I like to look at the numbers, but I don't understand the industry anymore at all.
A few questions:
1) How can you tell that there is slipping when the ranking is the same and the end number is a plus?
2) Also, has TOML crossed the 700,000 mark in sales yet? I know it was getting close.
3) With so many charts, it is so confusing whether a song is going up or down. I wonder how people tell when a song is a "hit" nowadays. I am thinking about some of the other Idols who had platinum CD sales, which used to be a "good" thing, but it apparently isn't enough nowadays to keep their contracts.
1. I keep track of the Top 40 numbers on my computer and as far as the other 2 when it comes to the spins, I use what I posted the previous day to compare. Those + are the increase in spins from the week previous which will show you how far a song has increased or decreased.
2. As far as the sales of TOML, with last week's report it was about 12,000 away from hitting 700,000. The song was featured on last Wednesday and Thursday's edition of So You Think You Can Dance and that has probably given him a slight boost and we will probably see it when the #'s come out tomorrow.
3. As far as the charts go, this song has done better in some formats than it has done in others. This is after all the winning song and for hte most part, these songs don't do that well. To be honest as far as platinum sales go, Jordin now has 2 singles: 1 that has gone 2X platinum (No Air) and her first Tattoo that is close to 2 mil. status but her CD sales are just over 800,000. She is in the process of hitting the road with Jesse McCartney on a joint tour. Touring is really where the money is other than airplay when it comes to selling CD's. I believe at some point Jordin will hit platinum and will make another CD.
If RCA really pushes his next single and the CD the way they have pushed TOML, I think Cookie has a decent chance. I don't see any evidence at this point to think they won't.
