I thought this would be a pretty fun idea for a topic - horror stories from people who HAVE auditioned or people who still want to. I also thought this would be a place to talk about up and coming news for auditions as I'm considering it this year (I don't have any expectations, just to say I did it!).
kookyC
i went with my friend for season 6 cuz she wanted to audition and it was such a long day and i was bored as hell but i went to support her.
annie702
Mad props to those people who seriously auditioned for this show.
Having never followed the show this closely, I had no idea that the process was so demanding.
denise_kc
I actually was going to audition 2 years ago, until I learned the age cutoff was 29. I was 30. sad.gif But I'm not sure I'd be up to the grueling process anyways. laugh.gif
jlp1
My daughter tried out last season! It was interesting that's for sure! After that it is a little hard for me to watch the audition shows because the arenas are full of people that can sing but yet they take just about anyone that has a gimmick or sings really badly.... Of course I guess this is "reality" TV. Not that she had any regrets! She is majoring in music business with a minor for voice and for one of her finals she had to do a write up for the cost of promoting a new artist. She used DC as her artist. She got an A!!!!

Any way for anyone that wants to try out, I say go for it. What do you have to lose!!!
miss.gee
when they actually start audition for season 8?? i don't have any guts to try-out Indonesian Idol biggrin.gif

she probably did. if she did lucky for her.

This is the first year that i can audition for this show and i would love to but at the same time i know that i would never make it so . . .
Magnetic Cheese!
I've always wanted to audition, just to see what it's like, you know? But I'm too young, and I don't really know if my voice is actually that good.
BethRiot
I never want to audition and I never have...

I know I can't sing unlike the other people

I'm seriously considering auditioning for next season. I'm scared to death, but I think I might actually do it
AzRockGirl
Well, if any of you have seen my posts, I guess I don't really have to say that I am going to the auditions this summer. I just can't wait to find out when they are, I am so excited that I can't stand it now. Also I am CRAZY nervous. I have auditioned for things before (theater, dance, vocally) but nothing of this magnitude. My tummy is getting queasy already.

There are rumors they will be holding auditions in my home state this year, and if that's the case, it will make things a million times easier for me. But, I will travel this year, even though gas prices will be astronomical by that point.
AnnaLouise
If auditions aren't held in SoCal, I might be tempted to come out to AZ or NV. But I don't know yet. I just know that I absolutely have to this year, even if I get turned away the second they look at me/hear me. Good luck!
cookielust
what's the age limit? i'm turning 28 this year and i don't think i can audition in time for season 8 so maybe season 9? am i gonna be too old?
Miss Nickie
I auditioned for Pop Idol back in 2001 and got to their version of Hollywood, was booted soon after sad.gif

Then I auditioned for Season 5 and got to the table before the judges and was told that I wasn't what they were looking for. I understand that I'm not a great singer, but I thought I had a shot because I could at least sing somewhat decent. Turns out that I wasn't pretty enough/ stupid enough/ delusional enough/ crazy enough.

It's really long, hard and annoying. You meet some of the most delusional people who cannot sing to save their life and also some of the nicest.

What's the cut off date? I MIGHT try again this year smile.gif
Jessie Ann
I don't mind auditioning... hehe
StephyDee
Haha everyone that knows me here KNOWS I wanna try out for AI...I've posted a few songs I've sung on here, and apparently people think I'm good, so....yeah! happy.gif

A whole bunch of us wanna take a road trip to go try out and such....and I'm completely excited about the idea....just to be able to go, you know? heehee

When my daughter auditioned there were all of these people with yellow AI t-shirts on that were working there. Well the next night I was at the bar tongue.gif and as we were leaving I saw this woman in one of those t-shirts so I asked her if she was working there and she said yes. I asked her a bunch of questions and some she could not answer but she did say that she thought that every table was looking for something different, which is why they tell you if you don't make it in one city to go to another to try out. I think that this is pretty much true..... My daughter actually ended up auditioning at Nigel Lythgoe's table. She said he seemed crabby! laugh.gif

kaliah
I would never audition for the show because I know I can't sing... tongue.gif
But those who can, and even those who think they can, should give it a shot. You never know. wink.gif

Yeah I know. I've heard that a lot of people got turned away from the Chicago auditions, so I'm hoping they come near here again. Heck if they came to this city that would save me a bunch of travel...I mean they've done Chicago, Minneapolis, Omaha, St. Louis and Detroit. It's time to hit Milwaukee, AI people! biggrin.gif
Lynx0526
I'm...honestly considering...

