Sure you can, Stacey is still giving out numbers! She actually was standing in line all night waiting to see David on the Today show today!!! LOL. Just post on the board and in a few days a number will appear next to your sign on for the AI site!
Jenny-May
Who is Stacy and how can I get a word nerd number if I can't access the AI site? I am deployed in Africa and can't get a proxy to actually take me to the AI site. I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Thanks in advance!

Hey cooksgirl, welcome to the Cougars! I have to tell you personally that I am doing exactly ALL the same things you're doing...taping all his performances posting on the boards, downloading and listening to him every moment (ok, so I added that last thing), and I voted for him til my fingers became numb! He has always been my favorite, too....and BEST of all, he ALSO makes me feel like a teenager again!!!! I act like a 16 yr old, and I am loving every minute of it!!!!!!! Welcome again, my friend wink.gif

What's a cougar anyways?? Isn't that someone over 40 ( at least it was on love or money) Kittens were in their 20's and cougars were in their 40's.So anyone over 40 is a cougar and anyone 30-39 is somewhere in the middle I guess

I will go to the board and ask for you. I am getting ready to leave for NY tomorrow very early so I don't know how soon I can get back to you about that Jenny-May. You can access this site but not the AI boards? gee that is weird, wonder why. Anyway I will ask and it may be a week before I get back to you, unless someone who is going to be around here can go over and ask! I will ask tonight anyway! Are you a deployed service person?

[b][color="#800080"]Hello fellow Cougars!

It is so fun to read what y'all are writing. I've been part of a Clay Aiken Cougars (only we call ourselves the Cradle Robbers Gone Wild) and everything you're saying about David, we all say about Clay. Have traveled all over the US to see him, 19 times or something crazy, and we've had 2 CRGW paloozas over long weekends. Great fun. I'd never felt like I did about him and I went overboard, staying up till 4 in the morning on message boards, etc.

Did you happen to know my Aunt - Linda LaPorte . . . she was an extreme Aiken Cougar and passed away recently. Just wanted to ask ~~

Hi All,

I was a choir/theater high school geek (late 70's/early 80's) who also excelled at academics. I was quiet and had pretty low self confidence except for when I was performing. I went on to college and majored in music and sang professionally (contemporary Christian music) for 5 years. I have been teaching vocal performance for the past 18 years with a concentration on classical music.

I feel as if I've found a new sister-hood; how just incredibly wonderful (notice the Word Nerd correct use of a semi-colan wink.gif ) I've been tearing up just reading these posts. I definately belong here - - graduated HS '83, choir/theater in high school; music major (voice & piano) and English in college - Magna-Cum and top English major; sing professionally - mostly classical/sacred and do musical theater. Just finished playing the lead in Gershwin's "Crazy for You". And any and all self-confidence comes from singing and performing. So there - we're twins!!

David Cook has re-awoken that wonderful feeling in college of following a band. My roommate and I were "PWE-ettes" and were also best friends with all 5 members . . . who were adorable in a wonderfully sweet, quirky way, and were all University Scholars, and loved to play U2, Van Morrison, American Pie, Little Feat, you get the idea. David is the re-incarnation of our band . . . he's exactly what we loved about them. He's our Fountain of Youth - every photo I see, video I watch, song I hear (I have my Cook CD playing at work right now) - produces an un-stoppable smile on my face and a quickening of my heart. Don't think I'll ever be in a funk again!! Nothing will ever bother me as much as long as I can get a Cook fix somehow. What an awesome gift he has given us. He said once "get the feeling something else is at work here - a different plan in mind" and I entirely agree - - - dare I say destiny. The world has needed him, and here he is at last. The most human of beings perhaps ever to become a "celebrity". Along for the ride - take us away, David. We love you and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

SO - who wants to begin organizing the Cook-Cougars summer get together?? Think, like the Aiken-Cougars, we could manage enough influence for a Cook appearance? Travis, can you help? wink.gif We promise to behave.

Keeping his fans happy, what a sweet guy!

I wonder what "older" means to him, though?

well, it's nice to know, but I think I will stay married to my husband and not count on any future with David, though I truly value him as a person, an artist, a performer and a totally handsome dude! happy.gif

My sentiments exactly! I suspect to him, "older" is 30-something, not over 40. ;-)

He does seem to be a really amazing person, from all the interviews I've watched. Someone I'd love to
have as a friend, he'd be fun and interesting.

