when interviewed on my fox news station and asked if she thought simon was right about it being a DA knockout... Paula very quickly rebutted that she indeed did not think it was at all a knock out and that it was "too close to tell"

she admitted that DA was at his best tonight... but she also praised DC for being the first to ever sing three new songs in the finale.

I knew I always liked Paula best (laugh.gif Did I really just type that????? laugh.gif )

Cook's voice was strained but he didn't let that affect his performances at all. I guess that's prolly why the 3 songs turned out so well, I can't imagine if it were rock numbers all the way, he might just lost his voice by the 3rd song.

I am not sure where I should post this, in the "is David Cook the next American Idol thread" or here so I chose here. Oh and by the way this is a long winded one...

I don’t know exactly what to say or how to say it, but I feel like I need to share some of the thoughts swimming around in my head. I am feeling such a rush of emotions as I “revisit” the show I watched last night. I am scared, angry, nervous, overwhelmed but most of all PROUD. I just hope that this remains, as Simon said way back in the beginning a talent competition. “if this continues to be a show based on talent, which it should, you could win this thing.” I know I didn’t get it exactly right, but last night as I was watching and then voting that line kept running through my head. I agree that Archie had a fabulous first song, I can say I was impressed BUT it was a ballad. He really doesn't stand out in anyway to me other than his ability to sing, his stage presence (if you can call it that) frankly bores me to tears. I think Archie sang three songs that fit his type of vocal ability, meaning they were all slow and they all sounded the same (once again) with different lyrics. Cook however showed once again that he is well-rounded, versatile and overly talented and his 2nd song clearly blew Archie’s out of the Nokia theater. He takes risks and he did show all sides of his abilities and that is what makes him THE BEST! I think that yeah maybe Cook wasn’t at the top of his game last night but come on, look at his life, what he is going through in his personal life not to mention all the stress and being so tired (you can see it all over him) from the daily life of AI. I just really hope that the votes prove this season was about the “whole season” not just last night. Cook clearly was the better performer all season, bringing to the table his own style and doing so many different types of songs and frankly doing them all amazingly. Archie has talent and he has a really nice voice, I won’t discount that, but he is not as marketable and all of his performances are just a repeat of the last song he sang which makes it hard for me to “like him” because I like to mix it up. I know Cook will be very happy taking the silver, but I will be so sad because I want this so badly for him. It’s funny how last night became a new type of love affair with David Cook for me and I can’t explain it, but I think my husband thought he was going to have to call the hospital already when he was finishing his 3rd song and I just started crying almost hysterically. I was just so overwhelmed that it’s almost over and he is so damn close and I want this dream for him. I have many other thoughts that right now I can’t put into words, maybe later after I have more time to sort things out I can add something. I am going crazy thinking about what might happen tonight. I can’t believe I have gotten this emotional because of a TV show, I have never been so invested in a TV show or a perfect stranger and I can honestly say I don’t think I will watch AI again (after this being my first season watching) I can’t take the stress and I don’t like the “popularity” contest that it is. I have seen far too many people get kicked off that shouldn’t have been and from past show information I know far too many have gone on that shouldn’t. I am just so happy that Cook made it to the finale where he truly deserved to be. Ok I am done….can’t go on about it anymore right now. Thanks to all of you for being such great fans and for listening to me on this vent/rationalization thing I am doing. In ending this all I have to say is regardless of what happens tonight David Cook IS MY American Idol and I am so very very proud I was a part of this dream for him. I am so disappointed in Simon and so angry about it, normally Simon and I are pretty much in agreement and he was totally off last night. DAMN YOU SIMON!

Well I'm a little late but I was really depressed last night... Not because of DC but because of the judges... I even had a hard time to sleep...

I think DC did an AMAZING job and I just didn't liked how the juges were all over Archie... I felt so bad and sad for DC...

Cook really did 3 great performances, he has everything, the "rock thing", the more "sentimental thing", the voice, the presence on stage, he definitly deserves to win!

There is a new poll on the DialIdol Homepage: "Do you believe DialIdol's prediction that David Cook is going to win American Idol?"

Check it out, it' on the right hand side of the page: http://www.dialidol.com

So far, Yes 51%, No 49%, with 14,256 votes cast.

I finally caught the entire show. Since I didn't wanna get upset or ruin my TV set by throwing something at it, I muted the sound when it was time for judges' comments. okay here goes... don't know if i'd get hated for this or if someone actually feels the same way...

DC seemed a little out of it... like he was having an out of body experience. His eyes weren't... doing it for me? Or something like that. I think his Top 3 performances were better than his performance tonight. *waits for the boos to stop* Don't get me wrong, his worst day is better than MOST people's best days. Just seemed a little off tonight...

