Full Version: Callout Rocks
David Cook > David Cook > The Multimedia

We've spent so much time talking about our favorite Analog Heart songs, sometimes I feel we've neglected DC's Axium work. Let me start by saying I love AH, listen to it all the time and when I have it going in my car on the way to work, I CANNOT get The Truth or Makeover choruses out of my head the rest of the day.

That said, I have to say one of the best demonstrations of David's powerful voice, and one of the most haunting hard rock melodies he's ever written, sung and recorded, has to be Callout. Now there's a chorus I can't get out of my head! It was one of the first pre-idol songs I heard and fell in love with (probably in late April), and I've gone back to listening to it again and I just hope that there's a song or two on the new album that resemble it. In some ways, having the full band backing him up, the Axium songs are more complex and richer than AH. I love AH for its raw, "all David, all the time" aspect. But I love Axium and especially Callout because it's still David in the lead (lead vocals, lead guitar, wrote the songs) but his band did a really good job on those tracks.

What do you all think? It also is why I think David needs a good band with him... not an official band like Daughtry, but a set of muscians that record and go on the road with him. The same team with him-but he can still be billed as a solo act, like Billy Joel or Bruce Springsteen, even though they had a repertoire band with them in the studio and in concert.

Totally 100% agree. And Testament is pretty good too. Story Thus Far is a close second to Analog Heart on my playlist

Scott -- just want to say that I always enjoy your comments, even when I don't have anything to respond. Anyhow, I've never heard Callout. Do you know if it could be added to the Player on this site? (there are other Axium pieces there, but not this one) -- love the convenience of that when I'm at my computer.
Thanks,

Not sure, but there is an excellent mp3 verson on the other fan site, davidcooktheamericanidol.com. That site, on their music page, has all of Analog Heart and most Axium songs. I was able to download from there onto Real Player, and from their you can burn cds, put it in itunes etc. I of course made a generous donation to the cancer society (for double what a CD would cost!) because my guilt got the best of me. If I could hand David 20 bucks for these albums I would (lol). I will make a like donation to DC's new foundation when that's up an running! But I just had to have Callout. You can also find it on youtube (along with his cover of Radiohead's "Creep"). You know, I think David would have put a cease and desist order on all of this if he didn't want us to enjoy he earlier work. 19/RCA really only decides what's officially released... so they have no say here!!!

I absolutely LOVE this song!!! i totally agree, it demonstrates his huge powerful voice so well!. And i love analog heart but personally Axium is 1st on the list with Analog a very close 2nd. i can't stop listening to either one! lol and i agree with you about how axium seems more complex and richer compared to analog heart. the sound...eee! i love everything about it =D the guitar omg amazing...LOVE IT!
with having a band or not having a band....again i have to say i agree with you there as well lol..

I also love the song AC. omg the one part where all the instruments stop and he's singing those verses kinda softly....*faints!* lol then the instruments kinda lower then come back in full force. WOW....amazing. Yet another song is Thought you knew....i absolutely LOVE the guitar rifts at the beginning...insanely amazing lol...

If you listen to David's Rolling Stone video interview, I think that he addresses this issue to some degree. He talks about feeling like music needing to be accessible to everyone. He seems to be happy to have people want to hear his stuff and I think that he must realize that for his fans to hear AH and Axium we aren't being left a lot of choices since the album was pulled from legitimate downloading sources. Like you, I will donate to his Foundation when he gets it up and running and I will definitely be PURCHASING the new album. I would never dream of cheating him out of making a living with his talent.

Two Axium albums "The Story Thus Far" and "Blindsided" are available for download from Walmart.com. Personally, I have a hard time deciding which album I like best - they are both very good! I agree with the comment about Callout - love it. AC is fantastic. Love "Leave Behind" and "Therapy" on Blindsided.
