I guess I'm a Cougar for Cook even though I am happily married to the same man for 30 years. He's been acting a little jealous now that David Cook has captured my attention these last few months. I can't help it. He just has IT. I predict he will blow people away with his album and concert performances. We've only seen little bits and pieces of what he can do. I can't wait to see what he has in store for us. In the mean time, I will have to be satisfied scouring the net for bits and pieces about him. This will certainly be my first stop.

Welcome to the cougars, Cookie Fann! There are a lot of us Cookie fans with husbands who are a wee bit (or more) jealous! It's definitely a balancing act! happy.gif

I'm with you. I can't wait for his album and for a whole concert of only him! Thanks goodness for the internet! Remember before the internet, VCRs, etc. Once in a while you might catch your favorite singer or group on TV, but when the show was over, that was it. No recording of it to watch over and over again! It's sure a lot more fun now!!

Re: mouthing off to Simon after All Right Now, and then never again (see this strand, my first post pg. 7 or so for beginning)
Well, I don't really think it would have been "powers that be" that would have said something to DC that would or could change his attitude. I think it's more likely to have been a friend or family member, or just watching the tape back himself, OR off-camera interaction with Simon. SOMETHING happened, I think, and it caused Simon - later - to gain personal respect for DC and vice versa. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm wondering if DC apologized to Simon (later). That would certainly explain a lot about how things went over the next several weeks.

If this topic belongs somewhere else (not in the middle of Cougar intros) I hope someone who knows how will move the whole conversation and get some more people in on it. Thanks everyone who chimed in so far. This is helping me with no DC on TV withdrawal. Ha!

My first crush was Paul McCartney. I also had the hots for Russell Crowe, then Chris Daughtry and now David Cook. I like all sides of him, from the sensitive "The World I Know" side to the Hot...hot...hot..."All Right Now" side. But he really had me at Hello. That's when I started scouring the net for anything I could find on him and counting the days until the next performance....I think I've read every article, and seen every interview, not to mention replayed the extended version of Guitar Hero dozens of times...

Also, I think Simon deserved David's sharp comeback about his lack of charisma. It was not only uncalled for but the antithesis of David Cook who is oozing hot molten lava charisma. Simon on the other hand sounded pretty effeminate when he told him "I loved it" after Hello...

I couldn't have said it better. My jaw just about hit the floor when Simon said that about him. He has more charisma than anyone I have ever met or will never meet, that I am sure of. Couldn't understand what he meant with the comment about car racing or whatever-maybe I missed something? Randy knew what he was saying when he said he was hot (although I'm sure he was talking about the performance, not the MAN)! I think it's so funny that when I look at the times some of these things are posted, they are like in the middle of the night. We all must have some serious Cook-induced sleeplessness. I have gotten no more than 5 (mostly only 3-4) hours of sleep a night since the finale. At least like you said, we had Tuesday and Wednesday to look forward to. Now all we have is this and YouTube. tongue.gif

Each of the contestants had a little interview before their song, like David with his Word Nerd, and they talked about various things. I remember MJ talked about tennis because I'm a big tennis fan, but I actually can't even remember who liked car racing.

Thanks, Jersey Girl. The discussion re: DC's initial reaction to Simon after the no charisma comment is going on over there now folks.
Was DC too Cocky with Simon?
It's interesting to see how different people are thinking about it!

Hi!

I am driving everyone I know crazy with my slight (who am I kidding, insane) obsession with David. I am always listening to his music, looking at his pictures, watching videos of him on youtube....just something constantly....I miss seeing him every Tuesday and Wednesday night. Being 39 now, I suppose you can call me a cougar. Because he definitely makes me purr. :)

P.S. Could anyone write me and tell me how you attach a picture as a signature. It seems I can only add text or insert from a url. Any help would be appreciated.

Felicity's Mom
Hi! Another cougar for David Cook checking in. I am a married mother of four grown children and I too am obsessed with David. I picked him as the next American Idol at the auditions and voted only for him the entire season. Just watched the finale again and had tears in my eyes! Such a gracious winner!!! Going to the concert on August 4th with several friends! We cannot wait. Check out People Magazine this week. It has a great interview and amazing photos of our boy!

P.S. Does anyone know how to contact the Idol Producers? We all hate the waving girls in the front. They
have to disappear next season.