Archie on the other hand, did better than last week, which isn't really much to say since last week, he was almost like a disaster. Tonight, his voice was smooth but it seemed forced, somehow, almost nasally at times. I couldn't stand it. I know he does the ballads well and I don't criticize him for sticking to what he does best but... once again it bored me to tears. I had to change channels.

So my overall assessment is.. it was kind of a tie. No one knocked out anyone. It will boil down to who we voted for, who we believed in more.

And all my votes went to Cook. Because i strongly believe that for someone like him, with his talent, his heart, his musicality, for someone like that to actually lose? Well, it just makes me think that American Idol, as a show that prides itself in finding future music superstars, has failed not only in their mission to do what they said they would, but they have also failed each person who dreamed of one day being able to sing in front of thousands of people.

If David Cook loses this tomorrow, you will hear a million dreams shattered. Including mine. And maybe yours.

Kinda agreeing with you on that.

I somehow look for those side smiles or smirks in his performances. Usually, if they are present, then it means he is actually quite ok. Like the innocent song, something was not rite.. can see it in his eyes..

But, still good performances by Cook.

something was definitely off. he could have done better, i think. but yeah as i said, a half-a** performance for him is better than most people's full-a** performance and i'm talking about people who are actually considered "stars".

Okay, here's a sum up of tonight's performance show:

Cookie may sound a wee bit strained, but that didn't stop him from giving it his all. He did a real good job with all 3 songs. Right now, the one song I hope I can get my hands on is his coronation song Dream Big, cos it's a coronation song like no other - edgy yet inspirational.

Archie, on the other hand, also did well in his own way. But sadly, all 3 songs are ballads that prove sweeter than maple syrup. On the other hand, his coronation song (I can't remember the title - it's optional if you want to tell me what its title is) sounded like chapter 2 to This Is My Now - it didn't work for me. In fact, it sounded like any other coronation song of the past seasons.

As for the 3rd song, his rendition of Imagine, though well-sung, didn't work it for me this time round. I wasn't too blown away, in comparison to the first time I heard him sing that song. Somehow, by choosing to sing Imagine again, Archie had subjected himself to the demon called Comparison.

Performances aside, I seriously have no idea what the -toot- was Simon's agenda, by calling Archie a knock-out, cos to me, it was a draw.

Alright, enough ranting from me - somehow I wished I can be as direct as Miss Bitten.

I've you heard this on the radio ???

* Nigel said that after DC's last song, he and his mom gave each other a looooong and tender hug (more than 1 minute), during the commercial break ... He also said it was private and could not be caught on tape.

* DC said he felt DA was like his little bro and it was impossible to dislike him.

What a cutie !

Just want to say how impressed I am by everyone here at DC.org and all the posters. Whatever you thought of last night's show, you guys came out with a vengence to prove your faith and allegence in our David! We all voted like mad while we cried, laughed, vented and screamed. It was truly an honor to be part of this whole process and I think we can all be proud as can be of the efforts put forth last night. David Cook, your fans are amazing, you are amazing and I just hope you have some voice left for tonight. Hope that it's true that you are singing with Mariah Carey. WOW! Here's to you.

Hey cookielust, I've read your review. Great minds think alike! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

And true, Idol had always prided itself as a show that moulds future superstars. But so far, it had little success in achieving its aim. If DC doesn't win, its credibility is definitely out of the window and down into the drain.

No matter how it all plays out, we did our absolute best. For some reason, I'm even more angry at the show right now than I was last night and I didn't think that was possible. I'm not upset with Archie....he is just a talented kid who did a great job and that is what he was supposed to do...just the show itself. I have always been a fan of the show since Season One. At this point in time, though, I don't think they will have me as a viewer if they do a Season 8, which I assume they will do. I never thought I could feel like this. I'll have to examine my thoughts later once my blood pressure meds kick in. Right now the emotions are too out of control and in the way.

I got an email from a friend of mine last night. She told me she had just gotten through voting and that she absolutely loved David Cook. I hadn't talked to her for a few weeks, so I had no idea. It warmed my heart. She certainly does have good taste. wink.gif

No matter what, though, so many great things have happened this Season. A very talented young man has gotten the opportunity to actually make it in the music business....a business that is so difficult to break into. There are indie artists out there that are uber talented and they never get that nudge to make it big. I'm thrilled that David is getting this opportunity. Nobody is more deserving of this chance, IMO. Another great thing that has happened this season is that I have stumbled across a really awesome group of fans who reflect the wit and humor and passion of the man himself. Of course, I am talking about you all here. I feel blessed to be getting to know you and I look forward to maybe running into a few of you once the tour gets to So. California.

Yeah, I'd also like to know where this info came from?

And isn't DC supposed to be doing a duet with Mariah on ABMB tonight?
I'm actually looking forward to that, if it's true.

