basically, the biggest and most essential proteins in the body [which we need for a characteristic such as eye colour] are dystrophin and SMN1 and SMN2 [survival motor neuron]. I've got a bad SM1, and SMN2 is difficent in everybody. It compensates somewhat, but not enough. They're looking into ways of fixing SMN2 by gene therapy - give that another 7 years, IF the funds are there. Dystrophin is a "snake-like" protein with a globular head and fibrous tail. It maintains all the muscles, whereas SMN maintains nerves. Without dystrophin, the Muscular Dystrophy patients gradually lose their muscles. What I have doesn't get worse at such a high rate.

Now, don't get me wrong here... I've lost people to Cancer. But Cancer is so acceptable, yet what I have has a worse survival rate.
SMA Type 1 - two years max, if you're caught early and you're the type 2 end of the scale, you could reach early teens. There's one lady, who I presume to be a severe type two although diagnosed as type 1, who has had two children. She has a trachea in, and looks a hell of a lot worse than I do. She's early 30s. Like I said - type 2 is what I think she is. Think Hawkins when you think of her, very little movement at all.

SMA Type 2 - Many lose the ability to sit up by mid-teens. I have this one, and I'm lucky in that I'm still sitting up. I have lost a lot of power in my arms though. Can live into adulthood, but will have some moderate complications. Never sit unaided, and never stand unaided. Physiotherapy becomes advantageous. Diagnosed around 18 months of age.

SMA Type 3 - A lot stronger. Some may walk unaided in the early stages. Usually diagnosed aged 3 upwards. Do pretty well, regardless of infection.

A lot of SMA patients lose, or partially lose, the ability to swallow. I've partially lost mine. Voices and lung capacity can be low, in my case very low. My speech can slur often. SMA patients are very suseptible to infection, particularly pnemonia. Although continent, the bowels often don't work. In my case, it takes an enema and about 10mls of laxabearal every day. SMA patients require major surgery to correct a curvature of the spine; doctors did mine, but warned me and my parents that IF I made it through, I would most likely be on a life support machine permanently. I ended up on one when I sleep, but that's nothing that wasn't going on before my surgery.

I understand Cancer is life-threatening. I've lost my aunt to it, am losing a cousin, my other aunt has it, and my grampa may well have died of it too. I just don't understand people paying attention to that so much, but not other diseases that cause just as much harm on an equally as wide scale; something that can't be treated, never mind cured.

Kylie xx
*TheLastRockette*
I totally agree Kylie. It shows a lot about you that you can be this open about it.

I lost my Uncle two months ago to cancer, and I have suffered with it as well, but thankfully have been in remission for four years now.

But I do understand that other illnesses need to be address as much if not more than cancer. It frustrates me that you watch the news and hear politicians going on about the war in Iraq, you turn on TV and it's all celeb gossip, and you look at magazines and it's all whose dating who. Nothing about the important things in life!

Oh apprentice is on
letticea
Kylie you seem like such a strong person. There is so much going on in your life and you could give up, but you fight on. I think that this is the mark of a truly great individual. I don't know if I would be as strong as you.

Okay I'm frustrated now. My hearts thumping and my fasiculations have gone through the roof [my hands are shaking real bad]. Excuse any bad typing caused by the above.

Polly... My auntie Mary got her first round of chemo just after my sister died in January 1997 ['Teenie had SMA Type 2 too...]. She went into remission, but was told there was some cancer cells in her lymph node. Four years ago, she was rediagnosed. Too late to do anything. She fought, long and hard; she refused to give up. Family, faith and partying was her best friend. She came to my 15th birthday party, just after she was rediagnosed. I'll never forget her rearranging her chemo to come, or the way that as soon as she arrived the room lit up. She had the biggest smile on her face, and yet she was going through a lot worse than I was. She came right up, gave me a huge hug and a kiss and wshed me happy birthday. She never missed my birthday...never. She was Mum's rock when Martina died, her and auntie Nancy who died of MS. And now I stop before any more tears fall. I don't think I've got over the fact she's gone yet.

I'm not strong. I do what I've got too, every single day of my life. I've survived when the doctors gave no hope, I've survived fear and a death bed. I've survived. That's all I do sometimes; survive. But if through my survival, somebody can live; it's worth it.

Here's a video of some with SMA [you think some are on oxygen, they're actually on a life support machine]:

It's so tough to know what to say about something you have no knowledge (or little knowledge) of.
I think your doing great Kylie, honestly. I have friends with different 'physical barriers' who just get on with it, because we only get one life, so we may as well live it.

I don't honestly know what to say! I guess part of life is the good with the bad, and some times the balance goes off..Nothing we can do about it!

Find small pleasures and joy right? Family, friends, music...etc.

This conversation is getting a little too serious for my liking (i'm the original prankstar)

Hi guys and welcome US Sarah!

I haven't been posting tonight as brain frazzled and won't make much sense - but its been good to 'observe' the chat!

Kylie - you are incredibly strong and brave - at 18 you have been through so much and I think you're inspirational. I almost died of meningitis when I was 19, and am now going through a nasty divorce - but reading your post you have helped put things into perspective for me so thank you. Oh, and I want a copy of your book

Polly - thanks for the daily dose of DC - always a pleasure to view!
