Ok, calm down everyone! Don't you see what's going on here. Nigel Lythgoe is the producer of AI and Pop Idol in the UK. He's got another season coming up and is worried about slipping ratings. He doesn't want people to think AI has peaked (not just in ratings, but in talent). In his mind, I think he feels its a good strategy is to deny the truth... because the reality is it's unlikely next season can top season 7 in terms of sheer talent, and that it's even going to be tough to equal it. As for David Cook, not only was he arguably (no argument in this forum of course!) the very best contestant and most deserving winner in AI history, but he may not ever be topped. Perhaps something close to equaled, but he just cannot be topped. So think about it. You're the producer and you've got another season coming up. Probably several more after that, since the "AI star" has quite a ways to go before burning out. I think Lythgoe is just trying to give viewers of future seasons some expectations... but what he doesn't know is that we don't buy his line. We're baffled and offended by it! But I think that's all it is. Trust me, behind the scenes, he's kissing the ground DC walks on because, the hard truth is that DC may actually have SAVED American Idol by helping deliver (with Archie) a spectacular and highly rated season finale and giving fans of the show a new sense of optimism that the whole thing isn't fixed and that the best contenstant can win.
Scott, you have a valid point. Many of the articles that I have read are about the producers being concerned about the rise in the age of their demographic. So this could be Nigels way of getting AI back in the news. What is the adage about publicity...There is no such thing as bad publicity. I for one will be back next year, just because I want to see if they can do it again, although it will take someone extraordinary to top this year.

I agree. Winner by 12 million votes. "Sexiest Idol Ever" in the magazines. His NEW boss, the guy who runs the MUSIC division at RCA raves about his performance and singing skills. Smashed Billboard's charts. Dominated Itunes downloads. Pam08, you're right. It's what I put in two other posts this morning... Nigel does this crap and he can't go out and "ruin" future seasons by declaring season 7 & DC to be the best of the best. Let it go. What other entertainers - especially those who've only been known to the masses for less than 6 months - have fan sites like this? Our support speaks volumes. Bet you this doesn't bother DC one bit. As confident as he is, his humility and modesty probably has him thinking he's overrated anyway!
I agree with you also, the best way that we can show that Nigel doesn't have a clue is to support David in his future endeavors and go to the magazine website and vote in the poll.
