Now, let's go straight to the point. My sister (1) and some of my cookie friends are telling me that they don't like David's smile, or rather, his smirk. Well, for me, I do care about the things they say about DC. In my opinion, it just makes him smexxi (2), don't you think so? Others think that his devilish stare and evil smirk just make him look like he's an arrogant singer . But hey ! Let's be positive, no? Let me just repeat (and add some words) what I had just said a while ago:

David Cook's devilish stare and evil smirk make him smexxi!

He don't possess a body with big muscles and he don't do bold poses (just like what others think about the real meaning of smexxi), but in his way , the smexxiness in him was shown! Don't you think so?

I have a whole slideshow that plays on my desktop centered around that killer smile. That crooked, half-grin is super-sweet and very delicious. Your sister & cookie friends could not be more wrong.

And he's 'smexxi' not just b/c of the grin, but because of so much more - he's confident, articulate, witty, empathetic, with a huge stage presence and the soul of a artist. Nuff said.

Really nice answer, and lovely photos. Three of my favorites, too. I want to add my agreement that I find his side-ways smile extremely sweet and even a little shy, not smirky at all. If you look at some of the pics of him which have been published from when he was very small/young, you will see he smiles the same way from the very beginning. It is one of his characteristics uniquely his own. He is really precious. It is why everyone from babies to hot babes to grandmas absolutely adore him.

Hes not evil by any means I don't know why people say things like that!!! I think his smile/smirk is a little mishivius and sexy and cute for that matter I don't think he has an evil bone in his body. and I think Simon was insane to say hes pompus and aregent hes not any of those things he really in my opinion from what I've seen of him a nice guy!!! I have yet to see other wise though I have the feeling if you mess with him or his familey or friends you would get your ass properly kicked and I comend him on that. Hes a great guy!!!!

I feel like I've defended David's smile so much to people recently...they all think it's arrogance! honestly I've never gotten that vibe though, I think it's just the way he smiles and he's adorable when he does it.

There's a lot of people who developed this horrible misconception of him. And I hate having to defend him when I don't think its really warranted. If any of these people were to actually watch and listen to his interviews, they would see how humble and genuine he truly is. I think some of it stems from Simon's comment during IGB week which is sad, since Simon apparently respected and liked him (as evident from his praise of him on various shows like Ellen, and his apology at the finale, in addition to him saying how "nice" both of the final contestants truly were.) And yes, some of it sadly stems from this wonderful sideways smile he tends to give (which is part of what drives all of us crazy!). I love that sideways smirk. Thanks for posting some truly fabulous pics of that so we can all appreciate it some more. I think part of the reason I like it is how flirty it is...and also how "boyish" it is. So while he's all manly when it comes to performing and how he speaks (gotta love his 50 cent words), when he does that little smirk and gets that twinkle in his eye...it makes me feel like a giggly teenager all over again. And I love it.

Over at where I am at, quite a number of people have mentioned that they find his smirk to be inappropriate at times, and they find him to be arrogant.

But, I guess they didnt quite follow him from the start to know that he is totally the opposite.

His smirk/crooked smile is really very endearing! I always look forward to them when he performs.

David totally look like a bad boy but he is such an angel inside.

You have hit the nail on the head and so has Nurse_KJ. It is perfectly possible to be sexy and yet good-hearted at the same time. It just doesn't happen that often, is the problem. Too often it is only the bad boys who have that sexy aura. Very few people know how to be sexy without being too much that other way. But David has finessed it, just as he does with everything else. He is a master at so many things. I think he is a Renaissance man for the 21st Century.

That's the first time I have gotten a good look at his eyes, and they are, like, WOW!!! Amazing.

I find his smile super sexy! There's nothing worse than a guy doing a huge cheesey grin or looking like a gurner when he smiles!

As for his eyes - oh my goodness! They sparkle in a way i've never seen before - especially when he doesn't have huge eyes. They have an intensity to them which i find intriguing and endearing. Could look at them all day!!!

I couldn't agree with you more, BLake. Paula was right, he's the whole package I think that some people mistake his confidence with arraogance. For me, I just loved how he would stand toe to toe with the judges...but not be disrespectful. I totally loved it in the finals when Simon told him how awful his song choices were and asked him if he understood what he meant, and David said, "I do and I don't." Ryan asked him to explain and David started talking but there was still a buzz in the audience.....he paused (and you could hear a pin drop!) and then talked about his progression in this contest. What a moment! No apology, just his strong conviction over his choice of songs. Some people might think that was arrogance, but again, he's just self confident!

Love that grin, because it encapsulates all that....and more! That's what makes this guy so sexy!!!!!
(Ugh...there is no smiley good enough for this emotion! Someone has to come up with one that's flushed and melting into a puddle on the floor, or something!)

honestly, i have never encountered a DC hater, ALL of my girl friends LOVES DC and thinks he's incredibly sexy and talented. so i can't say much to this thread and all i could say i LOVE this man's smirk/sideways smile/crooked smile (or whatever you might call it) they could just simply make me weak in the knees...

I get it, people say he's arrogant, but don't worry, they just can't find anything wrong about him, so they have to make things up. My friends always tell me that he's arrogant and like you girls I'm also defending him everytime, but there are times I just ignore them .. they won't get it anyway!

But David talk about this in one of this interviews, not exactly his smile but the perception that he's arrogant, he said that that's just bec he came to AI w/ no expectations and so when negative comments fr the judges comes his way his confidence doesn't falter, and he said maybe that's why people think he's arrogant. - and I personally agree he's just oozing with confidence that some people just don't get it.

My sister and I talked about how we love when he do his "evil" smile and when he he smile while he singing and we also agree with each other that he have the best laugh.

His smirk is what attracted me to him at first (besides his amazing voice, that is).. I like a guy that has alot of confidence shining behind his eyes and smile and I saw that within David. I don't think he's necessary cocky or arrogant but he knows who he is and his smile is just one of the ways he says, "Hey, I'm comfortable with who I am." It works for me!

The poor guy can't even smile without having it analyzed. I guess that is the price of fame. There are always going to be people who can manage to find the negative in anything...even how a person smiles. To me, his smile and the twinkle in his eye is one of a person with a sense of humor. I find it endearing and would love to know what he is thinking at the time.

I actually ended up in a big debate the other night with one of my very good friends and her fiance. I love them both dearly, but I don't put up with David bashing. It stemmed off of her status on facebook where she said rude, inappropriate things about David. I told her I no longer loved her due to that and the subject of david got broght up the next night at dinner. hey both said he was arrogant and when I asked why, her fiance explained that one time it was the way he looked into the camera and then when the camera moved, so did he. I said that didn't warrant calling him arrogant since he was doing what he was supposed to, playing up to the camera and the audience! What really pissed me off was when I said how I really gave him props for how he's been handling everything that's going on with Adam and they both said he probably put that out there so everyone would feel sorry for him. I started to really get heated here and said he always refused to talk about it, but they were still convinced that he was milking the sympathy votes. I ended the great debate with, "Well who won American Idol? By 12 million votes? Who's #1 on iTunes?" They realized I wasn't going to budged and let the conversation drop. It just really pissed me off because they've never seen anything where David has done an interview and what a sweet guy he is.

But seriously I don't find it evil or arrogant in any way. I think it actually makes him look like a four year old. Which in turn is adorable. I think he's just showing off his goofy personality. And yeah it looks like he's up to something. Like the kid who was caught sneaking a cookie from the cookie jar and when he was caught made that face cause really...how could you stay mad at that?
