If you only have it once, you might consider buying it again wink.gif

I'm going to get shot for saying this I'm sure, but Viva la Vida is a great song! I think part of the problem is that Time of My Life is offered up on this site for people to download for free, when they need to be buying it to show as much support for David as possible.

But as a huge Coldplay fan, I can't complain that Viva la Vida is #1, better than say Miley Cyrus or something beating him out. smile.gif

It was bound to happen and as great at David is, the song has a lyric about a magical rainbow for goodness sake! He's still the iTunes king with 17 songs on the charts and 1 million total downloads.

Exactly! lol It wasn't going to stay at #1 there forever. The fact that it had been in the #1 spot for almost a week is very impressive. smile.gif

Oh and guess what? You can pre-order David's album on Amazon and sign up for a release notice.

While I think that the bigger problem is that TOML is only available for downloads (no physical copies when I've seen reports that 80% of the public still buys CDs), I agree that it would sell better if people actually bought it (wow, that sounded too obvious).

There's no way for me to say this without preaching. If you like the song, please buy it. Save the dowloads for what's unavailable for purchase (ie: international fans who don't have a friend's US address to set up an iTunes acct with, unreleased performances, etc.).

But c'mon guys, it's his first single and it's only 99 cents...some people spent more than that on a texting plan to get him the win. Only the legal downloads will get him to gold/platinum status.

Here's what I do -- I bought it on Itunes AND downloaded it from here TOO. Why? Because I wanted to show my support of DC (He gets a cut of that 99cents ya know) by purchasing it. However, my mp3 player and my phone only play mp3 format so anything I buy from iTunes won't work. I use the mp3 download from here to actually put on my mp3 players and my phone. I use itunes to burn cd's.

I really appreciate the downloads being available here (really, really REALLY) but I also purchase them 'cause I feel it's right and helps him out.

To be honest, Jordin made it to platinum status with her first 2 singles but not with This Is My Now. In fact, this song is doing so much better airplay wise than that song ever did! LOL I have to say I think the opposite is true about buying. Because of i-Tunes, I think more people are buying downloads than purchasing albums. They can go in for 0.99 and purchase the songs they want if they don't want the entire album. This is why you don't see Gold and Platinum certifications as often as you used to. If this song goes Gold, I'll be happy about it. I wish there were more of a crackdown on illegal downloading of music. Yes, I know probably most of us have done this at one time or another, I did at one point, but it does cheat the artist.

I know all about i-Tunes being fickle when it comes to some of the stuff you buy and download not working properly. LOL I'm sure people that can't use i-Tunes are doing the best they can and I can't fault people who aren't able to use it but I agree with you about why we purchase the music. smile.gif

I found the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) reference for my numbers: http://76.74.24.142/44510E63-7B5E-5F42-DA74-349B51EDCE0F.pdf

In 2007, full length CD's accounted for 82% of music sales
Music downloads accounted for 11.2%
Singles (all types) were 2.4%

Granted that trends can change rapidly in a year...but the success of this single bodes well for his future album.

Also, notice that Rock holds 32% of marketshare while Pop (popular?) music holds 10.7%...I hope RCA is watching this!

The mp3 version of TOML is available for purchase on Amazon. Amazon downloads are not the same format as iTunes. One reason I prefer them!

Right...the amazon downloads are not restrictive like iTunes (where you have to use their software). I was happy that AH was on amazon, b/c it forced me to learn about their product wink.gif
