Why'd he say that? Cause he watched it? There really is nothing very "secret squirrel" about him watching Chris' audition or anyone elses the night before he went as moral support with his brother.

He did not plan on auditioning for the pre-auditions. But he ended up doing so because of that AI producer that interviewed him and his mom and brother that urged him to audition. He made it through the pre-auditions, so AI set up another day for those who made it through the pre-auditions to audition in front of Randy, Paula, and Simon. David watched Chris Daughtry's auditioin before those auditions, not the pre-auditions.

Yes, the ones we see on tv is actually the second audition. The first audition is only for the producers, which they will decide if you have what it takes to appear on tv, good or bad that is. If you go through, you will get to audition for Randy, Paula and Simon. This is also why some people refuse to audition for the show, because sometimes it's not just about the talent. But in this case, talent triumps, thankfully

that's exactly what i thought. over at the vftw forums they talked about that too. and i always wondered that maybe he HAD to come back for the judges' audition and that's when he watched daughtry's audition the night before. he was wearing a different outfit (if you saw the one from his journey video with andrew introducing him) and during his televised audition (remember the sweater????) LOL
so yeah. i've been meaning to ask that around here am so glad it's been clarified. thanks!!!!

That's right. I was there as moral support for MY sister when she was auditioning in Omaha, and you have to audition for other people first before you ever get to the next round. Simon, Randy, Paula and Ryan aren't even at the pre auditions. That comes later. The judges never see the full 100,000 + people that audition. Only the pre-judges do. The TV judges only see the ones that made it through the first round.

this past summer in Philly at the Wachovia Center my sisters had 2 auditions in front of producers on the same day. They didn't make it past the 2nd round (boo), but those who did came back a couple of months later to audition for Randy, Simon & Paula at another location.
If they had made it to Top 10 David Cook could be my lover right now.
LOLOLOLOLOL JUST KIDDING PEOPLE!!!!!

You know I watched Chris Daughtry's audtion the other day on youtube & found it ironic that Simon said no to him & also said no to David in hollywood week. And he also told Daughtry he had no charisma and which we all know he told David the same thing. And did anyone notice that their birthdays are only 6 days apart? Chris was born on December 26 & David was born on December 20. And of course their initials are interchangeable (DC and CD)......maybe I'm a dork, but I just found that all ironic.
Apparently I have way tooo much time on my hands to think about these things. lol
And just think....if either Randy or Paula listened to Simon, we may not have Cook or Daughtry! Horror of all horrors!

did his brother make it through the pre auditions?

No, he has said in interviews that he and his brother initially auditioned together, and he made it while his brother didn't. He also said that he asked his brother right away if he should go back, and his brother said yes (or he'd kick his a$$!). I love his brother!!

I just watched Chris Daughtry's audition and it went much, much worse than David's. For one thing, Chris is all over the place vocally (David was very controlled, and knew when to stop singing), Simon gives him a flat no, and Randy almost doesn't let him through, either. It was almost a mercy pass.
Cookie's goes a lot better, and all three judges seem to be pretty enthusiastic.
