It’s great to see how a season of Idol unfolds. Who would have thought at the beginning of this season we would end up with this result? And even more surprising is who would have thought we would be this pleased?

For me Season 7 was my favorite. I will always maintain that there was more talent this season than any previous season by a long shot. Call me a square or deluded but it was easily my favorite. There were only a few disappointments versus many enjoyable moments. I’ll reveal all of both in our “Season that Was” article. Two of the most enjoyable moments were the last two nights of Idol; The best final and finale ever. Many would say the season two final was best but I will disagree and Clay was my favorite male singer til this year. The thing I didn’t like about that final was Clay and Ruben only sang two songs and I didn’t like either of Ruben songs. I really liked both of Clay’s. I couldn’t stand the choir backing up the guys that year either.

This season I loved all three songs in the final by both contestants and they sang them perfectly. This is exactly what we should expect from the final two contestants every year. Seasons 8 through 100 have a final that will be very difficult to live up to. In fact the subsequent seasons themselves will have the same problem.

As for David Cook; we have a winner that is going to be a winner. The winning Idol slump has ended. In a season so loaded with absolutely magnificent talent, David Cook has risen to the top. I’ll put David Cook up against any season winner (or 2nd/ 4th place finishers) and he will not pale. I’ll even put this season’s runner up against any other. For David Cook to win in this season means much more than in seasons past and it will be proven as time passes.

Throughout this season David and David never really stumbled and neither ever visited the dreaded bottom 3. A first ever in this competition. But David Cook shone so brightly every night, the final seemed his destination early on. From the night he sang “Hello” it was evident he would be around a long time. All season, he was constantly great and more importantly, consistently original. In a season so talent laden, David Cook always stood out. He took the crown and deserved to.

During Mariah Carey week David got the only Randy standing O of the season. In fact it was the only Randy standing O in the last 3 seasons. The last one I can remember was when Anwar got one for “Wonderful World” season 4. The same night Simon proclaimed this performance the emergence from karaoke hell. There is no doubt David Cook will be a major success. This is me giving David a standing O. I can not wait to buy his CD.

David’s winning single “This Is the Time of My Life” is a permanent fixture in my library and should be in yours. I love the song. (You can buy it by clicking the iTunes ad at the left. I did) It is, in my opinion, the best Idol winning single ever. (American) If you go to iTunes and look at the number of comments (1729 to this point) it is by far the most for any song or contestant this year. In fact I loved all three original songs: David A.’s “In This Moment” along with David C’s. “Dream Big” and “This Is the Time of My Life”. I listened to all the songs in the songwriter’s competition and liked quite s few of them but once the guys sang their versions of the songs I finally got sold on them. I hope the songwriting competition stays as a permanent fixture on the show.

Congratulations David Cook. You had us at “Hello”.

Is it season 8 yet?

I couldn't agree more. This is indeed the best season for me, and my personal favorite for that matter.

David Cook is really meant for Superstardom. Can't also wait for his Album.

I love how we all say DC had us at "Hello." He mentioned the other day that it was then that he let down the "wall" between him and the audience due to Simon's critique of the previous performance. Isn't it amazing how he's connected with us since?