And if Archie sings America with ND, I just find that amusing.

And I heard JC is singing Hallelujah alone, while the rest do duets.
And Archie and DC are dueting on Hero by Chad K (Spiderman song), as suggested by DC, throwing Nigel's first pick out.

And back to last night, man, Randy was OVER excited for Archie. Even Simon was saying to calm down in his own words.

No, it's not the Green Day song. It's the winner's single...

'Time' is now for American Idol Songwriter winner
By Edna Gundersen, USA TODAY
Whether David Archuleta or David Cook prevails in Wednesday night's American Idol finale, Regie Hamm will be having the time of his life.

In the closing four minutes of the two-hour show (Fox, 8 ET/PT), the newly crowned David will sing Time of My Life, Hamm's winner in the second American Idol Songwriter contest.

Yep, it's inspirational, says the Nashville singer/songwriter, who calls Life "a midtempo anthem, no surprises. (Fans) can wave their arms and light their lighters, all that cool stuff. We've all heard those finale songs, so you know the parameters and almost by osmosis what the moment is all about."

The song was among "tens of thousands" submitted and combed through by 19 Entertainment's more than 60 Artists & Repertoire staffers, who winnowed the list to a manageable pile before Idol creator Simon Fuller and his team pruned to 20 semifinalists, says Jeff King, 19's U.S. head of digital entertainment.

The task is "daunting," he says. "Not unlike the show, you get a wide variety, from comical to genius."

More than 500,000 voters chose Time of My Life from the 20 audio clips posted online. What gave Hamm's tune the edge?

"Its feel, its groove, the message," King says. "The lyrics aren't too sappy, and it's contemporary."

In a departure from Idol custom, producers decided against using the coronation song in competition. The Davids each picked another tune from the 10 songs that received the most votes in the contest to sing Tuesday. Cook, 25, chose Dream Big by Emily Shackelton; Archuleta, 17, selected In This Moment by Ryan Gillmore. Both are on iTunes, which also will sell tonight's rendition of Life by the new Idol.

A year ago, the first song contest yielded melodramatic This Is My Now, a natural for pop singer Jordin Sparks and a handicap for beatboxer Blake Lewis, who was thrashed by the judges. That mismatch didn't trigger this year's shift, King says. The show simply wanted to offer the finalists flexibility.

At a cost of $600 and with help from friends, Hamm composed and recorded Life the week before the contest deadline.

"I tried to keep the show in mind, but it's autobiographical," he says. "It has to do with living in the now and letting the good times carry you through the bad times."

Hamm, 40, says his victory is a reversal of a career slump that began when he and his wife, Yolanda, adopted their daughter in China. Isabella, now 5, has the rare genetic disorder Angelman syndrome, which causes severe developmental delays. (They also have 19-month-old son Gabe.)

"I've been a housedad while my wife works at Starbucks, which provides insurance," Hamm says.

"When we find something (Isabella) responds to, we stick to it," he says. "The really bad singers on Idol make her laugh hysterically. We started watching because of her. When better singers come along in the top 10, Isabella loses interest, but then we're hooked."

Born in Nashville, Hamm traveled the country with his Pentecostal preacher father and played drums in the family band. He wrote his first song at age 9. Influenced by Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Don Henley, Merle Haggard, Randy Newman and the Gershwins, he switched to piano and enjoyed some success writing and recording. On Thursday, his gospel/country Starlight EP hits iTunes. He co-wrote Something About Us, which is on Clay Aiken's new CD. (Attention, conspiracy theorists: Hamm also co-wrote the ballad In the Name of God with Scott Krippayne, who co-wrote 2007's winning Idol song.)

"I've made records and rubbed shoulders with people in the music industry, but nothing like this," Hamm says of his Idol conquest. "The last five years have been the toughest of my life. This one song has turned my career and my life around. It's a shot in the arm."

But is it? The clout of the coronation song has waned since 2002 inaugural Idol Kelly Clarkson released A Moment Like This, which sold 987,000 copies in combined singles and downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Sales of 2003 runner-up Aiken's This Is the Night exceeded 1 million copies.

Numbers have drooped since then, as has Idol enthusiasm for the typically schmaltzy launches. Taylor Hicks, 2006's Idol, didn't put coronation single Do I Make You Proud, which sold 654,000 copies, on his album. A year ago, Sparks left the Idol gate with This Is My Now, the first Idol debut single that failed to reach Billboard's top 2. It has sold 263,000 downloads.

I listened to the song again, and Cookie can definitely do the song. Though, there is a lyric about a "magic rainbow" and the first time I listened to it I automatically turned it off and wrote it off as "omg-No", but if I over look that little flub in writing, he can pull it off. Here's to Cookie singing the coronation song tonight!!!!! DAVID COOK FOR THE WIN!!!!