Hey everyone, Grandmajoyce here (Word Nerd 2553, Cookie Cuddler Cougar 29C) I live in Jersey and work nights so I come home and read all the posts. You ladies crack me up, you sound like me!! I'm lost not seeing David every week, however, I taped the shows because of working the night shift, so I get to relive his win over again, I don't have Tvo, just a VCR and I always set it 10 min after the shows end so I didn't miss a thing.
I h ave been into only two singers since The Beatles (saw them in '65 and '66 at Shea) Chris Daughtry(didn't see him yet because I refused to give Hicks any of my money} This is the first time I am going to an Idol Tour and I can't wait!!!!!!!! I look forward to seeing all the Top 10, but my Heart belongs to David!!!

Well, I think I will go watch him win again.

Love to all my fellow Cougars,

Another cougar here. On the AI forum I was DCwhathavudun2me. I was so obsessed and spending way too much time there, I cut myself off cold turkey. It's been a couple of weeks since the finale, and I am still utterly obsessed. So, while searching for an mp3 link to the Wal-Mart shareholders performance, I find myself here, once again on a DC forum. I have burned 3 CDs of David's music to play in my car. My phone, which doubles as an MP3 player, is full of his music as well. TOML is my current ringtone. I search for DC video clips to watch online. In all of my 48 years, I have never been a groupie or star struck like this. I can relate to all of the stories in this thread.

I grew up in southeast Missouri, was pretty much a good girl, top student, editor of my high school newspaper, not exactly a total nerd, but fitting in somewhere near the peripheral of the "cool crowd". I went to college at UMC, not so much a good girl anymore, but managed to graduate with a sheepskin that would help me land a decent paying job. I have been pretty much unlucky in love - two failed marriages, no kids. I have always loved music, but alas was not blessed with much of a singing voice. I sound best in the shower or in the car when the stereo is turned up really loud. I learned how to play the piano as a kid, but can only ready music. Wish I could play by ear.

I now live in Virginia. The closest AI tour concert is in Washington DC in mid August. I was checking out ticket availability, and Ticketmaster only has the nosebleed section seats still available. On eBay, I can spend a small fortune for something closer - considering doing it. But I don't really have anyone to go with me. I usually try to avoid DC traffic at all costs - and now I'm actually thinking about going there on purpose.

I could go on forever, but it's after 2:00 in the morning and I should go to bed.

Hello, Ladies!

This is great. I can SO identify with you! I voted for DC for the entire four hours, till I couldn't vote anymore. He really deserved the win.

Some young people on other boards made fun of Taylor Hicks' cougar fans. I hope that doesn't happen here. It doesn't matter if you are 5 or 105. Music brings us all together.

Cheers to my fellow cougars!

Welcome, Kathy! As far as I can tell everyone's getting along really well on this board, no matter what age! I've read posts from people from 14 to 66, and there might be some outside that age range that I'm not aware of.

I posted a short intro late last night. Here is my more detailed intro, aka "Confessions of a Cougar":

I am 48 years YOUNG, single for the past 10 years, and fairly content with my life. My only kids are my six dogs. Life was going along as usual until a couple of months ago.

I stumbled across David Cook, totally by accident. It all started when I decided to get a new TV. Circuit City had a great deal on a Panasonic 42-inch Plasma that I could not resist. Of course, with a new hi-def TV, I needed to upgrade my DirecTV service to receive the HD programming, which meant I needed to have a new dish installed. When that happened I was able to receive my local network channels (including FOX) via my satellite service too, although the locals aren’t in HD – yet. Before, I only received local network channels via antenna, and rarely could I get the FOX channel. Curious to see what I had been missing on the networks, I tuned into American Idol one evening. That was my first glimpse of David Cook. I immediately had to go online and find the video clips of all of his previous performances. I was hooked.

The next few weeks I made sure I was home and settled in front of the plasma every Tuesday and Wednesday night. I have never been much of a reality show fanatic and had never had the inclination to phone in my vote for anything. Even while I watched Idol religiously the last few weeks of this season, I never voted… until it was the final two. There was so much hype, and especially after Simon’s knockout comment, I just had to vote. With my cell and landline, for four hours straight I voted like there was no tomorrow casting somewhere around 1500 votes for the rocker. Dialidol was predicting a DC win, but would it make the correct prediction yet another year? AOL had Archie in the lead. I got online and checked out the chatter on the AI forums. People had voted like crazy. It didn’t surprise me at all when Ryan announced on Wednesday night that over 97 million votes were cast. But when he said that the winner won by over 12 million votes, I began thinking that if 7999 other cougars voted like I did, WE were the ones who pulled it out for DC. (*pats self on back*)

Cougar – interesting term. Before all of this, a cougar to me was a big cat or Lincoln-Mercury’s idea of a muscle car in the 70’s. Now I find out that I may just be one too, and that apparently there are many of us. Also before Idol, I didn’t know what a faux-hawk or soul patch were either. Boy, has my vocabulary expanded.

