Lordy mercy! I was beginning to think I was the only fella around these parts . . . not that there's anything wrong with that . . . . dry.gif

While not as erudite as young David, I have been a "WordNerd" most of my (mumble, mumble) years. The evening David revealed his "secret" and used that particular sobriquet, I recognized a kindred spirit. His performance of "Hello" solidified my "fanman" status, and from that point forward I was pulling for Cook by hook or by crook.

Admittedly, I am . . . well . . . more advanced in years (and have more testosterone) than the majority of his fans. Nonetheless, I enjoy his talent, appreciate his sense of humor and affability, and greatly respect his tremendous generosity of spirit.

This Cook kid is going places! smile.gif

Well, I'm not a rabid Roll-Tider, but you bet we'll have something to talk about.

I'm actually using the geographic "Bama" rather than a reference to THE University thereof. Anyway, I bet DC could sing the hell out of Rocky Top - right?
BamaCook
Does that mean you are a Barner, BWN? laugh.gif

There are more guys on here than we think, bro!! Welcome aboard. cool.gif

Indeed he could. I believe he's a Kansas Jayhawk fan albeit probably not to the level I bleed the O&W. We're supposed to start a series in basketball with 'em this coming season...start at KU then play in Knoxville. Should be fun. DC and his brother should come to Rocky Top and perform. tongue.gif

Never can tell - they just might do that.

Not to perpetuate a stereotype or anything, I wonder how he'd do w/ Freebird? Never mind - the boy could sing a COOKbook . . . hell, at least I didn't say phonebook, right? wink.gif

Thanks, Karla. I tend to use colloquialisms quite a bit. Dunno about "the" male view but I surely do believe the kid is amazing. I mentioned in my initial post several things I appreciate about DC. I was reading a post earlier this evening addressing the potential impact of his positivity on his fans and the individuals with whom we come in contact - sort of a "pay it forward" phenomenon.

Anything - or in this case anyone - reminding us with words but more importantly by example to treat other folks the way we want to be treated is needed very much in this world today.

Good deal, BC. Van Tiffin - my mind automatically goes to Iron Bowl '85 - "The Kick."

Small world, right? Checked your profile by the way - dude, we have the same b'day. What the odds of that? Pretty odd odds I would say.

The Kick is in my sig, BWN. I still have that game on VHS, and watch it every once in a while. He sure made Red Bay proud!!

Welcome Bama:

So glad more guys are showing up. I felt like I was out here twisting in the wind all by my lonesome for a couple of weeks!

Am also glad you appreciate the word nerd issue. As a writer, I was really heartened by David's "admission" about crossword puzzles and vocabulary, etc. A lot of young people might follow David's example now, and it will only enrich their lives--and their future careers.

Funny, how wrong Simon got David a few times. Saying the word nerd thing wasn't cool for a rocker, and that he had no charisma. Geez. Maybe though, the charisma complaint is what spurred David to be more open and emotional on stage, hence his groundbreaking performance of "Hello." In fairness Simon did say some awesome things about him too, I guess.

Anyway welcome Bama.

Christopher

Love the fact that you males are being brave! Welcome aboard!

Another fan from 'Bama! I just registered myself and this was practically the first thing I saw. Welcome! smile.gif

I also think it's nice to get the male perspective on David. My stepfather and brother (who is David's age) both really like him too and were pulling for him to win.

Hey, Sister StarrySkies Surprise, thanks so much for the warm welcome. And welcome, welcome, welcome to you, too, my friend.

With regard to my perspective - as Simon said occasionally, "It's just an opinion." I think the kid is well-grounded and has a brilliant future ahead of him.

G'night, sister.

Hey there, Christopher. Yeah, I figger a bit of testosterone ought not to hurt these ladyfolk who abound here in this forum.

I work with young people in my profession, many of whom are outstanding writers. DC's character certainly has the potential to influence people of all ages. One young lady actually broached the topic of DC's "wordnerdiness" with me in the course of a discussion of allusion and word choice in one of her pieces. I thought that was pure-dee spectacular.

Thanks again, Brotherman.

Thanks, Nicole Marie!

Incidentally, and this is intended for the entire welcome wagon from the past couple days, I'm STILL waiting on that dang muffin basket! As Adlai Stevenson once promulgated, "Man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them."

Hi Jenn, I'm from Tuscaloosa originally but live in Huntsville. What part of the state are you in? Are you going to the concert?

Welcome from an A.U. graduate! War Eagle!

More testosterone around here to balance us crazy fangirls is a good thing. We all have one thing in common though - a love for David and his music!
