Remember David is under contractual obligations for who knows how long... another set of handcuffs for him.
Just hoping he can hang onto his true self thru it all!
Well, at least he's said, very clearly, he knows what he signed up for. And he has demonstrated that he's very adept at navigating this kind of slippery slope. I think he has more freedom than he did on AI, which was a tightly run ship on which he managed to never sell out. He was masterful at keeping a perfect balance of "playing the game" and staying true to himself and true to his rock roots. Like I said, he never sold out and yet he always stayed in it as a serious contender without EVER mocking the show. That is no easy task... doing the the whole "pop" idol thing but never "crossing over" or drinking the koolaid by giving into the schmaltzy temptations of AI. He did what he was contractually obligated to do, and did everything else HIS way, right down to his final song choice. He always remained a good sport, and producers love that as well as fans. And it was always the right choice, the right instincts. I know the stakes are higher now, but that's why I think he will navigate this part of the journey just as well. He has so much respect in "the biz" already. They know he's a grown-up. Best of all he's open to guidance and help, and that kind of constructive environment will serve him (and us fans!) very well.