I think I have a pretty good voice, but I'm not sure if it's quite there. Like, I think I have a pretty good chance at getting past the preliminary auditions, but I dno if my voice is quite ready enough to make it past hollywood...

*sighs* suuuch a dilemma. And then there's school to think about (i'm already enrolled/registered for classes/have paid the deposit for Northeastern's fall semester).

hmm...what do you guys think? Should I go for it?

As for me, I auditioned for Popstars Canada (it was before Idol came along) and unfortunately didn't get very far! Haha, probably a good thing.

i`m going audition year 2010-2015 laugh.gif, cause i`m from finland and i have to get greencard before that....

I'm thinking of this idea, too.. During the auditions of AI7. Haha. But, I'm from the Philippines and not an American Citizen.. so how can I be the next AMERICAN idol for that. Maybe.. I should shift citizenship then? Haha. lol. laugh.gif

But, if ever I'm going to take a risk on this very scary situation.. I'll do my very best to have a golden ticket. I want to hold one, even for just 5 seconds. I want to sing to Simon (my crush, too!). Maybe, I can make a different arrangement for "We're Brothers Forever" of Renaldo Lapuz.. since, he too is a Filipino. wink.gif
pirate skittles!
laugh.gif I seriously considered it.

I think I have the thick skin to do it, buut it sucks that I don't live in America.

LOL! XD

ETA! AHAHAHA! OH MY GOD, THEA!

That would be... HILARIOUS! XD

Make the song.. power ballad-ie! laugh.gif

Hmm, here's one: if you're to audition (this goes to everyone--I guess, and anyone who actually thought of it or already did it) what song will you sing? biggrin.gif

I would've probably singed Sunday Morning by Maroon 5.

I agree with that not-destined-to-be-living-in-America thing! argh-ful! angry.gif

(wih! hails to the ETA queen! yey! happy.gif)

Haha. ballad? hmmmm. interesting! I'll be working on that very soon! haha. lol. laugh.gif or.. maybe a rock one? hmmmm. rolleyes.gif

Sunday Morning! Waw! ^^
Mine would probably be.. (as I've said) "We're Brothers Forever" (haha. but with different arrangements! laugh.gif) or Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin. or.. maybe some other songs. still don't know. unsure.gif

My husband and I are thirty-something... one of the reasons I fell for him in our early twenties is his voice. I just have this thing for handsome, talented, singing manly men!! He listens to all types of music but sings country music (he has that smooth, velvety voice ala Brooks and Dunn/George Straight/Randy Travis).

When we were first married (before kids), he would win singing and karaoke contests all over the place in Raleigh, NC... I remember this one African American man in Chi Chi's bar tell Lawrence after he sang... "Man, you need to get the f**k to Nashville!" It was so funny!

Well, you know.... responsibility, job, bills, kids... we never quite ended up in Nashville.

ANYWAY, long story long, we have a local talent competition in our town... "Lilburn Idol." Lawrence has registered and will be auditioning next week! I jokingly told him, "You may get to be my new man crush!"

I'll let you guys know how it goes!

Alicia_R
Hi. I'm a singer (not pro, of course), but I do local performances. right now, I'm having voice lessons to spice up my voice, so to speak. When I am 17, I plan to go and audition for american idol. Next year, I'm auditioning for America's got talent (I'm dancing), but can't audition for idol until i'm 17 for money reasons.... It'll be awesome!!!

yes, you should! It wouldn't hurt trying. You can't be that bad. Not, at least, that guy who sang a madonna song in 2. lol, that was horrid! LOL. But you should, if your good, i'll vote for you. :-)

True...that is, IF the show's still running, and IF it's still worth it, in terms of credibility and whatnot...LOL rolleyes.gif
WordNerdsUnite
I wanted to audition since Season 1, but at the time the cut off was 26 (I think) and I was too old... then they increased it to 29 and I was still too old...LOLOLOL. Now I am ancient (at 36), but I think I am going to audition for America's Got Talent instead smile.gif I have been taking voice lessons since I was 12, so I know I can sing, but confidence on stage was a big issue for me unless I was acting in musical theatre... singing in character is easy for me, but just being ME on stage was always hard when I was younger...

