I'd like to hear a studio version of Hello by Lionel Ritchie, All I Ever Need Is You by Neil Diamond, and, strangely, Baracuda by Heart

C) Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman ( not sure if exact title) by Bryan Adams - personally would like to hear what he'd do differently than Daughtry
D) Black Magic Woman by Santana
E) Tiny Dancer by Elton John
these are just a few thoughts

There's a lot of stuff it'd be cool to hear him do, but a couple in particular would be maybe Kansas's "Dust in the Wind", Hawk Nelson's "You Have What I Need" or maybe even, just to be interesting, Gary Jules' "Mad World"-I'd like to see how he'd do that one.

"Tiny Dancer" would be amazing and I'm sure he'd do a great job. I love that song.

I've got more offerings, but I've been thinking about this some and I think that, as Mr. Cook said himself, he's only showed us 2-3 of his 5 card hand. I'd assume that Analog Heart etc. is only a sampling of his self-penned songs. Someone in a recent article or blog asserted that AH has at least 4 potential singles on it, so I'll bet there's plenty more (great original songs!) where that came from.
My first preference is always to hear original work, especially by such an able songwriter.
Still, if he has to throw a couple of covers in, here are some more of *my* favorites that seem to be in his range. They're not obvious fits, but in the tradition of Simon's final-2 choice, they might be a challenge and I'd like to hear what he'd do with them:
- "I will carry you" - Joseph Arthur
- "Tell her this" - Del Amitri
- "Great expectations" - Elbow

This may seem silly, but I'd love to hear him do 'Song 2' by Blur. I would love to see him go crazy on that

Others:
'Monkey Wrench'- Foo Fighters
'Roll To Me'- Del Amitri
'I Just Died In Your Arms'- Cutting Crew
'Broken'- Seether
'All I Want For Christmas Is You'- Mariah Carey (if he can do it once, he could do MC again!)
'Torn'- Natalie Imbruglia
'20th Century Boy'- T Rex

I have that, and I love it. I just think that DC could add some major sparkle and grit to the song, I'd love to see him rocking it up on stage with the Les Paul. Oooh and leather pants *drool*

Before R&R Hall of Fame show I kept imagining David Cook singing Led Zep Whole Lotta Love. I can hear it in my head when he goes "waaaaay down insiiiide... woman, you neeeeeed it..." Can you hear it?
I know it was too hot for AI. So maybe now?
My other ideas:
Black - Pearl Jam
Smooth - Carlos Santana feat. Rob Thomas
Love me two times - The Doors
Cookie's Girl
Jun 6 2008, 02:46 PM
Magnificent Obsession & Speechless - Steven Curtis Chapman
Still Here Waiting - Todd Agnew
Studio Version of My Hero - Foo Fighters (the live version of this was AWESOME!!!!)
Thunder Rolls - Garth Brooks (He said that this was one of the songs that inspired him as a kid...or something along those lines...)
Peace of Mind - Boston
Now or Never - Josh Groban (just to see what he'd do with it...)
America - Paul Simon (again, just to see what he'd do with it...)
As you can see, my taste in music is...out there. I literally listen to almost anything...except crap rap. I'm not ashamed to admit that I listen to movie soundtracks, like Lord of the Rings, or Star Wars.

I would love to see David Cook perform in person cuz i've been a fan since the pink tie, but prices are crazy. The AI Tour comes in Aug. and I want somebody else to go w/cuz i can't drive, but all together the tickets will be about $200.00. That's crazy...it's not like im going to go see the fray or anything! I understand that there is 10 people i would go see, but it's not like they are that famous, and would only be going to only really see one person..really. I guess I'll just have to wait until he comes by himself. That is such a bummer, but atleast i will have his new single and album to listen to in the mean time.

Okay, I am not an AI fan, and only started watching this season because someone turned me on to David Cook. I love his raw, gritty rock tunes and his unexpected choices with covers.
That being said, I can not stop listening to his performance of The Music of the Night. Every time I listen to it, I dream of hearing him (and seeing him) perform Dawn is a Feeling from the Moody Blues Days of Future Passed LP. It would take too long to explain the many connections of voice, emotion and meaning that lead me to draw this connection, but I think he would just ROCK that song.
I would rather see him write his own material using his own word-nerdary, but that is my dream cover for Cook.
Anyone have any similar dreams for other songs?
Yes, oh my god...what a voice...not since ol'blue eyes...and neil young...and all his own ...what a talent to be blessed with.

This will never happen as long as Cook is attached to AI, but ever since the night before finale night I have been wanting him to do "Sexx Laws" by Beck. There's a little bit of bluesgrass at the end so he could rock it on the AI tour and Chikezie could do that harmonica solo he threatened to do on LKL.
Anyway, there's a long list of now semi-obscure '90s singers that I would love Cookie to do. If he did anything off of Liz Phair's Exile In Guyville I would push myself to the front of the now very long baby-making line. Again? Fat chance. If he ever did a Tori Amos or PJ Harvey song I would die. Again, stuff that is very unfriendly to an AI audience so I don't think it's going to happen, butt . . .
I was listening to some Aimee Mann this morning and a few years ago she put out what has to be the catchiest album about codependency I have ever heard, The Forgotten Arm. A lot of those songs are just screaming to be Cookified and stripped down to a more angsty level.

MajinBu: I can also see him bringing back "Nights in White Satin" another Moody Blues Days of Future passed. I always loved that song, and I think that David would be able to bring this song back current.

Yup, I was the one who originally mentioned it.
I also would love to hear a full studio version of "hello" (Which got me in the first place) and First Time I Ever Saw Your Face - because he totally rocked that out on Idol -- now I want the full version!

I 100% agree with George Michael's Father Figure. My fave ever song by him. The finale tease was cruel, lol.
Have also got Red Hot Chili Pepper's Scar Tissue in my head too. Reckon he'd make a beautiful job recreating that track.

l'il sparrow - I like your taste in music. I suggested he sing with PJ Harvey over on the Dream Duets thread.
Has anyone suggested "whole lotta love" yet? I could see him making another molten hot lava knicker-wetting performance out of that one.
And this next one just came to me: STP's "Creep".

Iris, Arms Wide Open and a few Bon Jovi songs (specially Bed of Roses and Wanted Dead or Alive!) I think they would be perfect for his voice (...and I'm quite sure I would get goosebumps!)

Same!!!!