I find myself in very unfamiliar territory, being a “Cougar 4 Cook”. I have never been this much of a fan of anyone – rock/pop star, actor, athlete, no one. I find it hard to concentrate on much of anything these days due to my daydreaming of David Cook and my obsession to search for anything about him online. I downloaded his music from iTunes, and I don’t even own an iPod! So then I purchased some protected music converter software to make mp3s out of the iPod tunes. I searched online for pre-Idol music from David. The memory card in my cell phone (which also acts as my mp3 player) is filled with DC performances from Idol, as well as his Axium and Analog Heart recordings. I’ve burned three CDs of his music to play in the car. I listen to him all of the time. I’ve made my own David Cook T-shirts. I have even set up a Google Alert for any news on David Cook… I can’t miss a thing! I’ve wept, I’ve laughed, and I’ve been completely moved by the talent and sincerity of this up and coming rock star. I wonder if my life will ever return to “normal”. Or will I always carry around inside of me this secret love affair with a man 23 years my junior who doesn’t even know of my existence? All I know is that this experience has reminded me of two things: age is merely a state of mind, and rock is ageless.

Depends on who you ask, some say 35, others say 40. So if you are 35 to 39 you can choose to classify yourself as a cougar, or a cubgar (defined as 18 to 39 on this forum.)

I feel as if I've found a new sister-hood; how just incredibly wonderful (notice the Word Nerd correct use of a semi-colan wink.gif ) I've been tearing up just reading these posts. I definately belong here - - graduated HS '83, choir/theater in high school; music major (voice & piano) and English in college - Magna-Cum and top English major; sing professionally - mostly classical/sacred and do musical theater. Just finished playing the lead in Gershwin's "Crazy for You". And any and all self-confidence comes from singing and performing. So there - we're twins!!

David Cook has re-awoken that wonderful feeling in college of following a band. My roommate and I were "PWE-ettes" and were also best friends with all 5 members . . . who were adorable in a wonderfully sweet, quirky way, and were all University Scholars, and loved to play U2, Van Morrison, American Pie, Little Feat, you get the idea. David is the re-incarnation of our band . . . he's exactly what we loved about them. He's our Fountain of Youth - every photo I see, video I watch, song I hear (I have my Cook CD playing at work right now) - produces an un-stoppable smile on my face and a quickening of my heart. Don't think I'll ever be in a funk again!! Nothing will ever bother me as much as long as I can get a Cook fix somehow. What an awesome gift he has given us. He said once "get the feeling something else is at work here - a different plan in mind" and I entirely agree - - - dare I say destiny. The world has needed him, and here he is at last. The most human of beings perhaps ever to become a "celebrity". Along for the ride - take us away, David. We love you and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

SO - who wants to begin organizing the Cook-Cougars summer get together?? Think, like the Aiken-Cougars, we could manage enough influence for a Cook appearance? Travis, can you help? wink.gif We promise to behave.

Newbie here. Sadly, I've qualified as a Cougar for several years now. (What I wouldn't give to be 25, beautiful and residing in L.A. right now!) But as others have mentioned here and elsewhere, David Cook has unleashed my squeeeeing inner teenager, which hadn't seen the light of day for...well, decades! I had, prior to DC's appearance on AI, held nothing but total disdain for the show. Then I heard him the week he did Eleanor Rigby and that was it. I couldn't get enough. Now I've finally registered here after lurking for weeks because even though the show is over for this season, the most accomplished artist and my favorite contestant won and now I want to follow his burgeoning career.

