The article is exactly spot on. I've gone back to see the videos of the early performances, and yes, its smouldering hot!! My fave though, is The World I Know, when he does the side smirk...oh my.

Thanks for sharing this. It's maybe a bit too focused on how hot he is (yeah, we get it), but I like the elements about his artistry. He really is going to be a huge huge star that will defintely have records that will stay relevent for years to come. I truly can not wait!

Thanks for this! I think this pretty much sums it up:
"American women fell in love with David Cook over the course of the competition – we loved his confidence, his unabashed willingness to strip himself emotionally naked for all of us to see, his mature distinctive voice, and his vast depth of talent."
Oh, and the blogs she references - which I hadn't seen before - are hysterical!!
"What DC does to us is not something the tweens or even our 20Something sisters would really "get". You see, when DC sings, he doesn't just sing. He's actually doing all of us. And he's been doing us one night a week for nearly months now."
LOL!

Hee hee - I wrote the article in response to Nigel's ridiculous comments that Cook lacks charisma on stage. "We" get that he's hot and captivating on stage, but apparently there are those who do not...hence why I felt the need to spell it out in excruciating detail. You will note, once I pounded that point home, I moved on and away from focusing on his hot factor
Glad that you all enjoyed it

This is a great article! Like they have in the past, the women of America (of all ages) have picked out their next great rock star!
"In hindsight it now seems appropriate that this year they made such a big deal on Idol that the Beatles playbook became available for the contestants to pick and choose from. Who were The Beatles but this little band of young guys from Liverpool England who arrived in the US, performed on a TV show, and woke up the oppressed sexuality of teenagers during a time of social awakening during the height of the Cold War. The girls who fell in love the four unlikely sex symbols bought record after record from them and turned them into rock legends.
The Beatles are proof that so long the members of a pop group have real talent they can move beyond their frenzied introduction into pop music and move on to have long, meaningful careers. From the birth of rock music, women have always been responsible for anointing rockers to the status of rock legends."

Awesome article! You said exactly what I've been telling people (mainly guys) for months! My co-worker lost a bet with me on the AI winner because he was SURE Archie would win because he could sing so well. I kept saying, "Tim, you just don't get it . . . you don't know what David Cook does to women . . . "
The rock stars with staying power are the ones that emotionally connect with their fans. Case in point, how many Journey fans are still sticking with the band without Steve Perry? Whether one agrees with his dismissal or not, he could really connect with the audience and make emotions soar with his voice, plus he genuinely cared for the fans. And yes, I miss him terribly . . . Thank goodness David is around to make my heart soar again!

Thank you for posting this. I had not seen it. I have tried over the last few weeks to explain my "slight obsession" with David and this article explains it far better than I have been able to. Being in my late 40's I have listened to all types of music and just love music as long as it is good. I believe that David has the potential to be huge, if we support him and I for one intend to do just that for many years to come. Part of his appeal to me is that he doesn't sound like every one else out there. When I hear his voice I know that it is David. The other thing that I find extremely appealing is that he appears to be humble and can't quite believe that this has happened to him. I think that it would be very easy for someone in his position to handle it in just the opposite way.
Just tonite I went back and watched all of the videos in order from audition to win and the fact that he was able to take the criticism and learn from it each week is incredibly smart and I also quote Paula Abdul when I say "smart is sexy".

You know, you're absolutely right. Journey isn't really Journey without Steve Perry. When a band replaces a lead singer, the whole dynamic is upset and the new sum often ends up being much less than the parts. Even though I watched "Rock Star: INXS" a few years ago because I love the Michael Hutchence-era INXS, I can't consciously bring myself to support the six-man unit that now calls itself by that name. Never mind that the other five guys (who are all excellent musicians, don't get me wrong) are still there; without Michael Hutchence, it just isn't INXS to me.

