Men really, really don't get it do they? Simon C thought the word nerd confession would turn us off, instead it just made David even more attractive to us, especially with Hello following immediately after, Memo to the men of this world, women actually find highly intelligent men who aren't afraid to show it extremely sexy. Now Nigel wants more personality when he sings, excuse me, any more personality and mic fondling and the lot of us will expire - part of the reason we find David so god damm intoxicating is the personality he projects on stage, the CFM stare, the fondling, the half smile/smirk, believe me, any more 'personality' and the men in white coats will be coming to take me away. There's many reasons why David managed to seduce women of all ages, and the personality he projects on stage is a huge part of it.

I'd just read that phrase CFM eyes in another article the other day and it hit me like a ton of bricks that it was the perfect way to describe watching David sing. Watching him feels like he's making love to the camera with his eyes! And those of us watching are sure it's just for us. If he had any more personality I'd be leaving my husband and camping out on his doorstep! You're right men just don't get it.
cookie-head
i saw that the other day and thought..what is HE talking about? i thought it was the jerkiest thing to say
david cook has TONS of personality and i believe it is a large part of why he won the competition..
he has the whole package and saying he needs a personality makes nigel sound somewhat resentful or
jealous or just plain DUMB.. dry.gif

Says who that Lythgoe's opinion is the only one that counts.

I say, let's turn all this into a positive energy. I've created a thread in the general forum where you can post why YOU think David has an awesome and dynamic personality.

http://www.david-cook.org/index.php?showtopic=6819

I started that thread so that, in case David is lurking around here, he might see hundreds of other people's opinions contrary to one.

I can't promise anything, but since I am going to the Idol Tour in NY in August, I will print out all your posts in that thread, and if God help me that I actually see him in some meet and greet before or after the show, I will give the print outs to him.

And anyone else attending the tour can do the same.

Talking as a Brit, Simon Cowell and Nigel Lythgoe are really embarassing sometimes. The trouble is they're not interested in cool or interesting, they are just interested in the bottom line. Someone like David Archuleta fits in with their middle of the road, easy to market, singy a syrupy ballad and watch the bucks roll in ideal far more than Cookie does.

Simon Cowell is not held in the same esteem over here that he seems to be in the US, although I could be wrong. We tend to think that he's a bit of a jerk with terrible taste in music, he'll always go for the mainstream, very pop, cute boy or girl and he always misses the edgy or single market person. He doesn't seem to see the angles for crossover or maybe he just doesn't want his company to put the work in when they have a format that will do his selling for him.

You also have to remember they're middle aged men. What do they know about what will appeal to the paying public? They completely missed the subtleties of David Cook's personality that make him so fascinating. He has so many diverse and quirky aspects to him that just make us melt. He's also effortlessly cool. If you wrote down his personality traits on a piece of paper or tried to explain his appeal to someone who has never seen him, he sounds very geeky, but his geekiness and ability to laugh at that nerd side of him is what makes him so gorgeous (his looks don't hurt of course but there are thousands of beautiful-looking men in the world that just seem to have had a personality bypass and so are unattractive because of that) . He's also not a try-hard which Simon and Nigel to a cerain extent both are.

I think the trouble is that David is really happy with who he is and where he has come from and so is very grounded. He also understands what is important in life and so can laugh at the absurdities and so he's not as easily manipulated as say David Archuleta or Syesha (who I think is desperate for fame) would be. He's not going to jump through their hoops or make terrible music just because they tell him to, he'll walk away first and go back to a life he obviously loved. Ultimately that's going to make for a better cd, I think, but 19/AI just don't seem to encourage independence and free thinking in their artists.

Wow, sorry, that turned into a bit of a ramble.

Ok, calm down everyone! Don't you see what's going on here. Nigel Lythgoe is the producer of AI and Pop Idol in the UK. He's got another season coming up and is worried about slipping ratings. He doesn't want people to think AI has peaked (not just in ratings, but in talent). In his mind, I think he feels its a good strategy is to deny the truth... because the reality is it's unlikely next season can top season 7 in terms of sheer talent, and that it's even going to be tough to equal it. As for David Cook, not only was he arguably (no argument in this forum of course!) the very best contestant and most deserving winner in AI history, but he may not ever be topped. Perhaps something close to equaled, but he just cannot be topped. So think about it. You're the producer and you've got another season coming up. Probably several more after that, since the "AI star" has quite a ways to go before burning out. I think Lythgoe is just trying to give viewers of future seasons some expectations... but what he doesn't know is that we don't buy his line. We're baffled and offended by it! But I think that's all it is. Trust me, behind the scenes, he's kissing the ground DC walks on because, the hard truth is that DC may actually have SAVED American Idol by helping deliver (with Archie) a spectacular and highly rated season finale and giving fans of the show a new sense of optimism that the whole thing isn't fixed and that the best contenstant can win.