Even though I tend to think the term "cougar" is a little reductive, I'll gladly wear the Cougar for Cook mantle with the rest of you! biggrin.gif

Well, I’ve got tears in my eyes from laughing so hard! I, too, am utterly mystified by this thing. I mean really, WTF?? I’ve never had such a crush on a celebrity, not even as a teenager. I have watched Gladiator about a hundred times, Russel Crowe in a skirt and all that, but that's NOTHING compared to this nonsense. WHAT is going on here???? I am a 41 year old, married, overly educated ( smile.gif ) woman with a six year old son, for cripes sake. I shouldn’t be swooning like a teenager over a man technically young enough to be my son.

I didn’t even really know who David Cook was until April. All I knew was that there was “some guy on American Idol who was really good”, and this was according to my husband who came up to where I was reading in bed to tell me about this American Idol contestant who did something great with “Billie Jean”. At the time I thought, “Uh Hunh, JUST what I want to see, some guy redoing an old Michael Jackson song, YAWN!!”

Anyway, my husband had been watching it because he really liked Cookie (ironic, hunh?), so I sat down to watch Mariah Carey night. Then David sang “Always Be My Baby”. Uh oh!! Whooaaaaaa!!! Hey now, who’s THAT??? I mean DAYUM!!!

And so I had to go to YouTube to do some catch-up, don’t ya know. And that did me in. I was hopelessly lost after watching “All Right Now”; my heart actually fluttered when he got that crooked smile on his face. I honestly don’t know how any straight female can watch that video and not end up being reduced to a bundle of raging hormones. Good Gawd Allmighty, that is one of the sexiest things I have EVER seen.

So I now act like an addict! Sneaking around to look for pics on line, going to YouTube late at night for all of the latest videos; downloading everything available for my iPod – you guys know the drill. And, finally, here I am for the first time in my life on a fansite ohmy.gif !! What’s happened to me???? I can stop, I really can . . . maybe I’ll wean myself slowly . . . maybe I’ll start tomorrow . . . yes, that’s it, I’ll start tomorrow . . . . because today I need to download that People magazine picture and figure out a way to make it into a screensaver that will sense my husband’s approach and turn itself into a pic of cute bunnies!

You guys understand, right? You have seen that photo?? The one on the couch?????

God, I need help laugh.gif !

You wanna know how bad it is? Earlier I was going through the pictures forum and it was time for dinner; so I stuck a pizza in the toaster oven for my son and ran back to the computer (ya know, as if the pics were going to disappear or something!). The bell rang, and I took the pizza out, plopped it on a plate on the kitchen counter and left it sitting there, then ran back to the laptop. About 20 minutes later he asked me where his dinner was. I simply forgot to feed my child!!!! Whoopsie!

Oh, and I am very familiar with the stealth change of window maneuver. Although, I don't think he's fooled. When David was on Regis & Kelly the other morning, hubby heard the announcement and said, "Well, guess that means you won't be doing anything 'til 10:00." It really is a bit embarassing laugh.gif !

I'm just an old, fat, rock-loving cougar myself who went nuts over David's voice and stage presence and has weird fantasies over his physical personage. I'm in a yahoo group for David, but, some of those ladies have become what I'm calling "Cookie Cutters", so I think I'll stay out of there for a while. I'm tired of defending someone who should need no defense. Can I depend on you guys not to bash? Cause it hurts my heart when someone says something bad about him. sad.gif I lurve him.

No bashing of The David here!!!! There's enough of that going on out in the world without his fans doing it.

Hi Judy,
I don't know if you're in the same yahoo group I was in (notice the past tense!) but your term of Cookie Cutters is so right-on! It really applied to a few (unfortunately a LOUD few) in the group I was in, and I couldn't stand it anymore so I left. Believe me, this is a super friendly, bash-free place! You'll love it and you'll love your fellow cougars!

I'm curious . . . why would people who are on a David Cook fan board bash him? And what could they possibly be bashing? That sounds strange to me; unless it was mostly teenagers; they're a fickle lot!
shazzy2008
hey Ladies,

Yes we all love David here. What's not to like?????
sillyme
Ugh!! Nevermind, I found it! What a nitpicking bunch of beeches! Also, very self-important I might add. It seems that they take everything that comes out of his mouth as if it were personally directed at them. Wow! I only had to read half a page of posts to get disgusted. I mean, really, for God's sake, just because you voted for him doesn't mean you're personally involved in his life!!! Wow, the gall!

Yes, this place is muuucchhh better! It's pretty much "happy, happy, joy, joy . . . where's the next pic of his happy trail laugh.gif ??!!

