lakers_ferrari
Guys.. Go rewatch the moment they crowned DC as the winner.. Look particularly at Simon and his expression just read.. I'm cunning!! I made you guys vote.. I gave the KIss Of Death..
TaraChell
I didn't notice because I was too busy doing a happy dance around my living room. I taped it so I will have to go back and watch it. I did like that fact theat Simon apologized to DC for being disrespectful to him. Very classy of him (never thought I'd say that about Simon).
lakers_ferrari
I only noticed it after i rewatch it...
annie702
I am so happy that Simon apologized to David Cook...he was cruel to him last night regardless of whether he had some master plan for his win.
dreamworks
HAHAHA, Tara, happened the same to me. But I rewatched it already, and all three judges seemed to be really happy. Paula was jumping up and down. It was crazyyyyy!

I hope it works.. Watched 3.07... DAmn!! That reaction really says it all for me coz I HAVE NEVER seen him that happy..

And the goosebumps still get to me everytime ryan says DAVID COOK!!!

Man, and when David was singing. Simon's smile was a mile wide, Paula was totally in tears and even Randy, after pimping Archie so much, didn't even look wishful. They were all genuinely thrilled for him. Well, okay, Simon was thrilled for himself. Still counts! laugh.gif
fanny
I know! Simon looked soooo happy! He gave such a big applause, and the smile on his face!!! laugh.gif
PrueLu
yeah i saw that, he even gave a silent toast. im so thrilled for David. he was awesome even in his own glorious moment, calling his friends with him. even that he wasnt selfish. gotta admire the man. you guys saw an ecstatic Michael Johns hugging Dave from behind? Classic bromance. im so proud of ya, David. and congrats to Archie too. So gracious of the kid.

Hehe... Simon is really rooting for Cook. During his Jay Leno interview he said that Cook deserves to win. And he even called Archie "the other guy" (how rude!!)

Maybe he was really disappointed with Cook's performance because he was expecting a SUPER performance like his usual weeks. Maybe he also knows that if he overpraised Cook, it might turn tables around and the Archuleta Fans would double up forces. Although I still doubt Archie would win because Cook has really acquired a lot of fans over the weeks.

If Simon is cunning, Cook beats him. He started out as the underdog...then slowly build it up week after week that 8 out of 10 performances are amazing you cant say that he's the runner up. I felt like he really understood the game and how to play it.

Way to go Cookie. (Now I can sleep--- I havent slept for a week waiting for this moment)
PrueLu
yep let's go and have some winks. i was awake most of last night, nervous out of my mind. and guys, job well done. thanks for all the voting from us overseas fans. our dreams have finally come true.
BritChickUSA
Simon's "tough love" approach paid off. His comments last night certainly rallied me into staying up till 1am to vote as much as I could for Cookie. Of course he wanted our David to win all along, he knows a potential superstar when he sees and hears one!

I do feel sorry for Archie though and hope his dad isn't too harsh on him for not winning, poor kid did his best...
Pam
I couldn't sleep as well! Tossing and turning the whole night! And yes, Simon's smile was a mile wide!
PrueLu
heya fellow Singaporean Cookie!! (Pam)
Pam
Hey there!! Channel 5 has my undying love for the simulcast!
PrueLu
yep Channel 5 is my best friend only during Idol season! other than this, MediaCorp basically suck..heh heh tongue.gif
Pam
Haha, yeah. [off-topic] But they're bringing in lots of good shows now! I downloaded Pushing Daisies when it was airing in the USA, Loved it, do watch!

Can't wait to watch the rerun! I was so nervous I could barely enjoy the performances!
larisse loves david
Simon made us really vote like INFERNO for Cook last night! He was like Reverse Psychologizing us. lol.
Pam
Haha I voted without reading spoilers so I was devastated when I watched the actual show. My poor broken heart! Thank goodness I voted for 4h, else I wouldn't have forgiven myself. XD
eennah
my god !
Simon really apologized .
and when the winner's announced .
he really IS very happy !!
niken_arts
wow, now i'll really love simon... laugh.gif
btw, what thing that dc get for his winning??
Jessie Ann
Simon so wants David Cook to win... and oh... Our Cookie just did... gosh!
McDavid
I think he deliberately gave negative comments to Cook during the performance night to push us to vote our hardest even though he thought otherwise. Maybe that's the reason behind the apology---he wanted to clear everything once and for all that DC didn't suck. He never sucked.

Did you see how hard he clapped when DC won? His face was just ecstatic and it shows he's happy that DC won! He even gave a tight hug to Paula. He planned this all. He's a freakin genius. laugh.gif

We owe this to Simon! hahaha. Gotta love him!

