Full Version: how many times daily do you mention DC in conversation?
David Cook > David Cook > All About David Cook

My family is sick of hearing about him.

Do I care? uh, no wink.gif .

I use him as: an example of personal growth in a very structured situation; as hope for rock in pop music; etc., etc., etc. His journey works into a number of theoretical constructs! So much fun! biggrin.gif

I come here to read more about him, and to talk to others who get it. He truly is all that and a bag of chips biggrin.gif.

Today, only once. There will be others.

I am seriously trying to limit my use of him (and I just noticed how that sounded...hehe), my friends just don't understand. And, I do want to keep my friends...hehe, so I just live in my little fantasy world by myself, the only friend I have that I can talk to about this is in SoCal, and I live in Alabama, so we don't get to do the whole fangirly thing very often.

Shared this story before: I was saying "David Cook" so much at work that the guys who work with me and our vendors have turned it into a 'game' with proceeds going to ACS. (Think the Seuss Who-ville drinking game but instead of a shot everytime, $2 goes into the pot -- one by me and matched by our vendors.)

So far, my DC addiciton is up to $398, and the best part is that our company's matching gift policy will match that dollar for dollar. (For those who are counting, that's 199 David Cook mentions -- that they've caught me with -- since April 21 . . . . and that's during *business* conversations! Yikes!)

As long as my DC addiction is doing good ($$ to ACS), I'm not going to change my conversation patterns.

I can't even imagine what that sum will hit after 8 AI concerts this summer! OMG . . . . .

I try to throw him in every chance I get...!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

...at this point in my life i can honestly say God only knows how many times i mention him...
hotforcookie
Too much......for people around me.

Not enough for me!!!!
lindzluffsacookie
Lol. Too many times. He's all my mom and I chat about. But I never talk to my boyfriend about him.
Rock Angel
Too many times to count!! Trying to remember the last time I had a conversation without mentioning him........um no can't remember. Any other conversations just seem pointless now
Vicky
I've talked about him so much that my mom told me that I need to get out of my fantasy world and re-enter the real world. Geez, and now we're visiting my fam and my cousin said "Gosh, you're all up into that man! I called your name about 50 times and you didn't say anything!"

I try to limit the amount of times I mention him around my mom, but damn it, it's hard.

Geez, and let's not talk about the many times I've blasted his music in the house.

And then if that wasn't bad enough, "With You" by Chris Brown came on and I started laughing my head off and my other cousin looked at me like "What's so funny?"

And now, almost every other sentence ends with "Chicks, man".

Heck, even Intervention couldn't stop this.
BlackPaws91
Well, considering practically everything reminds me of him, a LOT.
In fact, my cousin actually gets annoyed sometimes because we will be playing basket ball or messin with my skateboard and I'll think of something random that will relate to both David and what we are currently doing. tongue.gif

Oh well...at least I know some people won't be able to forget about him.
c.cook92
soooo soooo soooo many times. i think i can relate anything to DC. <3

my family are all fans though.
besides my dad...he just looks at me and tells me to shut up.
StarrySkies
I just had a LONG conversation with my grandmother about him this afternoon, actually! (First time she and I have ever discussed him. I let her know I was a BIG fan, but maybe not as big as I am, LOL.) My other family members know I love him, but I talk about him most to my mom. I usually instigate it, but yesterday she asked me what he was "up to" lately. I try not to talk about him much at work, though the wallpaper for my work computer is the picture of David & the puppy. (It makes me smile and I figure if I'm gonna sit there for 9 hours, I need something to smile about!)

AMEN!

I think it would be easier to count how many time I HAVEN'T mentioned him...practically every conversation with anyone I speak with is about DC rolleyes.gif
AussieCookieChick
I am trying my hardest not to mention DC no more than 10 times a day ... and for me that is a minor miracle. Actually I am really good, I can go a few hours without talking about him but my biggest issue? I CAN NOT STOP LISTENING TO DAVID! I have had my iPod on David for nearly 3 months non stop ... I JUST CAN NOT TURN MY IPOD OVER ... it is so bad that even if I wanted to turn in over it would't, it would be stuck!