Scott, you have a valid point. Many of the articles that I have read are about the producers being concerned about the rise in the age of their demographic. So this could be Nigels way of getting AI back in the news. What is the adage about publicity...There is no such thing as bad publicity. I for one will be back next year, just because I want to see if they can do it again, although it will take someone extraordinary to top this year.

I agree. Winner by 12 million votes. "Sexiest Idol Ever" in the magazines. His NEW boss, the guy who runs the MUSIC division at RCA raves about his performance and singing skills. Smashed Billboard's charts. Dominated Itunes downloads. Pam08, you're right. It's what I put in two other posts this morning... Nigel does this crap and he can't go out and "ruin" future seasons by declaring season 7 & DC to be the best of the best. Let it go. What other entertainers - especially those who've only been known to the masses for less than 6 months - have fan sites like this? Our support speaks volumes. Bet you this doesn't bother DC one bit. As confident as he is, his humility and modesty probably has him thinking he's overrated anyway!

I agree with you also, the best way that we can show that Nigel doesn't have a clue is to support David in his future endeavors and go to the magazine website and vote in the poll.

There's an aspect to that, and if they truly wanted to get rid of Cook for Archie, this would be a reason to do it. The only problem is that Cook got plenty of praise/pimping during the season (and despite what happened during the finale, Cowell *does* prefer Cook and has made that quite clear more than once).

The thing is that Fuller is pretty much 100% behind Cook and 19/RCA are putting a lot of effort into getting radio play for Cookie, so it's kind of inaccurate to say that AI isn't behind Cook. The bottom line is that they don't know if Archie's popularity will translate into record sales. So far, that's worked far better for Cook than for Archie, and Fuller (the guy who is actually responsible for promoting these guys and furthering their musical careers) seems way more stoked about Cook than Archie. (Compare their press releases. Archie's is *much* more low-key).

Besides, it's not like Nigel liked Archie's personality any better than Cook's.

I think in the end it's money that talks, and Cook will probably make them more money in the end. Will Archie's young fans stick around? Time will tell. Blake's didn't.

EXACTLY, YOU COULDN'T OF STATED IT ANY BETTER, I REALLY DON'T THINK MEN GET IT!!!
annie702
I like David's personality just fine, thank you.

If Nigel wants to criticize his stage presence/performance style, so be it...maybe David can pick some little pearl from it and get even better on stage...but give him that advice behind closed doors.

It seems kinda stupid to bash the guy who's making you mad money in the media.

What rubbish! Oh, Nigel is just jealous because he is ugly and talentless and David is hot, bubbles over with personality and charisma!

Nigel's wife probably thinks so too... rolleyes.gif

Has anyone ever noticed how many friends DC has on his myspace compared to Daughtry? Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Daughtry fan, but to compare personalities is like apples and bananas, not even close!

oh, well thank you for the answer

but that is rather disgusting, i'm glad i haven't been seeing that look or i wouldn't be as big of a fan of him.
i just like guys that aren't into selling themselves like that, but good news is that because i dont' see that look in his eyes i have no problem biggrin.gif !!

but if he did lick the mic. stand i would probably go into some sort of shock like 'what is he doing?' then i would start laughing and after that i would be like 'whoa!!! can i be that stand?!'

i have to admit when he first won and the 1st few inteviews he gave weren't the best like he was nervus or something but now like the last interview he gave was great he is getting so much better at it....he did great on jimmy kemel! i think he just has to get use to the idea that everybody loves him and not be so nervus or something! he said before he wasn't looking to get famous, so it can be hard sometimes to have that mindset from going from a unknnown almost to having millions of ppl wanting to know everything about u! but his interviews are getting great anf the my hero performce was ecellent so i don't think he has anything to worry about!

I think he will relax more with more interviews. He is being very careful what he says right now. But because he is from the midwest, they tend to be a little laid back....being in LA, he will pick up speed...give him time.

I am told he has a great sense of humor backstage...it will surface.
