Full Version: American Cancer Society Donations
David Cook > David Fans > Gift Packages & Organizations & Donations

I sent an email (will try to call tomorrow) the American Cancer Society to see if we can set up a specific donation place on the web for all of David's fans to donate to the American Cancer Society, and still be able to track the amount in David's honor. I also asked if we can set-up a table at each of the Idol tour concerts to provide information about everything the organization offers as well as to collect donations. I decided to take the initiative since so many people on here stated they are interested in making a donation. This could be a huge fundraiser for the American cancer Society. I have organized several charitable events and feel this is something we can pull together in a short time. I will keep everyone posted. Keep Your fingers crossed.

This would be.......amazing, incredible and very touching. Thank you for taking the time to even consider doing this!

I'm not just doing this for David, but I'm doing it for my own dad. I am so glad David won and is bringing more attention to this issue. I know if it is in David's name people are even more likely to donate. There are so many AI fans and websites, it would be very easy for us to spread the word if we can organize this for the tour. I have no problem making phone calls and sending emails to get this set-up. It gives me hope and helps to know I am doing something that may make a difference in someone's life. Nothing has pleased me more on all of these threads to see the support everyone is willing to offer for this cause.

pats posted earlier that DCcrazy (?) did a page already. I contacted pats for the URL; no word yet. And if there's a way we can make it available to international fans.......

Great news! i just spoke to someone at ACS, they are very interested in having a table at each concert to provide early detection and support information as well as accept donations. What i need now, is help from y'all. I need volunteers for each venue. If you are intersted just pm me and i can give you details, there are different needs. I am happy to call each venue to get permission and details on where we can set-up the table. If y'all can please pm me the phone number for the local venues i would appreciate it, it will cut back on my leg work. If the venue lists a community relations person, that would be an ideal contact. The ACS is working on a way to have a link we can post that will keep track of all of the donations made online in David and Adams honor. They are also looking into the international link. As of now, there is a 1-800 number that international users need to use. Once I hear back from them with the details i will need help getting this info out to all the other websites so all the idol fans will know to look for this at each concert.

Hi, sesot, think we're duplicating efforts here. I've been in communication with ACS since last Friday about a page for all of David's fan (including a solution for international fans). See the Charity Fan Site thread

Maybe we can tag-team this. I actually am already in contact with ACS and have an income development specialist calling me back tomorrow on this topic.

And I think we can certainly find some efficiencies regarding tables at the tour. Lots of folks have been handling it locally, and that may end up being the best way to handle it (as MAW requested with our ticket doantions).

Feel free to PM me anytime. There is a lot of great engagement on the charity thread.

I'm really excited to see you guys trying to get this organized. I'm dying to help out.
My great grandfather died of cancer and I never got much of a chance to know him, but I know that he really loved me and he's my family's biggest hero.
I've also lost a best friend who pushed everybody out of her life because her mother died of cancer. When it happened, I was the only one that was truly there for her. And my best friend, Chase, has a brother was diagnosed with cancer twice. The stress was so difficult for him and he was so scared that he was going to lose his brother, that he almost killed himself over it. I met David (Chase's brother. Ironic, eh?) And he's a fantastically nice man. So, with that said and explained, I want to be a part of this.
So, as much as I love David Cook, this isn't just for him either. This is for many people I've known over the years. And I wouldn't be here today if it hadn't been for my great grandfather. This cause touches my heart.

hey, i'm really proud of david cook and his efforts... whoever's gonna get to meet him on the idol tour, can you do me a favor? I am Kia, i'm from the Philippines and I can't really watch the idol tour... so i just want this message to reach him if possible. i ordered one of those david cook fans unite against cancer wristbands because i know they will benefit people like me. i already wrote on the Dear David Cook thread. I was diagnosed a few months ago with lung cancer, and it was already detected at a late stage. chemo doesn't work on me anymore so basically, the doctor says i have a few months to live. while i believe that prayers are very powerful, there is still that side of me which is scared, and somehow it goes to a point where i want to lose hope. but there are people like David Cook who not only blessed us with his gift of song but also with the gift of his big heart. it makes me very happy to know that somehow, someone out there (though we don't really know each other) cares for people like me. Mr. Cook, i do hope this reaches you. We really appreciate this. As much as I admire you, I also admire your brother, Adam. Fighters like him and comrades like you makes everything feel like victory.

And giving me this great opportunity to help makes all the difference in the world. THANKS AGAIN.

(hey i'm sorry if this seems quite dramatic, but I really do appreciate this. I just really hope this reaches him. just so he knows how far he is going with what he's doing.)

Kia:
I am so sorry - please know that you are in prayer and God Bless You. I hope someone on this board with who is possibly part of his inner circle sees your note and gets this to him.

Blessings,

Thank you so much to everyone who is volunteering their time, money, and effort toward this. I also have family who have battled cancer, and an uncle who passed away due to a brain tumor. This cause is very close to my heart, and together, we can make a difference!

Here is the page set-up for all of David's fans to make donations in his honor. International fans are also able to make donations. This page will keep track of all donations received in David's honor. You can even set-up your own sub team and fundraising goal to share with your family, friends, and coworkers. It is really easy to do, once on the main page, scroll down to Rosters and click on join Cook Fans Conquering cancer to create you own team. there is a fee of $25 to create a sub-team, but all of that is credited not only to your teams fundraising goal, but also the larger team of Cook Fans Conquering Cancer.