So here ya go!

You got it! I think alot of people here share my philosophy that we each change the world just a little bit by the way we carry ourselves. Multiply that by thousands of cookies...we go around beaming in our David-induced euphoria and spread joy! tongue.gif
queen of pop culture
Sillyme, you're killing me here!! laugh.gif You're too funny...and a fellow Russell Crowe fan to boot (I think...you mentioned it earlier). In fact, the last time I got this level of unhinged was when I dragged a couple friends with me to Chicago to see Crowe's band play back in 2000. They said they'd never seen me smile so much in all the years they'd known me.

If only they could see me NOW!

And boy, am I glad I have no husband/kids from whom I have to hide the 'puter screen. I'm free to ogle...er, I mean, gaze at DC's loveliness at my leisure. Thanks for the visual, Silly!
ronni
thank you Sillyme for the pic OMG it is sooooooo yes yes yes tongue.gif

I have one daughter and she thinks I have lost my mind, she could be right but I don't care. I have no hubby but I have a BF and he said I could call him David "once" while we were making love and he would let me get away with it but only one!! Sweet guy.
but I am sitting here sub-consiencely waiting for Leno tonight so I can see him again. I have an hour and a half then I will be looking at him again.
Other than him being so incredabilty HOT I don't know what this is for sure. this is not me I simply don't do this...I didn't get this way with Brad Pitt or Johnny Deap I am compleatly consumed by this guy.....
I like him with out the beard but with the beard he is wayyyyyy hotter I think...I would do him in a minute and would not feel anything but proud of myself he is so sexy

Oh, yes! Gotta love Russell in his gladiator outfit!! And pretty much anything else he does for that matter! Great actor; but, yeesh, Gladiator - drool producing!!!

However, even dear Russell can't compete with David!! I am still baffled at what it is, exactly, that's got me going. Seriously, I could just eat this guy up! I mean, LOOK!! This one's been photoshopped a bit, but I can't get a hold of the original. Anyway, my GAWD!!

OK! Today I will not sit at the computer all day long watching videos and looking at pictures!!! NO, no, no!!!! I will take my azz outside for a long walk, work in the garden, get some sun on this pasty skin that I've developed from being huddled over the computer, clean this pigstye of a house that I've completely ignored for 3 days, actually cook a good dinner and get to bed early!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Besides, I can still take along my iPod with all of David's songs, wheeeeee.

I think I can do it, I really do. I'm with all of you; I've never been one to go gaga like this!! It has taken over my life! I coud just listen to this guy sing and stare at him 24/7!!! Gggaaaahhhhhh!! I'm old enough to know better. WTH am I thinking? Oh, I know, I'm not thinking . . . I am being led around by friggin' hormones.

Okiedoke - off I go . . . except . . . just one more look-see at that Sexy Back vid!!!! Got to start the day off right, hunh laugh.gif ?????
ronni
Ok when do you know when you need to slow down??

Twice last night I dreamed about him!!!!!!!! No not once like a normal person but I woke up and went to pee and then went back to sleep and I did it again.....then woke up with with Billy Jean on my mind.

I am way overboard with this, I watched DC last night on Leno and he was awesome as always.Gotta admit it did bother me a bit when the 11yr old child talked about how hot he was unsure.gif

Today I will try to get some other things done but I don't know how that will work I might have to check in for a fix.

Oh yea, the dreams were great...I was young and hot and we know he was tongue.gif

Good luck! I know I'll be able to accomplish this but only because I have two appointments I have to keep! That said, I couldn't sleep in the wee hours of this morning and got up super early. Possibly insomnia but more likely it's because I went to bed early and just HAD to get up and watch the Tonight show that I'd Tivo'd! I should have driven to Burbank/NBC to try to be in the crowd that saw him perform! Not sure how I would have explained that to hubby tho'. unsure.gif tongue.gif

They said he tempted us with his sex face and lied about being single so we would vote for him, then the day after voting, staged a "fake" asking Kim out thing when they'd probably BEEN together all along. And something he said about wanting his fans to lay off the sex and KC thing and "Just buy his CD". They twist his words around because they're jealous of KC. Yeah, me too, but who wouldn't be? So, we won't bash David cause he's just naturally sexy, will we? Nooooo. The boy can't help it! lol tongue.gif There are some really good people in that group, though who support and love David. You know the thing about a few bad apples! lol
