New Album Updates
So we're all but done with pre-production. New songs are coming together sexy-like. We're going in to do drums on September 8th and 9th on ten songs. They are as follows:
DISCLAIMER: These are all working titles and they are in no particular order. Also, any one of these songs may not make the album
A Daily AntheM
Precious Decline
Chandelier
The Downfall
Only If...
Better Late Than Never
We're Only Honest When We're Sleeping
Elizabeth
Never To Return
By The Fire, Gently Burning

I'm also toying with the idea of a live track version of one of the songs from "Analog Heart". We'll see how functional that idea is.

Lastly, I'm contemplating naming the album 'Optimistic To A Fault". Good idea? Bad idea? I want your input.

Later, taters.

Album update... november 07
Current mood: creative
Here's the skinny...
the drum tracking is done. Aaron Baker has done a masterful job. This album is going to have a different vibe than the last, and a lot of that is due, in part, to Aaron.
Right now, there are ten songs. I'm crossing my fingers for an eleventh, but time will tell.
the tracks, right now, in now particular order, are:
A Daily AntheM
Chandeliers (Monty's pining for 'Scandeliers')
The Downfall
Debutante
Elizabeth
Better Never Than Late
We're Only Honest When We're Sleeping
Eta Carinae
A Dirty Shame
Precious Decline

The album title is still up in the air. "Optimistic To A Fault" has been joined by "Remember This". thoughts, questions, concerns?
Right now, we're looking at a March release, but nothing's set in stone. could be earlier or later.
other than that, I hope everyone enjoys their holidays. take care and see you soon.

I am bumping this for all the people who keep asking how we knew about A Daily AntheM. It's far too fun to be missed!
DavidCookIsAllThat!
Thanks for bringing this back to the fore, Pad. I had been wondering which of his pre-idol songs was making it to the album. Now we know. I am really looking forward to November 18th!

Sara
olive_juice
So they included Daily Anthem on his new album which was from his pre idol album right? JUst wondering.

And it's really nice to see the other side of David, a little naughty though. Thanks for posting those blogs.

Edna
James Padfoot (KN)
Not a problem, Sara! Lol, #1 rule is to share, yesyes? =) And a lot of newer fans haven't seen his myspace blogs. They're hilarious.

Edna, this album is the album that was set to be released but never was because that was the week he got into Hollywood. And well, the rest is history...

And what an amazing history David is writing for himself!

Thanks for bumping this back up. I am really happy "A Daily AntheM" made it onto the new album. smile.gif I wonder if we will ever get to hear these other songs...some of the titles are pretty intriguing.

I really hope that we will hear the rest of the songs someday. I can only imagine that they are just as incredible as the songs from AH.
sterlinglinda
Hmmmm? I wonder who Elizabeth is? Wow, I feel like the Enquirer! These things just make me go Hmmm! wink.gif

Well now that I think about it it is probably his Mom Beth. I would love to hear all of the songs on that album. Maybe one of these days he will release it.
kss004
It makes me sad that we might never hear the rest of those songs. sad.gif Hopefully one day...

I remember reading this oh so many months ago. What a long long way our Dave has traveled, yet he seems not to have strayed too far from who he really is at the core, a beautiful soul who longs to create beautiful and meaningful music.

Can I just say how much I love this guy.

Lee_K
I guess Elizabeth is Liz, no?
James Padfoot (KN)
I'm more inclined to believe that the Elizabeth mentioned is Liz -the ex. Who is notorious around here for seemingly breaking his heart....

David strikes me as the kinda guy who falls hard and fast, but falls out fast too and his method of getting over it seems to be writing a song, putting it all out there, and letting go, exhaling.

This is pure speculation of course, and I usually wouldn't contribute to the line of discussion but its interesting because this is his inspiration in a way, for his lyrics and music.

sterling, David's hardly going to refer to his mother by her name dontcha think? Not a complete inpossibility, but given the timeline and his style, I'd definitely go with the ex.

People seem to inspire and fuel him.
NEMOCougar
Very fun thread -- thank so much for bringing it back and documenting the beginning of A Daily AntheM.
iluvcookies81
My memory is not so good, so I completely forgot the track titles of OTAF. I wish he could release those songs. Maybe next year sometime. I know they have to be too good to lay around and be wasted, that would be a shame. I can't wait to hear his new album. We only have 30 days left. Look out Wal-Mart here I come, lol.
James Padfoot (KN)
You're welcome, NEMO. =)

And Christi, I reckon David will release those sometime in the future. As bonus or releases to his loyal Word Nerds. It's what most artistes do with extra tracks and such. Unless he actually re-releases AH and OTAF in a special two disc thing or something.

There is a demand for those songs, and I reckon sooner or later, we'll get to hear it. But definitely not in the current year or so, they won't let it compete with his current debut.
CookieMomTenn
Thank you for bumping this thread. I had read the blogs months ago and caught the capitalization he mentioned to A Daily AntheM. So when it came out on the new album some were saying that those of us who caught on to it right away were full of it. Well I knew I had read about it before but couldnt find it, so thank you!!!
~melissa
CookItUp
haha i love it! david is so hilarious and just himself. smile.gif i dont mind the cuss words or anything..my favorite singer besides david, matt nathanson, cusses like every 10 seconds and has to use the f word in like every sentence. LOL.

smile.gif reading those made my day! it would have been cool to known him back then!
James Padfoot (KN)
You're welcome, Melissa. I didn't register ADM when I first saw the tracklisting on DCO, until I noticed the capitalization, and then it hit me, because I vaguely remembered seeing it before. Then everyone kept going on about how it was for Adam, and I remembered. So this was for everyone who forget. According to those that frequented his myspace back in the day, he'd put out some song snippets, but no one recorded it, so we don't have any. ADM, Scandeliers, and Elizabeth, I think, plus Better Never Than Late.

