Full Version: DC's New Album
David Cook > David Cook Debut Album > "Self Titled" Album Discussion
Scott
I have an image in my head of David's new album, due out this fall. My hope is that the producers accept 4 songs from Analog Heart that DC said he submitted. I'm actually not sure if he submitted these 4 songs, other songs, or all of AH. This is just speculation. Not sure if they'll also remix, re-record or remaster AH songs. Proudcers might think that's necessary-perhaps not.
So here's my new DC dream album:

1. Time of My life (Album Version-remixed, magic rainbow replaced by new DC lyric)
2. Porcelain (from AH)
3. Fall Back Into Me (from AH)
4. New song by Raine Maida & David Cook
5. New song by Raine Maida & David Cook
6. New song by Jesse McCartney & David Cook
7. New Song by Ryan Tedder & David Cook
8. New song by any combination of Tedder, McCartney & Cook
9. New song by David Cook
10. New song by David Cook
11. Makeover (from AH)
12. Silver (from AH)

My assumption is that the producers will insist the outside songwriters do nearly half the tracks, so I kept it at five out of the 12, and that they won't allow more than 4 Analog Heart songs on it (1/3 of the tracks). I'll bet DC has at least two good new songs to submit already, since he said he was well on his way with a 2nd solo album before AI. This is how I think they're going to get this new CD out so quickly.
What do you all think??

I think Searchlights and for sure The Truth have Top 40 hit written all over them.

You definitely have a good point, Starrlight. I would not mind at all of those two ended up on the new album!
DiBo
yeah The Truth would be a huge hit!!! but i think Optimistic to a Fault should be added there to! I ADORE THAT SONG!! and i got like 6 of my friends to like that song....so it could be a hit
Felipe Pitrez

So as I understand it, Optimistic to a Fault is a track off his 2nd solo album which he was working on. So that could be one of the "new" David Cook songs I put on my wishlist (as I said, I assume his new stuff will be submitted, along with AH tracks). Can anyone explain the status of DC's 2nd solo album. He said he was pretty far along with it, but I've seen posts that say he actually recorded it last December, maybe on New Year's Eve but that it hadn't been released since he was heading off to do Idol. Was it already mixed and mastered, or did he just record the tracks?

I just got home from work and decided to listen to Analog Heart and you know what Starrlight, you're right, Searchlights is totally radio-radio and must be on the new album!!

Searchlights is one of my favorite on that album. Straight Ahead as well. And The Truth is seriously a Top 40 contender as well as Adult Contemporary.

Scott you can check out Optimistic and a second song Dear Heaven here

I don't know the status of the recording, I am assuming it is recorded in full but only David has access to it.

I's love to see "Let Go" and "The Truth" from Analog, and possibly a full version of "Hello"...especially being Lionel Richie wants him to...and possible either "Billie Jean" or "ABMB". I'd love to see about 10 new songs....hopefully rock dominated.

Funny, I'm actually rethinking my original post, after listening to AH again last night and in my car this morning on my way to work. I agree "Let Go" would be a great cut (love that guitar solo-was that DC or a session musician??). I also have fallen in love with "Don't Say a Word." It's got a totally pop-rock chorus that would make it a radio hit. So my reevaluation of AH tracks I would want on the new album is "Let Go," "The Truth," "Searchlights" and "Don't Say a Word," with "Fall Back Into Me" and "Makeover" running right behind those four. It's really hard to choose!

Porcelain HAS to be in your list! It's got that great 'Nickleback vs Daughtry' vibe about it. It's the highest played song on my iTunes laugh.gif
NoWayJose
I think he should record "the first I ever saw your face" in his style. That would be big.. He is fine with his rock singing, however, I think his voice would be appreciated in a much better way when he sings rocky/ballasish/strong vocal kind of songs.

JenniferRF
I'm really hoping that the majority of the songs on his album are new songs. We already know that "time of my life" has to be on the album. The only song that he has done previously that I would love to be on his new album is "optimistic to a fault". It's amazing. I'd love to hear how it sounds when it is recorded in the new studio. wink.gif I can hear it on the radio. It's wonderful.
Cookie's Girl
I liked what I heard of Optimistic to a Fault, it has a very radio-ish sound. I also like Don't Say a Word, Porcelain, and The Truth. I almost don't like Silver; I think that the only reason I *do* like it is because David sings it. But really, I'll be happy with anything that he puts out; he's just amazing like that! happy.gif
justinlp
Will he do a repeats?
Since he said at American Idol before, " why do something that is done before?"...
cookie jar
i may be with the minority here... but i just don't see any reason for him to put any analog heart songs on his new album. why would i wanna waste tracks on songs i've already heard?

Agreed! That is my favorite song off of AH!! I made it into a ringtone for my phone earlier today. biggrin.gif

I would like his album full of new songs except for World I Know and Innocent - i just can't stop playing those. If he has songs like those on his album i'll be very happy.......although he better have some good old rock on there! laugh.gif

Please let this happen, the whole magic rainbow thing makes it nearly impossible for me to listen to this song.

I think my choices from AH would be Silver, The Truth, Makeover and Porcelain, and I'd want David to have a hand in writting at least 10 of the tracks, then I can be guaranteed no more magic flaming rainbows biggrin.gif Optimistic would be a great choice (or whatever that song is actually called as nothing titled OTAF featured on the original listing) but judging the second album by that rough demo, anything he was did was sounding great.

Just to take the pressure off David a bit, as this album will come about quickly (Hurrah!) it makes sense for him to use some of the tracks off AH and rerecord them - much as we are obsessive fans, the majority will not know those songs so they'll be fresh to them - plus it means he's got the majority of the songwrighting credit on the album which I'd love as he is a kickass lyricist.

If there was one AH track to be included in DC's new album, I hope it's "Silver". I am actually hoping AI would use it as next season's journey/exit song.

Anyway, I'd love to see "Optimistic to a Fault" or maybe even "Dear Heaven" in there. cool.gif
audrey
That sounds like a very acceptable track list but I would like Hello or Always Be My Baby or the Neil Diamond track we missed All I Really Need is You.

I just want new Cook material. I have pre ordered 6 copies and I know my friends and family here in Spain would also like to order, so as soon as we have a track list I will start selling.
annie702
That song is called "Better Never Than Late"...and I, too, hope it's in the new album!

The Truth would be amazing..

also if he did an acoustic version of time of my life ..like at the walmart performance instead of the standard itunes one thats out now.. that would be amazing
Buffee
Anything but TIME OF MY LIFE. I am sorry but if I hear that song ONE MORE TIME, I am going to scream. Every single show....its that song. By the time the album comes out...........I will have to stratch it off of the cd. I knew this would happen if he won American Idol. I heard that he "submitted" some songs that he wrote from the past..which means he has NO creative say so on what goes on this album. The record company he signed with OWNS him now.
If he was a newbie to the industry I would agree with this that he needs alot of song guidance, but honestly I think hes more then capable of choosing his own songs for this album.
I am very disappointed that DREAM BIG did not get the air play it deserves. It is a awesome song....one that I cannot get out of my head.....thats how I know it would be a HUGE hit....even when I am asleep I hear that song. I just hope this record company doesn;t take away all of the creative & wonderful things that made us all love DC. They have a nasty repuitation of molding people into what THEY want!
randomness
All I hope is that David gets to use his musical instincts as to what needs to go on the album. He proved on Idol that he has fabulous instincts with what will be good and I would hope the record producers are smart enough to realise this.
