how can anyone deny this man is true human being?? He keeps doing things like this and it melts my heart and makes me love him even more
American IdolDavid Cook Visits Luke Menard in the Hospital
Preparing for the American Idol finale means long hours and hard work. But days before David Cook was declared the season seven winner, he dropped everything to visit with fellow top 24 contestant Luke Menard in a Los Angeles hospital.
Menard, 29, was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
“I love Luke and I just wanted to show up and make sure that he understood that I love him and know that if there’s anything I can do for him and his wife, sign me up, you know?” “Luke, Michael Johns, Jason Yeager and myself, we kind of buddy-ed up one day at Hollywood week,” Cook explains. “We called ourselves the four horsemen. Any time one of your own is going through something as horrible as that, it makes everything else seem a little bit insignificant.
“Cancer,” Cook says, “is a very big part of my existence.” Cook’s older brother Adam has been battling brain cancer for ten years. “I’m excited to be put in [the spotlight] where I can hopefully do something to help other people.”

I think it says so much about David that in the middle of rehearsing for the big finale he took the time to go see his friend in the hospital (I read that Carly and he went together). This is the friend he made during Hollywood week, that didn't make it until the top 12, so they only knew each other for, what, 3-4 weeks? How many of us develop that level of friendship in just 4 weeks? Obviously David takes the time to get to know everyone he meets (remember him taking that quiz in the limo?) and does genuinely care for them.
My heart goes out to Luke, I know what he is going through. My husband had Hodgkins Lymphoma in 1995. It is the cancer you want to have, if you had to choose; it is the easiest to treat and is one of the few cancers considered curable. Thirteen years and three kids later, he is still perfectly healthy.

He is just so fantastic! Truly an amazingly decent human being!
Cancer is an all too familiar part of my existence as well....i wish I had never even heard of it....

To have to stand by and watch someone that you love be diagnosed with this truly heinous disease and watch them struggle to live each day is truly devastating to the spirit....

He makes me cry. I swear i've never heard of such a kind, caring, wonderful sweet man. I am beginning to think he's not human at all, but a super computer from the future come back in time to save the world.
I love David Cook. I am in no way IN love, i know my limits here, but I love him.

I've said from the very beginning that David has a kind gentle spirit and he continues to prove that to all of us by simply being himself. I may never meet him face to face, yet I feel that I'm a better person for knowing him and being a part of his journey!
My thoughts & prayers are with Luke, Adam and their families.

You know, I love seeing people LOVING others.
It's something I think isn't expressed much lately.
CARING ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE.
You know, Pierre from Simple Plan, wrote a song called "SAVE YOU"
it was for his brother who was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor, he had to go be put in seclusion for months, and when pierre went to see him he had to wear a certain outfit, and he said that it was so hard for him to even go into that room. and that it was hard to recognize his brother. and so hard. (he's doing well now completely recovered.)
but... here's the words to the song.
Take a breath
I pull myself together
Just another step
Until I reach the door
You'll never know the way
It tears me up inside to see you
I wish that I could tell you something
And take it all away
Sometimes I wish I could save you
And there's so many things that I want you to know
I won't give up 'til it's over
If it takes you forever
I want you to know
When I hear your voice
It's drowning into whispers
You're just skin and bones
There's nothing left to take
No matter what I do
I can't make you feel better
If only I could find the answer
To help me understand
Sometimes I wish I could save you
And there's so many things that I want you to know
I won't give up 'til it's over
If it takes you forever
I want you to know that
If you fall, stumble down
I'll pick you up off the ground
If you lose faith in you
I'll give you strength to pull through
Tell me you won't give up
Cause I'll be waiting if you fall
You know I'll be there for you
If only I could find the answer
To take it all away
Sometimes I wish I could save you
And there's so many things that I want you to know
I won't give up 'til it's over
If it takes you forever
I want you to know
I wish I could save you
I want you to know
I wish I could save you
