RCA created a band for Chris D., and named it after him.
Would you prefer for David to remain a solo artist, or would you like to see him fronting a band?
My preference is solo artist.

That's a good question. I'd rather see him solo but we know he knows how to front a band and do it well so either way would be fine with me.

personally, i'd like to see him front a band... but, i realize that it can be very difficult finding bandmates that have the right chemistry and that are able to collaborate together creatively. whether his albums are produced as a solo act or with a band, he will need a band to tour... when i think of successful solo male acts, i mostly go to country... i can't think of any rockers off the top of my head. one of my fav solo country artists is brad paisley and he records with the same band that he fronts on tour...
irregardless, if he fronts a band... it better not be called "cook." i'd actually puke.

He can be a solo act with an accompanying band. I totally understand that. To me, to have a band is to have a very strong bond with the people in the band. It isn't something that happens immediately.

There are negatives to both as well. If he does just solo material, that is limiting. He won't be able to really get out there and jam. But if he becomes David Cook and the So-n-sos, then he is limited to whatever sound the so-n-sos make. He is too diverse for either option to be total.
I hope he is in a position to have options depending on whatever song he happens to be singing. Solo when it requires solo, band when it requires back up. I just hope he gets to pick who the so-n-sos are and does not get stuck in the "recording label product" over produced studio band madness. He's gotta work his way out from under the AI expectations and do what he does on his own terms. I would rather see him go back to bar bands in KC then get stuck under the thumb of a bunch of shirts.

don't matter to me I have heard his solo stuff and the stuff he did with Axium and both rock..although I do like the Analog Heart stuff better...as long as we get to hear some new tunes from him it's all good to me!

I honestly do believe he's going to go the solo route. I mean he progressed from Axium, to a solo album already prior to the show, and I doubt he'd take a step back and go back to a band [not that I'm saying a band is a BAD thing] but I think he's obviously already maken his decision.
Thats jusy my opinion though :]

Either. Whichever works best for him is what I want. Either way he would have a studio band and tour band so I don't think being a solo artist will hinder playing live. And if he is in a band I would agree it would be like Daughtry or Tom Petty.

Definitely band.
He is so the front man; he seems to like interacting with bandmates and feeding off the energy of collaboration.

If David is going to have a band to back him up, they will play what he wants and they will make the sound he wants. That's what happened with Analog Heart, he had 100% control over sound and lyrics. People played the music they way he wanted it. Now look at the Album, it's the most searched for album on the net.

Even if his album is a "solo" effort, he's going to need a band to play the music...I interpreted this question to mean wether it'll be "David Cook" or "Band Name Here" on the title. Even on AH, I recognized the names on the credits as the people from his old bands.

Isn't that funny? I took it to mean solo = guy sitting on a stool. (Guess it is the Bob Dylan/John Prine in me.) And so "band" to me inherently meant back up. As you say, I never imagined "band name here." So my fear related to how much control he'd have over said back up. I assume if he gets his druthers he'll be able to pick and choose, but my pessimism with regard to the business has me concerned he'll be bottle and labeled for a while until he gets the cred to do his own thing. I mean, I can't imagine some producer going, "Welcome to the business. Here is your very first contract. Any buddies back home you'd like to play bass?" You know what I mean? =)

Well, the funny thing was from what I understood, Daughtry's bandmates were picked for him but in Blake's case, his band members were all friends of his from Seattle and of course he was the runnerup last year. Personally, I'd rather see him solo but whatever works best is what matters.

I'm sure that they'll pick good people that he can work well with because DC is making mad money for them right now. There's a pre AI win interview with his old bandmates floating around where one of them jokes that he would like to "audition" for David's new band. My guess is that there will be try-outs and that he'll have some input into the process.

YES!! PRECISELY! Carrie Underwood is a solo artist....she has a fantastic group of musicians and back-up vocalists with her. I think that this is what David needs, too. With that being said, I think that we need to hear more of DC on the guitar (Analog Heart is a prime example of his wonderful guitar skills!!) and less back-up singers....or male back-ups. On the studio version of Eleanor Rigby, DC brings us some superb vocals and the guitar is super cool...then the lady back-up singers come in and it doesn't really fit the rest of the song! (At least we get some shining vocals from DC to stand out over those vocals, though!)

I never really thought of Chris Daughtry in a "band". I know it technically is a band with his last name, but he is the one everyone talks about. I am not sure how much the other members contributed to the writing process and the sound we now hear. David has already said he wants to be a solo act. He will of course have a band in the studio and on tour with him, but he wants to control the direction and sound of his music. It is hard to have and sustain great chemistry in a band. David is very creative and has his own unique style. he has already been in 2 groups, so he knows how it feels to be in a band and a soloist. I think it will be easier for him to stay true to himself with a solo career.

I like the idea of that - I know an English solo artist who takes a band with him on tour and on some TV appearances but he is in fact a solo artist.
I think it will be hard for him to pick band members though, because like many of you have said, you need the right chemistry etc.
I think David will go solo but mix it up sometimes with a backing band.

For me the best part of seeing a band is the way the interact and play off each other which won't happen so much if they are put together by a record company, it needs to evolve naturally. So for me solo at least for this record.

Either is fine with me.
He did say in an interview this week (the KC Star one?) that he's leaning toward a band right now, so as to have "a band of brothers" to hang with on tour. I was really struck through the entire AI season by what a team player he is, so it doesn't surprise me that he'd want to front a band again. I'd see it as being something like Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band (betraying my age here a bit!)- working together when it suits, or doing solo albums when that feels right. That being said, I really hope that he has good chemistry with the bandmembers, and that doesn't seem like something you could rush into while simultaneously touring, songwriting and recording an album!

I don't mean to sound like a smarty pants but I have numerous hours and miles logged on my car due to my Daughtry obsession!

Chris's previous band members from Absent Element did all get to try out but they didn't make it. Chris was very much involved in the process of picking his band. His first album was written without the members of the band as it was mostly done while he was touring with AI as will happen probably no matter which way he goes with David. Daughtry is currently working on a new album right now and the whole band is contributing. It really is the Chris show so to speak but for anyone who has ever been to a show their chemistry is great! So for me, I would wish that same kind of rocking brotherhood for DC!! But as so many have said I will be buying his cd at WalMart at 6am the day it comes out no matter which way he goes!!!!!
One last thought~I believe Bo Bice's "Sugar Money" bandmates all had to try out for his band and they made it....
