Ya know, i just wanted to say that this is the ONLY song sung by an AI winner that makes me cry everytime I hear it. You can truly hear it in his voice when he sings it that he FEELS what he sings. I never thought at 29 years old that I would be this...emotional...over someone winning a contest, let alone American Idol. It just amazes me how humble, and "normal" he is. Its great to have someone I would not be ashamed to have my children and neices actually look up to!

Everyone in my house thought I was crazy to cry, but the song is beautiful, even more so when David sings it.

I just got in my car to go grab a quick bite for lunch on my break and it was on the radio.
I literally froze and tears formed in my eyes.
It is a beautiful song and David absolutely sounds AWESOME singing it!

I love it. But honestly, I believe it is because David sings it, and the fact that it's forever connected to his victory and the emotions around it and everything. I'm not sure I would have liked if Archie - or any other artist - had sung it.

yes it is.. somehow DC adds a special meaning to every song that he sings. and remember when he said tha he chooses the song that he connects with? and it really shows, he's really singing fr his heart. that's why a lot of people love him.
and honestly, now that he's the new AI whenever i listen to his songs i just have this good feeling and a permanent smile printed on my face. i am so proud of him, he'll definitely go a long way.

I really like Time of My Life as it is but I do have a question.
In the past two seasons of Australian Idol we have had an emphasis on singer/songwriters and co-currently have been also allowed to have instruments. When it comes to the winners song the two finalists have been allowed to change the song to suit their type of music.
I realise that it is too late for David to change it as a single (and he probably wasn't allowed) but I'm wondering whether he is allowed to change it up for the tour. I could imagine he would relish the chance to give it the DC touch if allowed.

I actually think this is a very good song. Yes it's very commercial, but DC never seems to mind delving into commercial pop and then going right back to his indie/alternative rock roots. He seems to like the song too, and I don't think he's just being "diplomatic" on his TV appearances. He said on the Slezak/Shaw Idolatry interview that he doesn't care for the magic rainbow lyric, but he says that's really the only :02 seconds of the song that he would change. I think his emotional win and then discovering this love fest with his fans once he came out of the AI bubble was overwhelming and he think he kind of buys into the theme of the song. That said, musically it's been on my brain for days now and I've come to really like it. He managed to extract as much syrup out of it as possible, and make it a heart felt, emotional ballad. And with his amazing voice it's just great to listen to. I wonder if he will remove the magic rainbow lyric and re-record some of the tracks with a well rested voice for the new album (CDs often contain a different "album version" than the single).

you know...I was wondering myself whether or not he would change it up. I don't mind the song - it's grown on me, particularly b/c DC sings it XD - but the magic rainbow line is the only one i would change in a heartbeat haha.
Anyways, it'd be fun, though, to see what he'd do with it to change it.

Okay, so I'm not the only one that this happens to.
Here I am, just driving around with David in my car, and I start tearing up! I honestly don't know where this comes from. It has never happened to me before, with any other artist. I'm just in awe.

I agree with you two. David Cook does not just sing any song that is given to him. He must have a connection, a good vibe with it first. When DC sings a song, he's like telling a story, and many times, emotional, that touches the heart. You can feel that it's just not coming from his voice, but from somewhere much deeper.
If that song were sung by a different singer, in a different scenario, in a different experience (unlike what DC had on his road to the Finale), "Time Of My Life" would not have the same impact it had to music lovers, especially DC fans, around the world. TOML has now practically become an anthem.

I love the song...I think it's really inspirational. I like the idea of realizing this is the time of your life, and make the most of it.