I dunno how I missed this thread earlier, but that article was tops!
""" He has literally the unheard of potential to sell records & concert tickets to women of multiple generations in the same family when his solo album in released. Currently there isn’t a single younger performer or band on the charts today who could be called the next U2 or Bon Jovi and certainly no one who has the appeal that Cook has to the aging Baby Boomers. """
Damn straight, sista!
David is mad talented. Insanely talented. He is hot, to boot, but that's just icing on the cake. He is a real musician and I get tingly just thinking about .... Wow, I never watched AI before. I tuned in this season, and got to watch Cook materialize before my very eyes. I am soooo excited to watch his career flourish.
Bottom line : Cook is someone that the females love - of all generations, but guys can like as well with a straight face.
I can't wait to hear what this talented musician has to offer. I really truly believe 5 yrs from now, 10 yrs from now, I will still be buying Cook music because he is here to stay.

Yes! I remember when I heard Simon tell David he had no charisma after "All Right Now" (I had to see it on YouTube, as I was a latecomer); I thought "WHAAATTTTT???? Well, that clears it up: Simon is NOT gay" (I always had my doubts

)!!!!! I actually found it difficult to breathe watching that damn thing! Really, when he smiled that crooked little smile and
growled that "Yeah"????? My good GAAAWWWWD!! I mean DAYUM!! I lost my mind right then and haven't found it yet!
And you're spot on about his potential to be HUGE!! When he starts his tour it will be the first concert I'll have been to in over ten years!! Christ, I might even scream uncontrollably - and I've NEVER done that at a concert, never really understood why anyone would! But I am utterly powerless over my response to this man. I watch his videos, and videos made of him by fans and find myself involuntarily moaning out loud. It's nuts!!! But I'm lovin' every minute of it

I loved that part of the article. I'd get so mad at Simon when he'd bash Cook on his "perceived" smugness. Oh my god! I'd growl and pound my fists into the couch. I was so afraid he'd intimidate DC into changing his performances. Because where David’s performance was concerned, Simon was NOT “spot-on”. He, in fact, was completely out of touch! Nevertheless, to give him the benefit of the doubt, he does have the wrong hormones, and he didn’t get all those juicy close-ups of DC’s dreamy eyes! And . . . sweet justice . . . we all had the final say anyways, because David Cook IS the new American Idol!

Jun 16 2008, 03:59 PM
Eh, I love Simon. Simon speaks his mind and about 85% of the time I agree with him (other than the weeks that he gushed over Archie.) I spent the first 1/2 of the competition groaning that Ramielle sounded like she should be working on a cruise ship and finally Simon parroted out my words - I jumped up and down at that

I do find his criticisms of people's clothes to be hysterical considering he never wears anything different from week to week himself. I loved that David wasn't afraid to dress for each of his songs - the girls do it so why shouldn't the guys? He reminded me of so many of my favorite rockers w/ his clothing choices...yet his slightly country twist to his clothing choices made his style uniquely his own.
There's usually truth hidden in what Simon says...when he called Cook pompous and smug, I think he was just trying to remind David not to get too comfortable with things and to tone things down some because if he started to come across as too cocky America could turn against him. You'll note that after "Day Tripper" David was more toned down at the end of his performances and he came across a lot more professional as a result.
For the night of the final 2 I got the impression from listening to folks the day after that there was something acoustically off in the theater and David's last 2 songs just didn't sound quite right in there, however, on the live feed he was positively magical. Simon stumbled out his apology more than once on the final night, he said it on the Idol Live pre-finale show as well. Even a grim faced (rather ill looking) Randy had to agree that things were COMPLETELY different in the playback.
What's funny is it really wasn't until Michael got booted off that I came around to being a Cook fan. This freaking show always breaks my heart (still pissed for Jennifer Hudson getting kicked off Season 3) so even though I mightily grumbled loudly that Cook was the best I didn't allow myself to get into the mania until he actually won. Thank god he did - I need something to obsess over during the summer since new TV isn't on

Oh don't worry, I agree - but David was...overly exuberant with his bouncing around etc? Simon giving an over the top criticism was his way of getting through to David to get him to calm down some...or maybe he was just being an donkey's behind