I don't think it was "reverse psychology", but I do think Simon went into Tuesday night conscious of not pimping DC, lest fans feel complacent. He wanted people to believe that it was a contest and every vote counted. But I also think he was (like all of us!) stunned at how well Archie performed, and truly felt that David's TWIK wasn't the "knock-out punch" he had hoped for. Even DC said that he thought DA "won" the night performance-wise.

What Simon "didn't process" in the moment was that DC, rather than belting a bombastic tune (BJ/ABMB), chose to bare his artist's soul -- the part of him that loves and composes music, sees beauty in lyrics and inspires his performances -- for his final song of the competition. Simon was disrespectful to David in criticizing that choice.

Did Simon realize that when he rewatched the show, as he says? Or did he only "get it" after DC's fans rose up in anger to storm the phone lines and "damn-the-charges" text 'til our fingers bled? Think about it... for a show that was supposedly losing viewers, AI vote totals were through the roof... 25% higher than they had ever been before, handing DC an overwhelming win. You can bet Simon and the other execs wondered what hit them.

Simon is not a dumb man. He knew that both his honor and his credibility required that he apologize to DC for doubting him. Just as DC says that, as an artist, he opened himself for criticism and believed Simon was within his right to say what he did.

First Simon apologizes, then David, in his moment of glory, says he "started the season - to Simon's chagrin - as word nerd" showed me the respect those two had developed for each other.

It helped make my night.

"Chagrin" kudos to David for such a word-nerdly word! He really could be the most articulate Idol ever, maybe the most articulate celebrity alive. BOO-YAH! I just called him a "celebrity" for the first time and it feels so good!

I agree with this 100%! A great post! We'll of course never know the real reason behind Simon's horrible comments from Tues or his about face Wed, tho its fun to speculate. wink.gif Regardless of the reason, everything worked out for the best, didn't it? biggrin.gif cool.gif
getshorty
Simon was elated with DC's win. I noticed his huge reaction as well. Cool.

Simon's comments were just so over the top critical that I can't believe anything other than emotion drove them. IOW, I just can't give him credit for taking that kind of risk in the hope of masterminding an angry fan response.

I think Simon was greatly relieved that Cookie won. And yes, all's well that ends well!
BethRiot
I didn't notice cause I was crying so hard
tongue.gif
But when I rewatched it
I saw it and I was thinking
Yay Simon is happy!
biggrin.gif
kiwi
on her fox morning show, Simon's gf Terri said that Cowell told her Tuesday night "my head says Archuletta but my heart says Cook."

Simon couldn't have been happier with the results. He's such a magnificent bastard.
zoo
I think that Simon was really pleased and was upset when he watched the Tuesday night show over. I don't think they could hear that well. On his radio thing with Ryan today, he felt he had to make it right by saying what he said.

i still can't believe that our cookie WON!!!!

Even though Simon stated he didn't care who was going to win...it was very obvious that he really wanted and was glad DC won. I think if he were at home watching, Simon would have done his own little happy dance around his living room...he might have even cried! And that would have been awesome!
amor825
Simon could finally let his feelings out. After all, this was what he wanted. I don't think I've ever seen Simon that happy during the entire season. And he hugged Paula looking like he was just so grateful.

Simon learned his lesson from last year when he all but declared Melinda Doolittle the winner as early as the Top 3 only to see her booted out the next day. Simon was really rooting for DC as early as Eleanor Rigby week, remember when he said that if this remains a competition rather than a popularity contest DC could win the entire show? He has also been very vocal about DC when he guests in the TV shows, like Larry King, Ellen, and Jay Leno. He could not give DC the kiss of death at the last moment, and perhaps even DC was grateful that Simon did not praise him to high heavens because he was always thinking of Simon's kiss of death.

Now that its all over, we should actually be thankful to Simon because it was his rash comments that fired all of DC's fans to vote for him like crazy. I don' t think AI could reach that number of votes ever again. It was just too much, and that was because of Simon. So Simon, you wise old thing, thank you. You made it possible. Your favorite is the American Idol.

I know.. I watched it several times just to make sure I saw what I saw but that raw happiness is just unbelievable!! It was so obvious he was estatic!! We really saw how much both he and Paula wanted DC to win!!
Janni
I saw it and it's so great, he looks so happy that he won. biggrin.gif
caro511
It's funny seeing Simon's reaction..especially when you look back at Hollywood Week when he said NO to David as he felt he was going to be very vulnerable without his guitar.

Haha

I loved it when Paula was being interviewed and she gloated saying " I told you so " to Simon about 50 times!!
thealovesdcook
Simon really wants our DC to win. I just can't believe of his comments during the performance night. But, isn't he(Simon) adorable when he smiles? *laughs*

&&, their names COOK--COWELL really has a chemistry or something.. (or just the first letter?) *laughs still*

Really Happy DC made it! I know Simon's happy, too.