Ladies - check this out - - very relavent to us.

OK - bed. My husband just gave up on me and the cat is annoyed I'm still up . . . this is rather addicting, isn't it - - in a great way, though!! Good night all.

I met my husband when I was 41 and he was 26. We've been together for 17 years now. So there's definitely hope for you 40 year old cougars!

Welcome to the forum! It's nice to be able to talk to other women who fall into the "cougar" category.
I don't feel especially predatory, but I do fit the age requirement. ;-)

Besides, I admire cougars, living in the Rockies I've seen them in my yard and they are such
magnificent creatures, not a bad thing to be compared to!

Hey everyone, just want to say hi. You know, David is such a good person he seems so nice! I love the way everyone calls him Cookie! So cute. I have been watching AI for years and have only voted for two people, David and Chris Daughtry (I guess they remind me of my sons). I'm so glad that at least this time they got it right!!! I 'm
addicted to all the apperances and shows this week, what will I do when there all over?!? Just watch them again I guess.

I hope David has a long and successful run, I know I will buy everything he puts out!!!

Have a great day!

Hi, I'm so happy to find others just like me here on this board. At work we would talk about Idol each week, and when I said I'm liking this David Cook fellow, (after Hello), some agreed but others would have comments like he's too cocky, or I can't stand the way he combs his hair forward. (I happened to agree with that, don't worry I said the stylists will get a hold of him and fix him up -- thank goodness for the makeover)..So while I can talk about how happy I am that he won, I still can't really display the obsession anywhere (I can sneak in a few songs in my playlist, but since I share an office I can't play them continously)..

I made a CD of all of his idol songs in order, played it the other night, hubby didn't think it was that good. (what is he deaf????) Tween daughter thinks Archie is "cute" although she does like Eleanor Rigby and Time of My Life....Both kids looked at me as if I was nuts when I screamed out loud at "David ....................Cook!"

DVR'ing all kinds of talk shows, staying up till 2am every night replaying performances and downloading interviews, I haven't felt this kind of obsession in a while. And I can get them... back in my teens it was a soccer player for the Cosmos (anyone remember Steve Hunt)? When I was 17 I took the bus to a local car dealership where he was signing autographs and he gave me a ride home, then gave me a soccer ball at the next game....I was euphoric!!!!! (we didn't have internet back then, I cut out all the newspaper articles with his name mentioned).

The current and most long lasting mania is my Bruce Springsteen mania. I'm a member of Springsteen's chat boards, have been to numerous concerts, own every album and a large number of bootleg concerts, and my coworker tells me I get this look in my eyes when I say I'm going to a Springsteen concert. I love his music, he's so intelligent (and I find even in real life the sexiest guys I know are the ones who are really intelligent as well as good looking.) Never thought anyone else could match him (he's still the top musically, but I think DC will prove he's got a good portion of that same talent).

But this is different somehow, more like my teenage crush again. And maybe that's the point that all of you have helped me figure out, David Cook is making me feel like a teenager again. As the article referenced above pointed out, we've watched him transform from really geeky nerd next door who could sing, that we all knew in college (sorry, did not like the audition hair), into someone who showed he could shake things up and reach into our rock-chick souls instead of this smarmy pop stuff (think Hello and Billie Jean), and then slowly transform himself with the haircut and the mesmerizing Music of the Night haunting melody into physically attractive cougar bait, to finally his graciousness and humor and humility and intelligence and genuine niceness displayed during this past week. It's like getting to know someone slowly, sort of the way most of us have fallen in love with our hubbies (I don't know of anyone who's fallen in love at first sight) peeling back layer after layer to find more wonderful surprises underneath... And we want the opportunity to dig deeper, find out if there could possibly be any more layers (today I watched the VH1 bit and found a comedic actor in the mix). I like feeling young again, I like feeling that I can fantasize and obsess about someone else without feeling like I'm betraying either hubby or Bruce (David can share my IPOD with Springsteen, no problem!)

So, fellow cougars, thanks for helping me make sense of this, and making me realize I'm not alone, and I don't have to hide it when I'm on this board.

