This letter is article is written in the Oklahoman by someone who knew David personally in those days before AI. I found it refreshing... kind of a glimpse at the reality of his past..

That was so sweet, and it really showed that no one can really say one bad thing about him. He's a genuine guy, it shows through to the public eye, to his fans and it's announced by so many people just how incredible he is. I'm glad he's finally getting the recognition he truly, truly deserves.

thanks for posting this, i think this is one of my favorite reads on DC!....i am so happy to know that bar owners , friends etc etc......had the faith in David all this time..and i knew DC is a humble, great guy, you cant fake that...and David doesnt..cant wait to see David in August...and so cant wait for his new CD.. or should i say alot of his new CD'S to come out!...cant wait until he sells out concerts, and wins awards! yep David, you paid your dues, and you deserve to be #1 on the charts, you worked for it, and still you are a GREAT GUY! you cant find to many people in the music world these days that are humble, and kind, PLUS have half the Talent DC has...ROCK ON DAVID!

Wow, I am literally wiping tears away after that one. I hope those people in the bar that night and on many other nights realize what a diamond in the rough they saw. What jerk made $325 on his CD? I would never give it up! What a Cinderella story his is. Truly represents what American Idol was meant to bring to us-LOVE YOU EVEN MORE DAVID COOK!!

Aww, thank you for posting that. It's so nice to hear stories like that from people who knew him before Idol. It really does seem like he's a genuine guy and truly humbled by everything that has happened to him, that's why I'm so happy for him. He really deserves this. He's been working so hard since he was what, 15-years-old, to get to this point. I just hope it pays off when his album comes out, which I think it will. I mean, he's already making chart history by setting records, that's pretty big compared to where he was when he was in that bar the guy was talking about.

I wonder what those people who saw him play at the bar thought when he ended up on AI. I would have been so excited!
As for someone making that kind of money off the CD...shame on him and also shame on the person who purchased it. That's rediculous. David gets nothing from that sale. I hate it when people make money off of others hard work.

I'm not sure if the one that guy was talking about is the one, but there WAS one that was being sold on eBay and the money was being donated to the American Cancer Society. I think it was Danielle, the girl selling the "David Cook Fans Unite Against Cancer" bracelets for the ACS that mentioned that one of his friends in Tulsa was selling it for the donation for ACS.
If it WASN'T the one being sold for the donation, then I totally agree with you. It's just like the Axium albums that are being sold on eBay for those kinds of prices.

But by the end of Cook's set, he'd won them all over.
That's exactly what he did to me. He keeps likening his weekly performances on AI to a set list. He nearly had me at "Hello" but it took a while longer. Two thirds into that set list, I was Hooked on Cook.
I will honestly say I wasn't a fan from the beginning. I really really liked Chikeze, especially when he blew the roof off the place during the first Lennon/McCartney week. I belong to another forum that had an Idol thread; it's a pretty snarky bunch over there and they started out calling DC "combover" and "stalker". So at least in the circles I frequented, there didn't seem to be much love for the guy.
Still, even that snarky bunch was won over by the time he performed "All I Really Need." Of course, by then he had that great new hairstyle.
So yeah, I am humbled. And won over.

It's nice to see other people's perspectives
before idol. Seems like nothing has changed, David has and will stay true to himself.

Thanks for posting this! What a great article, and it just reinforces what most of us have known all along . . . .
David has worked *so* hard for this. He has done the play-a-gig-any-gig thing, bankrolled his own recordings, and hustled to make this happen. He deserves it probably more so than any other AI winner, imo. I love when he says in interviews, "I've been doing this for ten years." Because he really has toiled away to make his dream come true.

What a touching story. It really shows how much David cares about his music and the faith he has in it. Imagine him handing out a CD, hoping someone would maybe play it on the radio, and now his success on the charts is being compared to the Beatles. How much more fantastic can a Cinderella story get?
Thanks so much for this link, this was a wonderfully revealing look at this remarkable young man.

Thanks for the article, nice anecdote on the pre-idol DC. I hope that person selling Analog Heart on EBay for such an exorbitant amount gives the profit to DC, LOL, like that would ever happen...greedy ba***
