She's one of us and GETS it. Great blog.
Here are the lyrics to the song, just the verse DC sang. Stunning song choice.
Has our conscience shown?
Has the sweet breeze blown?
Has all the kindness gone?
Hope still lingers on.
I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don't know why.
Are we listening
To hymns of offering?
Have we eyes to see
That love is gathering?
All the words that I've been reading
Have now started the act of bleeding
Into one.
So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below.
And I laugh at myself
As the tears roll down.
'Cause it's the world I know.
It's the world I know.

I haven't read the lyrics before. You can hear them so well in the song but seeing them in black and white just emphasises what a phenomenal song and performance that was!

I will say it a million times...I am so grateful that David took a risk and chose The World I Know. Regardless of the outcome, he stayed true to himself and gave us a very moving new performance.

I agree... I have also said it before in other threads... this was one of the most emotional, moving performances he has done on that show. I can't stop listening to it...

I really love that David took that risk.
On Idol Extra awhile back they had the idols choose their favorite performance by another contestants. David chose Brooke's Let It Be because she wasn't doing it for the crowd, she was doing it for herself. I feel like thats what Cookie was doing with The World I Know. It was his last performance and he did it right

That was beautifully said & spot on accurate. I want him to win so bad, but last nite he showed us that if he doesn't he's still the better artist.

if im being honest.
and please put your guns away and do not shoot me for what im about to say.
I LOVE OUR DAVID COOK.
I truly do.
BUT, I don't want him to win.
wait, listen... for the simple fact that, I would rather hear DAVID COOK music, that DAVID COOK wrote himself, not something a fabricated team puts together for him. Like AI does all the winners. THEY DO...
AI keeps them under their thumb for years, and when the artist doesnt act like they want them to anymore, they pretty much stop promoting them. Look at Kelly Clarkson, she wanted to make a sad album, because she was sad, and i think it's superb... but clive davis hated it. So he didnt promote it.
I dont want that happening to DC...
Analog Heart was and is amazing, without the help of AI... it's all David Cook.
The lyrics are almost as if they are poetry. I could drown in them.
David is going to be so successful, he doesnt NEED to win.
With Archie, it's going to be harder for him, because if he's played on a radio, people who dont know him won't accept him, they dont know his story, or that he's a good guy.
where as COOK... could be played and people who dont know him, are going to love it. No matter where he came from.
I dont know if i made sense to you guys.
I hope you don't hate me for seeing it that way.

amazing article! thanks for sharing, i feel like i knew everything she wrote. that's my exact feelings fr his hair, the outfit, the tie, the facial expressions and everything, David took us severals steps backward in his life, the point where it all started, he reminded us that he stayed grounded and that he 'didn't lose the David Cook that we first saw and fell in love with - and the article put all of that into words.
amazing! i watched the video again and it was moving, i thought i was done crying last night, well i thought wrong, and you guys are all spot on - at the end of the day he is the REAL winner. and I am so proud of him *wells up* aww.. im such a crybaby!

I totally see your point! I really do.
However David has his age on his side. The first Idol we had over here was 25 when he won and he did the sort of album the producers wanted him to but managed to co write or fully write the songs, he openly said not long after the show how he didn't like his winning song, he said 'it wasnt him'. His second album under the same lot was his chosen producers, his chosen writers, everything was his choice and you could tell he wanted creative control and he had the balls to fight for it. You could see it right from the beginning and I see the same in David, I think he can win and have the best of both worlds, Will Young has shown it can be done!
Editing to say his third album was even more off his own back, it was a departure the record company didn't want him to make, he fought against them about what singles were released and won and he does the tours he wants to do when he wants to do them. His fourth album is coming out over the next couple of months, same record company, management, everything since he won Pop Idol and it looks like it will be his best. They're musical styles are so different but I see sooo many similarities with him and David.

That was beautifully written. I feel that song showed us how beautiful his soul really is. David has inspired me so very much. He has shown me to stay true to myself and my art, to never give up, and to do what is right for me at all costs. For that, I will always be grateful.

well , i dont doubt at all that david cook would fight for something he believed in, i just feel like... the winnoers aren't given as much freedom to do what they desire.
i just dont want it taken from him is all, he's way too talented.

You are allowed to have your opinion, and I'm glad you felt safe to share it.
About the winning thing,
David himself wants to win, so really, it's not about what we want for him. Secondly, Nigel, the producer just stated this morning on Ryan's radio show that David and David were going to sing one song, it wasn't working out and our David suggested another and they all went with it.
David has proven all along he has the strength of character to make the music he wants. He has displayed more musical versatility on that stage week after week then any other. That won't change. The producers trust DC!
Finally, look at his Collective Soul choice.......The World I Know. This was not the safe route, but DC choose it anyway to again, show to us, his fans, his heart and where he wants to go as a musician. It was for his fans an epic moment to close out his time on AI.