CookItUp, I wish I knew him back then too. Lol, but he is still just as awesome, if not more, now. wink.gif
wheezie_v
Part of me wishes he was still in a position to be this open when he blogs, but you've gotta take the good with the bad. And he's on a path to be a superstah soon, so there are tradeoffs to be made. He's more guarded now, with very good reason. The blogs are awesome, but the David who wrote them didn't stand a snowball's chance in h*ll of playing, SNL, so....tradeoffs.
Tlatz
Thank you so much for sharing these! It's great to read what was going on with him while he was writing/recording Analog Heart, and performing with Axium/MWK! smile.gif
James Padfoot (KN)
Very true, wheezie. Trade offs have to be made in the name of profression. But I still say that David is still a helluva lot more open about his life and everything then most musicians/celebs are.

Tlatz, you're welcome.

Perhaps the mods could pin this up, for the sake of new fans who'd like to see a glimpse of pre-Idol david?
dc4beth
Thanks for sharing this. i've been looking for David's myspace blogs before he went to AI around the net and you are heaven sent for posting this here, James Padfoot!

It's very insightful of what kind of man David was before the WIN! He really worked hard to be where he is now and he definitely deserves to Be THE AMERICAN IDOL.
nadia_88
omgg!!! i luvv that!!! so funny smile.gif
dcscribe
i think that the old david, the guy who wrote that blog, peaks out from time to time and won't be gone forever replaced by buisness man. if you read the EW article he's callibg kyal a b!tch and giving the finger
James Padfoot (KN)
dcscribe, I agree. But I think he also gets that he has a responsibility imposed on him to be a role model, and so I'm thinking he reigns it in in public, but it comes off the moment he is just with the guys, or just chilling with (older) fans.

dc4beth, i agree, he really is. and you're welcome.

nadia, the man has a rocking sense of humor. hope he never loses it. =)
James Padfoot (KN)
Bump for anyone who hasn't seen.

On a note, his personal myspace has now been taken down, so you're not going to find it there. Yay for archives.

ETA: Mods, pin please?
davidcookfan08
love the blog for cookie laugh.gif
Avid4David
These postings are fascinating! A little mini portrait of our boy before the tidal wave hit him, and he hit us like, well, a tidal wave. Yes, he comes off like "a 20 something normal everyday dude," but one with enormous musical talents. Thanks so much for posting this.
alyycook
Thanks for bumping this thread! I was looking for this the other day but gave up when I couldn't find it.
I love reading his pre-idol blogs over and over.
dcfanforever
Thanks for posting this again. I had read this before on his myspace page. Someone needs to pin this thread...Travis or Scott, are you guys out there?

Interesting...that at some point he stops signing as ~David and signs as ~D...wonder why? Also, even back then you can see a bit of his teasing, his sense of humor, his kindness and appreciation showing through those posts. He was a struggling musician but you can see how much he related to his fans, appreciated their input, and wanted to keep them up to date.

Interesting that his last post is from November of 2007...not too long before start of Season 7 of American Idol. Little did he know then how his life would change...probably thought at that point that he wouldn't be gone for long and could come back and finish that 2nd album.
James Padfoot (KN)
dcfanforever - Probably because it's a PITA to keep typing in your name. Haha. His blog shows an awesome sense of humor and reality. It's kinda sad that is publicly censored by tptb and david himself, because of the responsibity of being a public icon. eta: Actually, auditions were in July/August. He already knew he'd made it to Hollywood week, if not through it. He just couldn't say it. They sign contracts that forbid them from exposing that fact.

and everyone is welcome for the bumps and posting. =)

DAVID NEWS : April 4, 2006
So, I finished the album artwork for my debut album, "Analog Heart". I'm putting it in the mail tomorrow afternoon, and so I should have them in hand, ready to roll by next month.
I can say with certainty that the album will be on sale through CDBaby.com, as well as on iTunes beginning next month, so for those of you who won't be seeing me in person, but want your fix o' the Dave, Be on the look out for that. Also, I am trying to get a website up, so that this myspace page will merely be a supplementary site. Anyone want to do that for me?
Hope everything is great we're you're at. I am extremely proud of this album. I've never worked so hard on anything before in my life, and hopefully it shows. I look forward to getting out and playing some shows for all of you, in hopes that you'll love it, run and tell your friends, and bring them the next time.
Thank you all for your support over the last 10 years, whether it was just on here, or through Axium or MWK. Let's keep this thing moving forward, shall we?

~David

Just your garden-variety, everyday update...
So...I started doing some pre-production on some new songs tonight. Got one completely mapped out. The working title is "A Daily AntheM" (yes, the letter capitalization has some importance.smile.gif ) Lots o' work to be done, but given that a new song from the David Cook camp hasn't been unveiled since the album release, I figured it to be relatively important. Important enough to let you in on, anyway....
hope all is well with you and yours.

New Material... just for you...
I'm in the studio right now beginning production on a new David Cook album. I know, I know...I've barely given "Analog Heart" time to breathe... This new album will take a while. The first three songs I'm tracking are called "A Daily AntheM", "Chandelier", and "The Downfall". I'm very excited about the new stuff, so you may be able to hear one or two of these new songs at a live show...hint, hint.

Take care, monkeys.
