In the Philippines, we really start college early because we only spend 2 years in pre-school, 6 years in mid school, then 4 years in highschool then we're off to college!

So you're a journ major as well?

Yeah, my school group mass comm together, but it's cool because I can be in either field. But writing is closer to my heart.QUOTE (Emilya @ May 26 2008, 03:51 PM)

WISTY!
Im a poli sci major/ communicatoins minor

I'm a college student too I attend community college, Im transferring to UCSD next year! wee!
Hey to fellow English, and Journalism majors!
I like journalism too; from a young age I always read the newspapers and very much interested in what's going on in the world.
I LOVE to read, and I like writing as well.
aka I was a wordnerd pre-DC too.
Me too, I'm the only one that's watching American Idol, and only one I know who REALLY likes David Cook. Haha.

Cool. I didn't do the news paper thing, but used to love watching Primetime, 20/20, and I love DatelineQUOTE (Lynx0526 @ May 26 2008, 11:48 AM)

Hey guys! I'm pretty new around here, but I'm an 18-year old English major/French minor (and possibly a music industry minor) from Boston, MA, and i'll be starting sophomore year in September!
I was lucky enough to get roommates who were completely obsessed w/ Idol and DC was our fave (along with Michael Johns) from the start! even after school got out and we all went back home to our respective states, we'd call/text each other during the show and all made sure to vote! lol
Nice to meet you all, and great to see fellow english/communication majors out there! of course, to us nothing's sexier than a word nerd, right? lol
Yeah I know. Mass Comm is getting more popular. When I transferred to my university, I thought there would be about 8 of us. I go to a small university. But there's a mess of us lol. Yeah, the word nerd thing is quite cute. QUOTE (Stefanie85 @ May 25 2008, 11:23 PM)

cool it seems like there are a lot of us

I'm 22 and a communications major/music management minor.
as for my friends liking Cook...most of them don't watch Idol so they're a bit clueless, but what they have heard they liked. my mom's probably a bigger fan than them though haha
Sounds like me. But I'm the bigger Cook fan than my mom. She's always thought he was an ego maniac. Plus, the whole Kim thing doesn't help lol. But she does admit agree he was the best one.

21 year old professional and technical writing major/sociology minor here. When Idol first came on, I watched it with my roomie who had to move out soon after the season started. Really, though, if any of those (now old) roommates or my current friends knew just how obsessed I was, I think it would scare them a bit.

Twenty-one year old college girl majoring in Art History with a minor in English. I was an English major, but I truly felt my calling was in the wonderfully complicated and elaborate world of Art History. I love both subjects equally though, and I too was a Word Nerd prior to David Cook. The only problem? I have to take an entrance exam for grad school and I have to be fluent in both French and German (some Italian for my particular area of concentration) and I've spent eight or so years mastering Spanish.
Thank goodness for the Rosetta Stone programs though.
I absolutely drove my roommate crazy with David. She wanted to murder me, but I finally made her a fan when she listened to I Don't Want to Miss A Thing. Seven weeks of work paid off lol. Most of my friends don't watch Idol though (I admit, I didn't either until I saw the women on The View talking about his performance of Billie Jean). My mom likes him too, so we chat about his music a lot. Other than that, I save my thoughts on him for this board. Everyone here adores the man and his music just as much as I do.

I'm a nineteen year old university student who plans on majoring in Communication/English, hence why I admire David Cook for being a self-professed Word Nerd.
American Idol has been such a nice distraction from school, but now it's slowly consuming time which could be spent towards other productive matters, like studying!
I got a couple of my friends hooked on AI too, but they can't catch up to my degree of obsession!
By the way, I love how so many of you are Arts/Journalism majors. Word Nerds are the best nerds!

Is it the Word Nerd thing that has gotten all of the English/Comm students? Yeah, studying was on the backburner for American Idol. Although I did miss to result shows for friends lol. Toward the end I would watch then read while Hell's Kitchen was on. I like that show too.

I really love my major, and lucked out my college had it since the only other big campuses that offer it are in LA, Boston, or NYC, which are very expensive and far from me. Who knows, after a while maybe I can get in a big label and work for Cookie, lol

personally I was always the kid that used "big" words and everyone made fun of me for it haha so it's awesome that David's embracing intelligent vocabulary as a cool thing to use.

i'm a 21 year old attending the university of texas at el paso and my major is education in middle grades focusing on math (i want to teach middle school students....people think i'm crazy for that lol) none of my friends watched american idol...so i'm pretty much solo when it comes to my addiction to cook (well, my mom loves him too lol) i'm decent at math so i figured why not help motivate kids to embrace math. however, i like david cook, love crosswords and word searches! so yeah

Ei, guys, I'm pretty much a lurker here...
I'm 16, and an incoming college freshman, i'm taking up Computer Engineering, and i'm totally into David Cook!
My relatives are more of Archie fans, but they adore Cookie too! Some of my friends don't even watch AI, but they like David Cook, 'coz they always hear his songs played on the radio... he's pretty much invading Mp3 playlists here as we speak.

19-year-old Hospitality Management Major here
I'll be a Junior next quarter at THE Ohio State University - GO BUCKS!
None of my friends watch Idol, but my dad does and so does my Godmother (she's obsessed with David - one day out of the blue she texted me "I've got DC fever!" LOL) and she's going to the concert with me. I have started to convert my best friend...after she heard some of his songs, I told her to look up "david cook pirate joke" on youtube, and when she did she told me she thought he was really cute and funny. If she only knew...

Wow, I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. I just graduated with my degree in exercise science and am going on to physical therapy school. Every class I took that studied the body, how exercise and disease affect it, just amazed me. Our program was thick in cardiac care and I got to follow a cardiothoracic surgeon for a week. Seeing the heart and lung anatomy in real life a foot away from me blew my mind.

Somthing funny that I'd thought I'd share. It proves that was all can't be Word Nerds.
I was texting my friend Sidne yesterday. She was talking about reading a book series. I asked her "Premise?" and she texted "What?" I thought premise would be enough to get my question, maybe not. It was kind of funny. I wrote back. "The story's theme"

The bold part is my question: Why you have to be fluent in French and German, because of the grad school you're going to, or because of your art history major?! I'm taking my first art history class, and I see lots of Italian and French names.
Suddenly 3 years of french paid off, the french name are easy for me to remember haha

I'm in college but in Australia its called university.
Anywho I'm 20, almost 21 and I'm first year in Bachelor of Communication, I want to major in journalism next year.
I've already got a Diploma of Professional Writing and Editing from TAFE that took 2 years, straight out of high school - 2006-2007.
I could end up intervewing and writing about DC one of these days. I don't know how much interviewing would take place though.
