The World I Know- David Cook
Has our conscience shown?
Has the sweet breeze blown?
Has all the kindness gone?
Hope still lingers on.
I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don't know why.
Are we listening
To hymns of offering?
Have we eyes to see
That love is gathering?
All the words that I've been reading
Have now started the act of bleeding
Into one.
So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below.
And I laugh at myself
As the tears roll down.
'Cause it's the world I know.
It's the world I know.

My all time favorite song that he sang. It really spoke to his journey on Idol. Did you see what he said on Nightline about it? He is so adorable and sincere. Truely a nice guy! Thanks for posting the lyrics, I am so bad at understanding some of them. It's one of the pitfalls of being a cougar!

David Cook's performance of this song on Idol was magnificent. He sang it with such sensitivity, originality, and feeling. He really moved me. The World I Know was among my favorite songs before...but now having heard David's version, it has become a top song for me.
I really hope he puts his version of The World I Know on his album. Does anyone know if he will??

No, his performance did not draw the crowd into raucous cheering over every note (like Archie's "Imagine"), but his understated, sublime performance and absolutely gorgeous heart-wrenching singing was infinitely more touching and powerful than a "power ballad."
To me, this is the culmination of his entire experience and his maturity as a singer. Find a piece that speaks to you...and your audience will follow. It's not the other way around. Which is why he is the American Idol, and will be the present and future.
Just love, love his rendition. More heartfelt and masterful than the original.

I very much agree. I think we could almost see into David's soul as he was performing this. And to see him feel such relief when the 3rd song was over on the night of the top 2 was very heartwarming, too. He's absolutely amazing, and yes, very mature!
I'm proud to say I'm a fellow Missourian!

I totally agree - it's his soul that has completely drawn us in and why I personally love him so much! Just heard CS's version on the radio the other day and DC's version has completely eclipsed it for me, although the original is still a good song, David's version is so much more powerful. I love the acoustic version he sang on Ellen too.
