Hi Everyone -

The cost of the bracelets would probably be $6.50 or less depending on how many I order - that is why I am trying to get an idea of how many people are interested. The more I order, the bigger the discount.

For every bracelet sold, $2.00 of it will go to ACS in Adam's name. Again, this is dependent on the final cost of the bracelet.

They will say "Cook's Cougars" on the top part of it and "Hear Us Roar" on the bottom part of it. The color will probably be gold, but that isn't set in stone yet.

SO, please PM me with feedback or post here if you would be interested in ordering one.

Thank you again for your support.

i don't want to be a bummer here....but is there a way to do a fund that is specifially FOR adam? it is a well known fact that alot of the funds that go to the cancer society go to pay their high priced officers and employees...
sorry to say so but that is why - even as a cancer research advocate and donor- i don't support them but
others doing more legitimate research.... sorry if i am stepping on anyone's toes...
i don't mean to- but cancer is also a cause near to my heart as i have lost alot of my close family and my best
friend to it..amongst other friends etc...it has been many years for me of digging to find truthful information
about cancer...and the 'research' being done....and there is alot of misinformation 'out there'....
#1FaninAZ
ACS is the organization that has been chosen as the one this board is affiliated with and they even have their own "Word Nerd" page where donations can be made directly in Adam's and David's name on the ACS website. Please note: the donations will be made IN Adam's name not FOR Adam perse.

I am continuing with what is supported on this board by giving the proceeds from the bracelets I sell to this same organization.

I do agree with you about there being a lot of other great organizations out there and there is once in particular for children that I am also hoping to support by selling items very soon.

Thank you for your feedback and I hope the answered the reason "why" the proceeds are being made to who they are.

Thank you,

You're not being a bummer...but remember, this is our way of supporting the one we love, for the one he loves.

Otherwise...we'd be fan-tripping on the ACS board. wink.gif I'm not trying to be rude, and if it comes across that way, I'm sorry. It's definitely not my intention. As Simon would say..."Just and oppinion," So, It's all good! smile.gif

Just my two cents for what it's worth - Are some other organizations more efficient? Yes, especially some devoted to a particular cancer. Still, the ACS does meet the BBB standard for charitable organizations as to what percent goes to programs and what percent goes to administration so their spending is not out of line. I'm an ACS volunteer, and I know how hard they work to bring so many free support programs to cancer patients and their families. One nice service is a hotline (1-800-ACS-2345) you (whether patient, family member, caregiver, friend) can call for help/advice, and which is answered by an honest to goodness live person, including medical personnel, 24 hours a day/365 days of the year. I've also lost family/friends to cancer and have several close friends battling it. I think probably everyone has been touched by it in some way. I've been very impressed with what ACS offers so I'm happy to support them. I work with volunteers who are cancer survivors or volunteers whose loved ones were helped by ACS so that speaks well for at least the ACS office in my region. Still, there are so many worthy organizations out there to choose from so support the one you feel is right for you.

One more note - thanks to the present economy/gas prices, etc., donations are down so paid staff are going to start being laid off, and they'll be needing more and more volunteers. I'm sure this is true for any charitable organization. Ladies and Gents - Get involved! smile.gif

Since I am going to front the money for the wristbands, I need to get an insight as to how many people would be interested in ordering them so I don't get stuck with 1000 wristbands.

I could always just take orders first and then place the order but then it takes a lot longer for you to receive them.

So, if these were ordered, would you buy one?

Thank you,

i understand that...and in response to you and the other responses...i have been trying to contact david
about this topic....because there is information he should know and is now in a good position to help his
brother and alot of people....if i am able to get ahold of him i will pass it on and he can do as he sees fit
with it and hope he has an open mind about it...

yes other organizations can be more efficient but also doing more realistic research - in my and many
other people's opinions- who are of a different mindset with using drugs....so it is information that is
not known to most people unless one digs for it....honestly this is not really the place to discuss it and
if anyone is interested i would ask that you PM me and i will give you info...if you want it
sorry if i ruffled anyone's feathers...i am just hardcore into the facts about this disease and giving
people alternative information is hard to do because it is not 'in the news'....i do not mean to cause any trouble at all...
the people who work for ACS are very well -intentioned, good, concerned people and i understand that...the big
concern comes in at the core of the research being done...there is no implication on my part that the people
who work for them are doing anything but good....and i applaud them for their goodness...
#1FaninAZ
No worries - it's great that you have done your research and education is the key. There may be other organizations that I personally would choose to support but this is the one that has been chosen for now and so that is what I am going with. It's the most well known to everyone too so if I was to suggest another one, people may not be so willing to support it.

Let's get back to the original question that was posed to everyone - if I was to offer these wristbands, would you purchase one? I need to get some feedback before I spend my money to order them.

Thank you again for your support.

Hi Kathy. I grew up in a mountainous region where cougars were prevalent. They don't roar like a lion (although they are sometimes called mountain lions), they scream the most blood-letting, long drawn out, piercing, hair-raising, goose-bump inducing scream imaginable, especially during mating season (who can blame them!?). And, yes, it is only the female that screams like this; we have our reasons and are entitled! They also do a bit of growling, hissing and purring, but it is that screaming that kept me inside the house after nightfall without my mom having to say a word. I'm just saying.

Kathy-
I would love to purchase one of the bracelets. Would you like the money up front? I think we would all hate to see anyone stuck for all that! Where should we send it?
I'm a grandma of 5 (at 52) and some of this techy stuff gets by me (signatures etc.) but don't think that I am not as much of a fan as the rest of you!
Thanks for doing this, Kathy!

The problem is, if I wait to get a bunch of orders, it delays the production/shipping time. I want to have the bands in my posession and then take the orders - that way the wait won't be very long. But, the more I order, the bigger the discount.

So how about "Cook's Cougars" on the top and "We Scream for DC" on the back?

Would you all like that?

I'm still trying to determine a cougar adjective for myself, but in looking over the list I noticed that #104 was skipped. I'm just wondering if this was on purpose or just an oversight. I'm thinking of trying for #119 and I just want to be sure what letter it is. Thank you!

Oops! Just an oversight. But I think just I'll leave it instead of re-numbering since some people had requested certain numbers and others are using their cougar #'s in their signatures. So ask away based on what you see there!

Ok, folks, I've gotten some good ideas (thanks to Chris and Jenney!) re: our cougar numbers, etc. Chris suggested we use letters along with numbers...

What do you all think? I like the idea of being 'creative' with this group--I'm just not always very good at it! LOL

EDIT--THE COUGAR NAMES AND NUMBERS ARE LISTED IN POST #3 BELOW, UNDER JENNEY'S POST...

I had an idea this morning...I think we should give ourselves a 'special name'...ya know, there are "Cougars for Cook", but I'd like to do something that separates us (here on D-C.org) from the other cougars out there.

Sooo...if anyone has any ideas for an 'original name' for us, post it on here or PM me. I guess I'll take ideas for the next couple days, and then I'll come up with a poll this weekend (with, say, the most popular 5 ideas), and we'll choose our name!

Sound good???

Just select a number and word that you want and post it here, and I'll add it to the list in post #3 on the first page.
