Does anyone know if FOR SURE if David Cook doesn't win he'll still get signed to another label? Like a deal in the works or something. I know Archuleta might have one and last year Blake Lewis did.

Usually both the top 2 are signed with 19 entertainment for at least a 1 year contract, then I think it's up the the record label as to whether or not they want to continue the relationship (depending on how sales go). It looks like in the past it hasn't usually worked out for the 2nd place person...sometimes for the winner as well...because other than Carrie and Kelly who of the winners has really made a big splash? You don't need to win to be successful, look at Daughtry, Kellie Pickler and my gosh, even Bucky Covington.
I think that David is one of the most amazing contestants that has ever been on the show and know that no matter what he will sell millions of records!

Regardless of who actually wins, I predict David will outsale Archie in every aspect!!

Well, Jordin Sparks is doing really well for herself too I think.
But winning AI doesn't determine success (Taylor Hicks who?)
I don't know about record deals though..guess we'll have to wait and see what happens, although I'm predicting that DC will make a record and that it will go straight to the top! Just a prediction though..haha.

I could be wrong, but I believe I read somewhere that he would get a record deal. I agree...he will outsell Archie, and I can not wait until his CD comes out!!!

I'm sure those music execs are rubbing their hands together in anticipation when they pit the two Davids CDs against each other. Oh, the money they hope to make off those two.

DC is different from most other idols in that he seems to know who he is as an artist. That's what the stylists and voice coaches have been saying all along...he's easy to work with because he knows what he wants. For this reason, I believe that he will have much creative freedom with any record deal he gets from this. There are some Idols that, even after winning, still need work. DC just needed a bit of hair and makeup advice

Also, he's already got that sucessful solo album, Analog Heart, sitting there waiting to be re-released. He's going to do great!

He will more than likely be signed to RCA right along with David A. Actually, it would be in his best interest to not win the title. The winner is signed to a contract with 19E in which they practically own you! Better to come in 2nd and have a choice in your career.
But, to answer your question, the runner up is always offered a record deal with RCA. They don't have to take it and are usually bombarded with deals as soon as the show is over. So, never fear, we won't be hearing the last of David regardless of what the results are!

He also selected the song that he and Archie will be singing tonight. I don't want to spoil, but Nigel confirmed this. They were going to sing a different tune, but DC suggested this one and they went with it.
How cool is our David?

I do think both will be signed...the record will just be released sooner for the winner. If I recall, Carrie's CD came out in October the year she won.
I do very much hope the producers allow Cookie to have creative liberties with his new CD. Analog Heart blows me away.
The voice. The guitar. The lyrics. WOW!!!! I just want more of that!

Actually, things went a little different for the winner and runner up last year as far as record labels. Jordin passed on Arista and went with Jive. Blake ended up being signed by Clive with Arista. What was stated above is how it normally happens, but last year was an exception to the rule.

If you look at people like Daughtry they are doing very well.
If david hadn't won tonight, he would be just as successful. He would be writing his own material unlike now since he won american idol and they usually revoke-so to speak- that priviledge, unless you're extremely lucky.
Regardless, david will do well! and do many great things
im sooo excited to see what the future has in store!

imo, instead of making a ton loads of words to sugarcoat my opinion on this matter, all i want to say would pretty much answer the question of the OP:
ABSOLUTELY!!