And as for the withdrawal symptoms we'll all be feeling over then next few weeks, well, there's the tour to look forward to, and I'm sure that somehow with all that's available to us on the internet, we'll be able to find fresh new material to fawn over (and dare I say ... download?) We'll play Analog Heart and the Idol performances over and over, and we'll all pick up the new album as soon as it's out... and soon the obsession will lessen and we'll get back to normal lives -- we'll put David back into perspective -- as a hugely talented sexy musician who hopefully will put out some great albums and do a few concerts here and there, a few guest spots (SNL maybe, Idol next year for sure). Someone we can admire and enjoy, right next to all our other faves..

Ironically, after all this, I don't have tickets to the Idols concert -- we're away on vacation for a couple of the local dates, and I've got -- Springsteen !!! -- tickets same night the other local date. Will have to live vicariously through all of you kind folks!!!!

I love you fellow cougars here on this forum!

You express so well the things I'm feeling myself. This is so well put, JerseyGirl2! That's exactly what happened to me. Starting with "nerdy looking guy, great voice" at the audition, the process of getting to know David over the weeks was a remarkable experience. New surprises every week, as I discovered the depth of his personality and talent. Like others on the board, I started out liking some of the others better, but DC won me over, each week a little more, and it's exactly the way my husband won me over many years ago.

Hi to my fellow word nerds ... My name is Dorri and I'm yet another cougar here (48 yo!) who has totally fallen for David Cook ... all I can say is wow ... I haven't had a "crush" like this since I was 11 or 12 yo and "in love" with Donny Osmond. This man just turns me on ... and I love his voice (and eyes!). Well good to meet everyone and good to know I'm not alone! LOL

Hi - I think I fall into the Cougar category. I joined this site when the AI season ended but haven't figured out how to post - or anything else - this is my first attempt at a reply. As to what kind of teenager I was - there were only three categories in my high school - juicers, freaks and goody goodies. I was a freak wannabe. I was too young to go to Woodstock but I was at Watkins Glen. Was anybody else there?

Hi Lee and welcome. Woodstock happened the summer before I left home so of course my parents wouldn't let me go. However when I went to college that fall alot of the kids in the dorm had been there. That was such a fun time, so much going on, so much good music. I remember the term freak, that was what we called ourselves, not "hippies". Brings back memories!

Wow, I was in the same boat with you regarding Woodstock. I had several friends at the time who went but my parents wouldn't let me go. That is one thing I haven't forgiven my parents for to this day!

Wow, I was in the same boat with you regarding Woodstock. I had several friends at the time who went but my parents wouldn't let me go. That is one thing I haven't forgiven my parents for to this day!

Carole

Hey Carole, me too, there are two things, not being able to go to Woodstock, and a few years earlier, not letting me go to the Beatles concert which was really, really close to where we were living in the D.C. area. They still don't know about half the stuff I **did** do during those days of Peace and Love, though, hee, hee.

Hey Girls! Liza here! I have a new term I have coined. I think I will probably need to trademark it! I started getting hot flashes last year, and now (to myself) I am going to call them "CookieFlashes". Nobody in my family will get it. They don't know about this obsession I have with DC! Thank God I have this board. I love it!

So tell me what you think!

Lee

I'm probably a little younger, but I lived in Poughkeepsie as a youngster and we used to take family trips to Watkins Glen. A few years ago, coming back from a road trip to Niagra, we made a stop - - forgot what an absolutely beautiful place that is.

In H.S., I fell into the choir/theater crowd . . .with a small touch of soccer for one year.

I was definatly a nerd/dork. Good student but shy and pretty much invisible-which was ok with me-I'm an observer by nature. I was the girl with glasses who always had some book under her arm. I came more out of my shell in college but was probably still one of the studious ones laugh.gif I've always been attracted to intelligent, confindent men and married one as a matter of fact(who is also a soldier btw). Crushes throughout the years have included Peter Jennings, Robert Palmer, Nicolas Massu and more currently Gerard Butler-David is the newest addititon. tongue.gif

Ahh Peter Jennings.. Oh Lord I loved that man! sad.gif

I totally bonded with Peter Jennings over New Years 2000 - he stayed on the air for 24 hours covering New Years celebrations around the world - couldn't have wished for anyone better to usher in the millennium with.

Hi Debbie and welcome. This is the first time I've joined a fan forum and I feel at home here with so many ladies around my age. I think DC's young fans are awesome too, but I'd feel out of place if I were the only person over 40. It's so cool that he appeals to people over such a large age range. I think it speaks well to his staying power.

