Okay, I have been curious about this since the finale and I apologize if it's already been discussed, but I have been wondering why David held up 4 fingers right before he sang Time of My Life. He had just motioned for the other contestants to join him so my first thought is that he was looking at MJ and making a reference to the 4 Horseman? (The name MJ, David, Luke M. and Jason Y. gave themselves) Any other ideas?

I think that it was to mark 4/4 time.

LOL...that would be a practical reason.

I think there was an interview where he and 3 other guys (Michael Johns was one of them?) called themselves the 4 Horsemen? Or something like that?

I believe that the "four horsemen" that David referred to were:
David
MJ
Luke Menard
(other dude -used to be in a boy band)
David mentioned that they made the decision to call themselves that when they roomed together during the first week of the top 24.

Here's the quote from the article about when he visited Luke Menard in the hospital:
During Hollywood week, Cook said he, Menard, Michael Johns and Jason Yeager bonded and called themselves "the four horsemen." He explained, "Any time one of your own is going through something as horrible as that, it makes everything else seem a little bit insignificant." "I'm excited to be put in [the spotlight] where I can hopefully do something to help other people," Cook said.

The OP asked if it was referring to the Four Horsemen, and she even named who the Four Horsemen were. Her question was does anyone think he was referring to the Four Horsemen when he put up his four fingers, and if not, then what do you think he was referring to? (somehow this became a question about who the Four Horsemen were even though she put that in her first post.)
So, back to the original question, any ideas on why he put his four fingers up? Cause now I'm curious, lol.

While 4/4 time is a practical answer and did make me laugh, I doubt that would be correct, since the song is in 6/8 time. I'm going with the four horsemen possibility. I do appreciate practicality, though.

I found this on another thread around here:

http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...logID=402472625Written by Jason Yaeger about him, Luke Menard, Michael Johns & David Cook. I noticed David showing Michael 4 fingers just after he was announced the winner, now I know what it meant!
may be the answer to your question

Could it be related to the number of choruses of the song? Maybe communication with the music director? I didn't count, but it seems to me it had to have been specific msg to someone -- I think the 4 horsemen idea is fun but unlikely.

I don't think it has anything to do with the song...I doubt seriously that he was thinking about communicating with the band right after winning AI. I'm sure they were well rehearsed as to what they were going to do.

if you read jason's blog, you'd see a pic of the four of them doing the hand sign, well david is actually doing a peace sign? LOL

I think it wasn't related to the song at all..because he knew that already!
So yeah...four hoursemen thing seems more likely!

The night of the finale, I wondered what the "4" thing was about. But now with Jason's blog (and didn't David mention it on Larry King Live too?) about the Four Horsemen, that's a good possibility. Something from David to Michael, who was off to the side.

Thanks!! I'm pretty sure now after reading Jason's blog and seeing the pix of them holding up 4 fingers that he was looking at Michael!

Jason Yeager! I was wrong, sorry. I thought that it was the long, blonde dude.

Thank you for the correction.