Lol isnt it just wonderful???! biggrin.gif

I always lose count at the 1000 count mark. Daily. Sometimes hourly.

Although, I did manage to go, like a whole 5 minutes without thinking about him on Saturday when I was at the lake. I probably could have gone longer, if not for the fact that the day at the lake was a birthday party for my best friend's brother, who's name is... wait for it.... David.
Rhoda
Probably too many times, if people continue to smack me every time I say something about him is any indication. smile.gif My husband even told me he was getting jealous. I just laughed cause that's just ridiculous!

WAY too many times.... my sons were laughing all weekend when we were out shopping and I'd pick up the latest People, OK etc. magazines and could flip to the exact page DC was on.... Hubby just yesterday said - I know he's good, but he's not that good... you act like he's the second coming of music...!

Well - he is - right?
SarahLee
I think my sisters are sick of me talking about him. It's moved on to work now because I can hear TOML on the DMX radio.

I talk about him on a constant basis. I can't help it. I think that's why I love this board!
T.C. Robson
If the board counts along with it, then around 10 to 15 times a day would be my guess.

Doesn't sound like much, but my Mom brings him up too. smile.gif My Mom is so cool.

I’ve cut down a lot lately. I now only insert him into a conversation when people give me an open invitation to do so. Like using words that contain the letters D, A, V, I, D, C, O, K, or E (for eyes), M (for music), L (for lips), A (for arms), H (for HOT!!!), P (package), S (sexgod), and/or F (for obvious reasons). laugh.gif

So you "cut down" a lot have you? wink.gif Ha ha.. I see any conversation as an open invitation to mention him. Even if it was a conversation about the weather tongue.gif
StitchMeUp
I try not to as much as possible (although it's touch when someone says cookie not to giggle, and yes, even at 40 I still giggle like a teen). I talk to my best friend about him (but not ALL the time...) and my teenage daughter (who finally said yesterday..."God, Mom!! You are a bit obsessive!!" I am waiting for her to say, "Mom, you are too old to have a crush like this", or "Does Dad know? You are married!!" But thankfully she hasn't yet. So anyway I try to curb the talk about DC around her too, even though she's a fan herself (but I doubt she lusts after him as much as I do!)
CookRockLove
I can't even count how many times, really. He just comes up at the mention of ANY hot guys..or the word "cookie" or anything else... laugh.gif

DavidCookieFan15
Wow..too many times to count..If I had to actually sit and count how many times I talked about him in a day it would probablly be around 50-60 at least.
raven

Well, of course a conversation about the weather leads to talking about David. After all he did do that whole little weatherman thing during his hometown visit. Yes, I realize I am obsessed, but I don't care. I try very hard not to talk too much about David to people, but that often doesn't work very well. I mention him at least ten times a day.
D Girl
If I had a dollar for every time I said any name for this man (David, Cook, DC, Cookie, Sexiest Man Alive, etc), I would be an insanely rich woman!!! smile.gif
Mariel
Actually, now that you mention it, before I can say anything to my mom, she asks

"Does it involve David? Because if it does I'm not listening."
melenaka
I think about David most of the time but I only talk about him when I can say something bonafide about his talent or his character. I like to talk about how he is using his new-found fame for good and how he always makes sure to credit Archie and the other Idols for their talent.

I was playing Blindsided in the car and my hubby said he was surprised that was David singing, he thought his voice was a lot higher from what hew heard on AI. I took the opportunity to describe David's awesome (I think 4 octave) vocal range. My hubby was describing something to me and he used the word "ostentatious". That put a big smile on my face and I said "that's one of David's favorite words" wub.gif LOL. Who can resist the Word Nerd?

I am definitely all giggly and swoony inside but I guess I am trying to honor David's wishes that his music stays the focus of his fame.
