OK...so what's the scoop on the Mariska Hargitay shirt David wore on Leno? Anyone know?
Cookie323
If I remember correctly from the Finale, that is one of the things that Guru Pitka (Mike Myers) says when he meets people as a greeting as he bows to them (instead of namaste or something else like that). I think I also noticed a little white Guru silhoutte on the tshirt.

That's actually kind of disapointing to me. So DC is a walking billboard for whoever Fox/AI wants to promote? Bummer.

Maybe he just likes Mike Myers. ha

Yeah, it sucks because that movie looks TERRIBLE. But if they told him to wear the shirt, who cares? He put that ugly vest over it, so it's all good! Right? Sorry. I'm just joshin.

i love mariska hargitay. she's gorgeous and i love Benson smile.gif

Thank you sooooo much for solving the mystery of what was on his shirt, I swear I must've looked at about a thousand images of him, and could not for the life of me figure out what it said!! My guess is he got the shirt on Idol when they went to see the movie, and he just thought it would be funny/appropriate to wear it on the show. He seems to have that kind of sense of humor. wink.gif

You know, I like this answer better -- that DC got the shirt when they saw the movie and thought it would be funny to wear since Mike Myers was also on the show.

Remember David is under contractual obligations for who knows how long... another set of handcuffs for him.

Just hoping he can hang onto his true self thru it all!

Well, at least he's said, very clearly, he knows what he signed up for. And he has demonstrated that he's very adept at navigating this kind of slippery slope. I think he has more freedom than he did on AI, which was a tightly run ship on which he managed to never sell out. He was masterful at keeping a perfect balance of "playing the game" and staying true to himself and true to his rock roots. Like I said, he never sold out and yet he always stayed in it as a serious contender without EVER mocking the show. That is no easy task... doing the the whole "pop" idol thing but never "crossing over" or drinking the koolaid by giving into the schmaltzy temptations of AI. He did what he was contractually obligated to do, and did everything else HIS way, right down to his final song choice. He always remained a good sport, and producers love that as well as fans. And it was always the right choice, the right instincts. I know the stakes are higher now, but that's why I think he will navigate this part of the journey just as well. He has so much respect in "the biz" already. They know he's a grown-up. Best of all he's open to guidance and help, and that kind of constructive environment will serve him (and us fans!) very well.

Well said! And I agree wholeheartedly!

Do you think David really cares about what he wears? Hey was that a new guitar David had on the tonight show?

David does care what he wears when he is performing. He said that on AI, he tried to match the clothes with the song that he was performing (even though they were advised not to do so). On Idolatry (on EW), they often commented on how well dressed he was for the performances. So I can see him matching the T-shirt to Tonight Show and the guest, Mike Myers. I don't think he was "selling out". I think he is just genuinely nice and was supportive. Plus, like someone said before "he does have that kind of sense of humor".
cookielust
^^ totally agree. i think he was being very tongue-in-cheek about it. i think it's very clever of him and he'd be proud that we got "it". LOL yeah, david, we're addicted like that.

Hey, if he doesn't mind singing about Magic Rainbows everywhere he goes, I don't think wearing that T-shirt is going to kill him.

Of course, the real question is if the real Mariska Hargitay is a cougar.

The scoop is this is another example of David's wry sense of humor. It was a plug for Mike Meyer's movie, but you had to be paying attention to get it. I thought it was funny.

All that David will be doing for the next year is singing and appearing at places where Fox tells him to go. At least he thought the Mariska Hargitay thing from the movie was a riot.
annie702
It may have been a plug for the movie, but was it a contractual obligation...or did he wear it on his own...the world may never know. LOL! It's funny how everything David does is now considered an endorsement of something or another.
valermarie
Is it possible that DC is like so many other guys I know (my bf included) and was like, "Hm, free shirt; I shall wear it."? It's possible there was more thought involved (our DC is a smart cookie!) or some sort of contractual thing but I don't care. I didn't notice what it said until someone pointed it out and I thought it was hilarious! Not sure if the movie will be but hey, everyone is entitled to shameless self-promotion, right?

And yes, Benson is my hero! She's my favorite female character ever! I've also watched the E! THS on Mariska Hargitay and it was really interesting. I can't imagine playing that character. Hats off to Mariska!
