During the Fox all access radio show this weekend, the host Chris Leary played a tune by Jesse McCartney. Afterwards, he announced that Jesse and Ryan Tedder (from One Republic) are busy writing songs for David Cook's upcoming album. What??? I think someone doesn't realize that 14 year old girls aren't his main audience-no offense intended towards 14 year olds of course. Is anyone else as horrified about this as I am? Or am I the only one? Any comments?

I am. They wrote Bleedin love for Leona Lewis and I hate that! I love David's own songs, not that warbling rubbish.

Jesse was in Dream Street for goodness sakes lol! I remember when he was like 10/11 (and it was not that long ago) and they came to our mall and the little girls just ate him up.
He might be really talented, I'm not one to judge on that. But I don't think they should be throwing him with David just because he wrote one hit song. One hit song doesn't mean anything. David could write an entire album by himself and make it absolutely incredible the way Analog Heart was to us.

Contributors mentioned thus far:
- David Cook
- Raine Maida (Confirmed! As per ESPN.com interview: "I actually got to write with one of my musical heroes, a guy named Raine Maida from Our Lady Peace. I got to sit down and write some songs with him, and that was pretty heavy.")
- Jesse McCartney
- Ryan Tedder

I mentioned this on another thread, but Tedder/McCartney also wrote "Apologize". Tedder worked with Blake and was
rumoured to be writing stuff for Archie, too. Having a long history with AI alums, this is hardly surprising, and having
two people responsible for huge radio hits helping you out isn't real cause for concern. Given David's interpretative
abilities, I'm sure he could really do a number on whatever they help him out with.
And "Bleeding Love" would be awesome Cookified with electric guitar, anyway!

Just because you aren't a fan of McCartney's style of music does not mean the kid can't write a hit. Same goes for Tedder. They are talented songwriters and have made mucho bucks writing music for people that aren't in the same style as them.
I for one am looking forward to what they come up with for BOTH Davids. Archuleta sounded AMAZING singing Apologize at the Finale and Cook can sing A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G.

Exactly...it doesn't worry me at all. David already proved that he can turn words into gold.

Give McCartney some slack, Paul McCartney is his uncle or something like that. It's in their blood. I'd rather DC write his own stuff, though. *Sigh* We will have to wait after the idol contract is up for that. *Waits Impatiently*

I hope that they are going to let him release some of his own songs. After all, he won AI as much because if his arrangements as because of his voice/singing. They could take the best of his old songs and he could rearrange them to fit the new album.
I they don't use any of his old stuff, he may not have time to have too much input between the tour rehearsals and the tour starting in July.
David is very happy to be working with Raine Maida and it is a good thing, but I can't help being a bit concerned.

Is he? So why is it we have never heard of him on the UK?

Are you sure, because One Republic have had a few hits over here, and I've never heard that mentioned at all in connection to them, and the British press would be all over it.

tedder is a grammy-winner songwriters so maybe he can make some good songs for Cook (bleeding love is a meaningless song but it is catchy and a hit like everywhere in the world), so i am open with the idea of them writing songs for Cook
i don't think the songs tedder/mccartney write will be that bad.. i know some of us don't like the pop sound of jesse mccartney but i believe that Cook will somehow tweak the arrangement to fit his style, which is the style that we love...
if AI is any indication.. Cook re-arrange a bubblegum-pop Mariah Carey's Always Be My Baby into an emo-rock song which we all love.. i mean this guy can sing the phonebook rite?

My sentiments exactly. I too know that the very moment David starts singing, it will be his own interpretation of the song. Whoever who wrote it, would be overlooked upon.

from www.about.com
...Despite internet and teen rumors, Jesse McCartney is not related to Sir Paul McCartney of the Beatles.

I think David should write his own songs, and seek out his own songwriters. He IS a songwrite, after all. I just hope that the new album has some of the songs he sang the last few weeks on AI.

While I would prefer for David to be able to write all of his own songs, it's part of the deal that comes with winning idol to have other songwriters. It extremely cool for David to be able to write with one of his heroes Raine Maida. I have no probem with Jesse McCartney, I liked his song Beautiful Soul and I guess as far as anyone else, I really have no opinion, we'll just have to wait and see what the finished product is. Davids voice is amazing so no matter who is writing the songs, I think it will be great!

well, as far as I know they'll co-write with David. So David has a saying. Also, it won't hurt David to have something that is radio friendly (and those guys know about that). Some help from people who know how the business works is not that bad.

Speaking of putting some covers in his album.. i don't think it is quite a great idea.. for me, i'd rather hear new stuff from him.. besides most of us have already gotten the songs he sang during AI...
well maybe one or two songs will not hurt ( eg. Always Be My Baby/Billie Jean )