God, I just love you guys! I could just sit here and read your posts all day. Yesterday I was on a plane and when the flight attendant announced that all electronic devices had to be turned off for takeoff, I was momentarily put out that I had to wait five minutes before David could sing into my ears again. How sick is that?

Hi Lee, I was at Watkins Glen and I still have the t-shirt! I did not make it to Woodstock because my mother sent me to Outward Bound instead and I had a geart time. I'm 55 and when I saw DC on AI, I knew right away he was special. It great to see this kind of talent. DC is a kind, funny, relaxed old soul with amazing talent.

I'm 51 years old and I certainly have it bad so yes indeed I'm a cougar for Cook! I'm proud of the fact too. I'm also happy to see he doesn't mind that we ummm appreciate him. Never in my life have I ever been a fangirl until Mr. Cook happened along. It took me by surprise, but I embraced it and am having one hell of a time along the way. I laughed and cried with him, celebrated when he won and am now looking forward to the tour (another thing I've never done, gone to an AI tour) and his CD (yup I preordered).

If you want to know the truth, I wouldn't have it any other way!
DeniseNJ
I would be a cougar as well. Proud to admit it too. LOL.

Hi, thanks for the nice welcome! It feels so great to feel this way! I am loving every minute of it too! I just downloaded his The Time Of My Life song as my ringtone too! biggrin.gif Who knows maybe I will get my first tatoo! tongue.gif

I suppose I must join this group as well! I can certainly relate to voting til my fingers were numb! cool.gif laugh.gif

Guilty on all counts! He's just a few months older than my oldest son, but DAMN!! I was forced to rescind my rule about not having fantasies about men under 30. A cougar and proud of it!!!!
PhotoGirl
Okay, I had to stop lurking and post. I'm 39, married with two beautiful little boys. But, yes indeed, I find myself a true Cougar as well! David Cook Rocks! Luckily, Hubby likes DC too. He knows I really like DC, but I try not to show exactly HOW MUCH I like him! Hubby and I both work from home, but today he was gone on a photo shoot all day, so I got to spend a little time on the boards today catching up on all the videos & pics. Love them! Now that AI is over, I need to get my weekly (make that daily) Cookie fix somehow! So, this site is great for that.

Can't wait for the Cincinnati AI tour!

AC/DC
Hi everyone! I wasn't going to post anything because everyone before me has said it all. Then I turned on the music player for the first time (favorites are Innocent, Always Be My Baby.1st Time Ever....,The World I Know, plus The Truth and Don't Say a Word) and was inspired to share.

I am early 40's, teenage son and daughter. As I'm listening to him, I can see in my mind every one of his facial expressions from that performance. How obsessive is that? For me, my husband and I pretty much live in the same house, but are really just together till the kids go off to college; separate rooms (past 5 years) and all that. So I have no guilt about my feelings about this man. Actually, I think the reason he means so much to me is that I realize, through him, that I can actually feel again. He affects EVERYTHING I do now, because my mood is constantly great for having him to think and smile about (and, hell yes, FANTASIZE ABOUT)!

I love the idea about the Cougar get-together. I have never had a big circle of friends (my mom passed away when I was 13, and my dad didn't let me do too much socializing since I had a 2-year old brother to help with). As an adult, I also only have a couple of close friends, none of whom I would dare mention this obsession to. They don't even watch Idol. So to have all of you guys to communicate with is truly a gift, makes me feel less alone in this crazytown we are in, all because of one Mr. David Cook~at least we have high blood pressure in common!

Thanks again! smile.gif

PS-finally tried to get my word nerd number, but I am new to the AI boards and when I tried to register, it said you must be over 13 to register, even though I was born in the 60's. I tried multiple times. Since I can't even get a post in to the technical support over there, can anyone suggest anything? Anyone else have a similar problem? I WANT TO BE A WORD NERD TOO!! sad.gif

PPS- I now notice that Time of my Life is the only ITunes left. Last time I looked the finale 3 were also available. Does this mean they are gone for good?? Please, say not so. I got complacent and didn't do it sooner because only my son's computer can burn a CD and he is always on. I knew many of the season's performances were going away on a certain date because Ryan said it, but I thought I had more time. I got my favorite 5 in time, but if I don't get the World I know I will cry buckets. I can't even get it to work as a ringtone.
