Pam, is it normal for sales to drop like they have, as far as you know? I'm not really sure where it is on ITunes right now, but I'm surprised it's taken it almost a month to go gold.
Oh, well. Props to our boy! The sooner he gets that shiny plaque, the better.

Just to compare to the coronation singles of the past seasons:
Jordin's never went gold.
Taylor's went gold in 5 months.
Carrie's went gold in 8 months.
Fantasia, Ruben and Kelly all went gold but I am not sure how long it took.
Clay's almost went platinum (his was the closest to platinum).
Cookie's will be one of the quickest to go gold. Another thing to keep in mind: Since his sales are all digital, there are no multiple copies to be counted as legitimate sales. And, there are songs receiving a lot more airplay selling a lot less right now.
A little fun fact to throw in: TOML was the #1 most requested song on my local radio station, WHOT in Youngstown, Ohio tonight.

A Moment Like This and Inside Your Heaven went Platinum according to numerous sites. Or at least they are now several years down the road.

hehe I was talking to one of the fans on the yes.com site on Sunday night and we were discussing the "magic rainbow" lyric in the song. Other than that, the song is really beautiful and is quite nice. I think out of 7 seasons, this may be the least cheesiest coronation song they have ever had but I think that is only because DC is singing it and the fact he was able to take the song and make it his own.

At this moment, he's number 3 at Amazon and #21 at iTunes. The radio plays are crucial: they find a new audience. I would think when city to city promotion of Idol tour begins, the song will receive lots of airplay. Some large radio station is always tied into the tour performances. In Houston, KRBE mentions that it will soon be giving away tickets. I am sure they will soon be playing David's song more.
I love it, btw.

I hate to start off the day with bad news, but the song lost 6 spins on the top 40 side with today's report. The song wasn't listed anywhere on the Mediabase taking off menu which shows how many stations you picked up the previous day. Of course those charts are basically cut off and only members can see the full chart. The song could have been there and I just wasn't able to view it. Who knows? Hopefully, the song will bounce back with tomorrow's report. WHTZ (Z100) did show up in the format starters this morning with 3 spins. That is the good news plus the song is still making gains on the Mainstream AC and AC sides.

100% agree as well. David kicks the song up a notch every time he sings it live.
The version on the radio grows on you -- I know when I hear the instrumental in the beginning - I turn up the volume when I am in the car.
I do find my self singing this one + others to myself during the day....
We have to remember, this was the chosen coronation song, so this song was handed to him - he always states in the interviews that this is the song from the show and he is really making the best of it.... If someone else had won, they would be singing it as well and they would probably sing it live as is and not change it.
We are fortunate that David tweeks the song whenever he sings live. As he mentioned as well = there are pieces of the song that really relate to what he is experiencing right now.

I agree 100% Annette. I can see fans not seeing this song as their cup of tea, but personally, I don't think the fans really should complain about him having to sing it. Personally, I think we should be thankful that the song is getting as much airplay as it has considering it was the winning song. I think the longer this song does well the better because if we go by what David has been saying, it will be at least the end of September before a single from the album would be released and this song needs to stay out there in the public as long as possible.
I too love the way that David is tweaking the song each time. He tweaks it just enough that it puts a new twist on it without making it sound too different from the original.

I was getting a little scared of this thread, since it seemed that Cookie was stagnating with the single, and I was preparing myself for the reality that it wouldn't go any further, since it is a mushy CS. Really, you can only sail on the Magic Rainbow for so long.
Glad to see it's gaining on Top 40, and it's been doing really well on AC, so losing a spin or two shouldn't mean much.
As long as it hangs in there a bit longer, I'm happy. I'm not sure I want it around for months and months, anyway.

Don't take this the wrong way, but may I ask why not? David said it would be at least late September before the first single from the CD would be released. I know everyone isn't thrilled he's having to sing this song but as long as this song is getting airplay, at lest it's keeping his name out there till the first single from the CD is released. It's in David and the label's best interest that this song does well.

While I would like it to be played every 5 minutes eventually, if it actually happened I would be all "That's my boy!" and eventually put on something else after the first 5 seconds. I'm weird like that. But you know I'm all about rocking the magic rainbow as much as possible in reality.
And I don't expect David to outsell U2 or Green Day or Kelly. He just has to do well and consistently do well to stay in the game. I think it would floor him if he sold on U2 levels because he's apparently a fan.

Thanks once again Pam. The first thing I do in the morning is check your info. I love the fact that he is gaining rapidly on TOML. I love the song. David is in the fortunate position of having a radio friendly voice. He makes every song sound good. This song gives me shivers and I cannot understand the Cook fans who do not want it to stay around long. That is what makes a good artist. I personally hate Bleeding Love but that is what has made Leona Lewis popular (the one song because the rest of the album is nothing). I wish TOML a very long life and may it prosper and gain popularity. I think because one or two people run the song down because of the lyrics and then everyone climbs on the bandwagon. It is the best coronation song in all the 7 years.

And I didn't mention U2 in any way shape or form to bring up his sales versus theirs, merely timing. U2 is U2 for God's sake. Although I do recall when they were just "that Irish band with the guy with the mullet"
Because Simon Fuller is no idiot and I doubt he would schedule the album to drop the same time theirs did nor would any fan of David's want them too. The media and the public have tiny little attention spans and a debut album would get lost in the shuffle. My point was merely that I would not count on a static date on the album until we have an idea of which if any major acts are dropping at the same time.
And God knows, U2 is quite capabale of putting off again to go back to Morroco to do God only knows what

I thought he did too. After we all figured out there would not be any time for David to actually sing, I thought the plug was nice.

Well, as far as the timing of the release of the CD, it will all depend on when David is finished and it is true that debut albums sort of get lost in shuffle with releases of the more established artists. Simon Fuller won't really have any control over this. It will be up to whoever is the head of RCA of when the release date is scheduled. That is the individual who will make that call. Yeah, it wold be really stupid to release his CD that same week, but if they make that ultimate judgment call, it will be because the CD is finished and the promo schedule has already been made up. Usually, labels like this try to space out the debuts between those of Idols and more established acts. There was supposed to be a 2 week lapse last year between the release of Alicia Key's album and Blake's but Blake was not ready on 11/27 to release his CD. It got pushed back to 12/4 because he started suffering from some of the same problems that Jordin faced with her vocal cords. Just so everyone understands, I'm not saying that this will happen with David.

I got ya. And yeah RCA makes the final call but they have a vested interest in it going well too and as you said try to stagger their releases.