My sisters auditioned this year in Philadelphia and made it to the second round of auditions on the first day... they didn't make it to Simon, Paula and Randy though sad.gif It was a long, grueling day of sitting there doing nothing for most of it... and having to watch the FREAK SHOWS dressed in drag get through while people with actual talent were being sent home...
CarlinJ83
um i think about goin, but then again i dont like peformin in front of lotta people, but i would like to get a reaction simon though.

I want to, but the thing is, I hold no confidence in my voice and whatnot. I know that DC is inspiring me in a lot of ways but I'm still scared as heck. I think I sing okay, but I'm not really all that special. No one would pick me, so what's the point, kind of.
Stacey81
I'd like to audition, but I'm not a hottie! I'd liken my vocal ability to Brooke White's... but I'm not as folky. I would love to try out before I get too old! When do we usually find out when and where the auditions are? I'd have to take some time off of work. Anyone from Chicago looking to roadtrip?!

applesause
Is there anyone who knows what the whole process is? I have read on here that you sing twice in the first day to the producers... only 5-10 seconds... and David said something about being with three or four other people at once (one being his brother....and so on. I would love it if someone who has gotten to hollywood good give me the run down on how it all works so I know what to expect going in...
AnnaLouise
The process is pretty cut and dry. Have to remember you're auditioning for a reality show more than a singing competition. Round 1 is a 10-20 second process in the big stadium in which the producers weed you in or out of the competition. If you make it through to that round, you go on to Round 2 a few weeks later (I think) and audition for the producers again, in which you perform an entire song, I think. If you make it through to that round, you go to Round 3 and audition for Simon, Paula, and Randy and usually make it on TV.
FutureMrsCookie87
I did for season 5 in Denver! It was a reeeeeally long day but I met some nice amazing people! None of us made it past the first round though. It was just awesome to be there and to realize I had the guts to do it. I know I'm not the best singer, but I am decent and just not experienced enough. The closest I can get to american idol now is by playing the karaoke game lol. I won that 5 times. lol.
00WordNerd
I would like to audition. I'm not old enough I'm 14 almost 15 but I won't be able to audition until season 11 if it lasts that long which I'm sure it will. It sucks that I have to wait so long because my birthday is in November. They should make the age 15 :]
CookieHoney
I was already too old to audition when Kelly Clarkson won (and still too old when they raised the age limit in Season 4), but if they had auditions back when I was eligible, I think I might have done it. Of course, I probably would have gotten my sorry arse laughed out of the first round. laugh.gif
luvindc
I'm thinking about auditioning. I've done local singing competitions, done singing talent shows when i was in high school. I also sing at my church. so i don't know what i want at this point.
kiera_cookie_lover
i am auditioning in 2 years. i cant wait!! i've wanted to audition forever!!!!! being on american idol has been my dream since the show started!!!!!
Cookieschick
For those auditioning/thinking about it..I say go for it!In the words of my a wise man(and another one of passions Jon Bon Jovi),here's some amazing quotes from him...

"Passion + Persistence= Possibility"

"each one of you has something no one else has or has ever had your fingerprints, your brain your heart.Be unique-stand out make noise make someone notice. That's the power of individuals."

"Believe in love.Believe in magic.Hell believe in Santa Clause.Believe in one another.Believe in yourself.Believe in your dreams,If you don't,who will?"

My advice would be to practice your little butt off and then go take the chance an audition,if ya don't make it then you ain't any worse off then you were before and if you do make it well then your in for an amazing adventure. You can't win till your not afraid to lose and life is too short to not take chances and to try making your dreams come true.Good luck to all and keep us posted!
