so he will received gold certification next week? cool!
BLake
Hmmm . . . not quite there. Do we need to buy more tunes? smile.gif

Actually, maybe these next two major TV appearances are going to be good for sales. Assuming that TPTB (please) let him sing Magic Rainbow . . . the acoustic version like he sang at the Walmart Shareholders meeting, maybe that will pick up sales. Then again, those ladies of The View and their demo may prefer the Real Magic Rainbow.

The decline was a little steep there, wasn't it? Then again, he wasn't out doing Leno, Regis, or any of the morning talk shows last week. Let's see what these next two appearances bring. And maybe some more airplay, too.

I *so* want this for him. Really hoping it comes next week!

I was curious about the stats so I looked up Cookie's position on ITunes. He is at #15 and #2 on Amazon.

Doesn't sound terrible to me -- I think he's slipped about 5 places since the weekend. I have no idea if this is normal or not, but it's only been about 3 weeks, so if that much of a drop only puts you down a few notches how much is everybody else selling?!? He seems to be doing okay to me.

Does anybody know how long it usually takes these things to go gold?!?
Pam08
Honestly, these steep declines aren't that unusual. In some cases, you will see a 50% drop by week 2. It could have been worse had the song not been getting airplay. It honestly may be a long shot this song going platinum but that's okay though. This song has done better than anyone ever anticipated and has broken records all over the place. The song was probably riding on the momentum of his idol win the first couple of weeks. The more TV appearances he does, the more chances the song can have to get a slight sales "bump". I don't think any of the winning songs have ever gone platinum. If this song can finally get gold certification next week, I'll be happy with that. smile.gif

A Moment Like This made platinum and I think Do I Make You Proud and I Believe made Gold.

Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood's winning songs are the only winning songs that reached platinum.. and i am sure that Cook's TOML will follow suit by the end of the year if the song make it to his new album... as a bonus track of course..
Starrlight
Did Inside Your Heaven go plat? That was such a godawful song tongue.gif

And TOML will be on the album. It says on the pre-ordering "featuring Time Of My Life"

Hopefully TOML will be done in the acoustic guitar version that isn't half bad. I'm pretty sure David is contractually obligated to put it on its album and he's shown himself to be pretty much a team player, so he won't fight them on it.

As far as I know, most of the Idols had to put the coronation song on their albums. This Is The Night is on Clay's album as a "bonus track" (it's track 9). Based on who's writing for the album I would say it's probably going to be pretty poppy and an acoustic version of TOML wouldn't stick out that much.

A Moment Like This was *huge* - it is the only CS I was not able to get away from. I don't think David is going to top it in terms of airplay or sales but he seems to be doing a lot better than Jordin.

If you are comparing just the success of these 2 coronation singles alone, we were told that within a week or so after This is My Now went to radio last year, it had all but disappeared. The song basically flopped once it came out. TOML has gotten some amazing promotion considering that it is the "winning" song.

And yes EVERY Idol has had the coronation song on their albums and some of the runners up have had their versions on their albums as well. It's a given.

Exactly. If you look at the Amazon page for David's album, it plainly tells you that the song will be on the CD. smile.gif

Found this on MJ's blog:

Total Stats

You might need to scroll down.

Anyway, MJ confirms that David Cook has sold more than Bo, Diana, Kat, Blake, and Jordin did in total in 3 weeks.

Now, they're almost all runner-ups, but Jordin and Blake had digital releases, and all of them were on AI when the show had much higher ratings.

Probably platinum's still a stretch, but it's nice that the song is still doing OK.
