Okay, I am not an AI fan, and only started watching this season because someone turned me on to David Cook. I love his raw, gritty rock tunes and his unexpected choices with covers.
That being said, I can not stop listening to his performance of The Music of the Night. Every time I listen to it, I dream of hearing him (and seeing him) perform Dawn is a Feeling from the Moody Blues Days of Future Passed LP. It would take too long to explain the many connections of voice, emotion and meaning that lead me to draw this connection, but I think he would just ROCK that song.
I would rather see him write his own material using his own word-nerdary, but that is my dream cover for Cook.
Anyone have any similar dreams for other songs?

I would LOVE to hear him sing "Father Figure" by George Michael, after hearing the snippit on the AI final.
I'd also love to hear the full version of "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2
I could go on for days.....but I will say, anything he writes I want to hear - I have a vision of him and his acoustic guitar at a concert, sitting on a stool -- singing something he wrote.....that might push me over the edge, but oh what a way to go!

I'd like to hear David Cook sing "Never Too Late" by: Three Days Grace
and I want to hear him singing some of his old stuff from his solo album Analog Heart live.
Maybe he'll sing some of his old stuff at the American Idols Live concert I'm going to in August.
But I doubt it.

I would love love love for him to sing anything by Lifehouse, especially Broken.
but honestly, anything he would sing would be good for me.
Oh and I know this is a sappy song, but it's still a great one, but a full version of the song he sang "First Time, Ever I Saw Your Face". I know corny, but I love that damn song.
can't wait for his CD.

i like what he did to "always be my baby" and hope he'll do the same thing to another pop song. i want him to pull something off that can really surprise listeners and give us goosebumps. i'm a person not really into rock but somehow, he made me crave for and wanting to hear/see more of his performance. a true star indeed.

Also, I want him to sing his own songs. At least "Let Go" and "The truth."

Well, see, now you just got me thinking of what Dylan tune in particular I'd like to hear. Let's see....I'm going with Shelter from the Storm, or Idiot Wind. Oh..no, Restless Farewell, that would be stellar. I'd love to hear Restless Farewell done with more edge and a little Cook twist.

Exactly what I was thinking! He has a bit of the Westerberg in him. The smartass gene me thinks. Definitely think The Truth would be great. And Straight Ahead and Searchlights would be my top three.

Little Bobby Zimmerman! Good choice. I'd have to say either Shelter From The Storm ala Cook or Tangled Up In Blue.

Rest Stop...by Matchbox 20
Because the lyrics are really interesting (if you've ever been in that type situation, and most of us have!) and it's got a vibe that would totally work for David.
Cry....Angie Aparo's version...not Faith Hill's version
You'd have to listen to AA's version. He wrote the song. With Faith...all you notice is the chorus, but with AA you notice how really great the rest of the lyrics are. Plus hearing a guy sing it gives another perspective.
Would...by Alice in Chains
Just because he'd be awesome on this!
Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own...by U2
Because David is all about relationships and his voice would be amazing on this. Think "Innocent" and what all he did with the highs and lows in that song.
Victim of Love...by the Eagles...overlooked but great Eagles song. Time for a remake.
Livin' On A Prayer...by Bon Jovi ....because he was great when he sang during his homecoming!

Since I'm a huge Springsteen nut, I'd like to see what he could do with a Bruce song. I've spent the last couple of days trying to guess which one might suit his voice.

Also, someone mentioned Livin on a Prayer. COnsidering David sang the This Left Feels Right version of that song, I can honestly say, and I'm an enormous Jovi fan, that he sang it better than Jon does. I was completely blown away.

I am really looking forward to his upcoming original stuff.
However, I really want to hear him perform "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" in concert or at least to make a single out of it. That one, (which DC admitted made him go pale when he heard that he had to sing it), sealed the deal for me. I love hearing his rock songs but thought it was amazing when he really stepped outside his comfort zone.
