Full Version: David Live! On the Tonight Show
David Cook > David Cook > All About David Cook

Greetings from the Jungle! Oh excuse me, I mean the Tonight Show! Before I relate any other details, I will cut right to the chase. How was David live? HE WAS A M A Z I N G!!! Everything you could hope for; you do not want to miss seeing him perform in person. He looks exactly like he does in photographs - way hot! ;-) - and sounds terriific! You always wonder with all the electronic manipulation available. One thing about him I never noticed before is that he has really white teeth. lol, guess I'm wierd.
Anyway, he didn't come out early, just right when they were ready to tape. Of course he performed 'Time of my Life'. Now I'm not a big fan of this song. I think it is cheezy and formulaic. I sincerely hope that David himself didn't choose it for his first post idol release; that he had to do this particular song. And that it isn't indicitive of what his album will sound like. All that aside, I have to say he totally sold it live. I was believing. Almost. At least I won't mind as much next time I hear it.
After he finished, everyone came out on stage and said good night like they always do.
Then, they announced David would perform another song. Hurrah!
It was 'Here Comes My Hero' by the Foo Fighters. Perfect for him. Got to rock out, do a few of those extreme guitar strums he likes to do. David did a pretty faithful version of the song, didn't really change it up or do an interpretation like he can do. Now don't get me wrong, I love the Foos and have seen them many times. But sometimes Grohl does a little too much yelling/screaming for my taste. So hearing David's unique, amazing voice sing that terrific song was just in the zone.

BTW Even though this wasn't broadcast, they did tape him singing this. If there is any way this is available, I would love to have it. Just putting it out there.

That was it. I was hoping David would hang out a little. Maybe a litle meet and greet, maybe sign some autographs. At least pose for pictures. No, nothing.
He left the stage and they herded us all out like cattle. Very disappointing. Especially since I was only a few arm lengths away from the stage. And he never looked at me. That's why you try to get close to the stage, to get a little eye contact from your idol. Right?
*sigh*

Now I know all you fanatics, me included-lol, want some specifics so here you go.
Details:
1. He had a brand new guitar. A varnished, medium tone wood appearing Gibson - don't know the model.
2. He had on a couple of new necklaces. Metal.
3. I could see the bottom of his tatoo on the underside of his left arm. It appears to be rather intricate. There are swirling, curving, heavy dark black lines of varying widths; definately some kind of pattern. Getting all that ink must have hurt! I'd really like to see the whole thing. Looks like it would be really cool.
4. I recall someone wanting to know how tall David is. He was about an inch or so taller than Leno, what ever that is.

They were extemely strict about no cameras - under penality of ejection - so I couldn't get any photos. : (
I'm so bummed!
Although, they did allow us to keep the show ticket. I don't have a scanner so I took a photograph of it. You cannot belive how many shots I took of this so I could get one without the flash reflection. That's the best I can do.

Sorry this is kinda long. I could go on and on because Cookie was just so great!
And totally worthy of being the American Idol.

I know you are disappointed that you didn't get to make eye contact with DC and I certainly would have been bummed about the lack of a photo or autograph, however, it's so cool that you were only a few feet from COOKIE! Wow! It's also encouraging to know that he was incredible as a live performer. I definately suspected that, but how nice to have it confirmed! smile.gif We could hear that he changed up TOML a bit....rocked it out a little more and that was great! I loved hearing a new take on the song. He is so talented!!

Thanks so much for posting! It's always great to hear first-hand reports of these performances.

I watched him on TV last night, stayed up just for him! He was sooooo great! I really miss seeing him every week. *sigh* It was a perfect Cookie fix. He looked like he enjoyed himself, and he also looked like he has rested up from all the pandemonium he had to endure those first couple of weeks after he won. I also enjoyed his interview with John Melendez. He is just too darn hot for his own good! Love this guy so much!
Serenity65
omg. Arms length away from Cookie! I would die!

Thanks for the review, sounds like he was just as awesome in person, probably more so!!!!

*sigh* Can't wait to see the 'real' David in concert! (Not the AI David...sorry peeps, I really want my rocker Dave!!)

'Hero' is on Leno's site, and it's probably on here as well.

Yeah, that's the AC tattoo you saw. Love that one and there are also pics of it on the board but too lazy to go get the thread link. I drool everytime I see that tattoo, i.e. ZZ top performance.

That tatoo is 'AC". You could see it under the tatoos thread and the TV Guide Interview video.

I watched it on the web and thought he was amazing. Absolutely love The Hero performance. You are so lucky to be able to watch it live and so close to him..
StitchMeUp
You're very lucky! I can't imagine being that close to him when he is performing. Aaaahhhh!

I got kind of crappy seats for the Idol tour (long story), but at least I will be there. I think if I have to leave without meeting him or at least having him look my way just once, I will fall into a deep depression! Likewise, if I do meet him I think the same thing will happen because he will then have to leave! OMG I sound like a psycho.

So anyway, I feel for you, but you have that great memory of being so close to him. There is nothing like being that close at a concert, it's phenomenal. And DC? Unfathomable.

Thanks for the review and confirmation that he rocks in person too! I can't wait for him to do his solo tour. I really hope he gets to do one next summer. In the mean time, I might have to break down and go see him in person at an AI concert because I don't know if I can wait that long!

Thanks for all the info, sounds like a great experience for the memory bank smile.gif

Here's a picture of the AC tattoo on the underside of his arm:

And for those who are curious, on IMDB it says Jay Leno is 5'11
