I really like that idea. I'm not registered on Wikipedia, but I think I will register soon and type something up. I'll post a little rough draft soon and you all can, hopefully, add some things.
Also, I created a little Facebook group for To Have Heroes if any of you would like to join:

I joined! Hooray! Thanks for making it. I'm letting some friends know about it too smile.gif

You have to visit another forum, and sign up there in order to get a Word Hero #.
Once you do that, you can go to this request thread, and you should have one within the next day or so. smile.gif

Haha. Davandy... clever smile.gif

If anyone's curious, Andy posted a video on his myspace page of an acoustic version of Reasons (I adore that song)
Here's the vid:

Cute guy. I get the impression that he is one of David's trusted friends.

Here is a story in the Tulsa World about Midwest Kings and how Andy's dad bankrolled their CD. Now, Let's see the time frame.... when did David become part of MWK. Maybe the Dad bankrolled MWK before DC?

The Midwest Kings: Unsure of the location of the party.
Calien Guhl

Below: MWK bassist Justin Briggs. See him Friday at Liquid's.
Tulsa World file

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Midwest Kings gets a boost from executive producer-dad
Dr. Robert Skib thinks his 17-year-old son Andy is doing something even more challenging than anything he's tried in life. Andy wants to make it in the music industry with his band the Midwest Kings.

Skib knows it won't be easy for his son.

"In this world, it's extremely difficult to make it because there are so many pitfalls and it's such a capricious environment out there," he said. "We believe in them so much that we're doing everything we can to make it happen for them."

The good doctor financed the band's self-titled debut album, which will be released Friday at Liquid's, and has an executive producer's credit on it.

Andy said he marvels at his father's devotion to the band.

"Sometimes I think my dad wants it more than I do," he said. "He kicks our butts and tells us to get out there and play for anyone and do anything we can."

The Midwest King's bassist Justin Briggs said Skib has the same zeal about supporting his son's band as another father might have about his son's football team.

Guitarist-lyricist Neal Tiemann said it's the little things that Skib does that mean the most to him.

"On his BMW 540, he has a Midwest Kings sticker on the paint," Tiemann said. "Man, I wouldn't even do that. That's loyalty right there."

Skib said the Midwest Kings have several things going for them, especially when it comes to songwriting. He called Tiemann a poet.

Tiemann said the album's producer, Jimmy Newquist, lead singer of the band Caroline's Spine, helped him to hone his songwriting skills.

"The thing I got out of working with Jimmy was that every one of my songs was a five-and-half minute epic, so he took them and ripped them all to pieces -- along with my pride," Tiemann said. "At first it sounded like (expletive) but then it slowly evolved into these really cool three-and-a-half minute songs that I'm really happy with."

Singing those lyrics at Yellow Dog studios is one thing. Performing them live is another for Andy. Since joining the band, Andy said he has learned to overcome his shyness -- taking a lesson from his father.

Skib also was shy in his youth, but has conquered his timidness and appeared in local productions of "Annie" and "The King and I."

"He always wanted to do that as a little kid, but he never did because he was too shy," Andy said. "Now he's grown up and he's doing that stuff so he wants me to not be shy and to not hesitate."

Briggs said he remembers Andy as a very introverted character who wouldn't look directly into the audience when he first joined the band. However, he has since overcome his stage fright.

"Now he takes the stage by force," Briggs said.

In the last year, Briggs said the band has evolved together.

"We've all become the four brothers separated at birth," he said.

With that internal support, Skib said he doesn't worry about his son, even when Andy plays gigs around town until 2 a.m. on school nights.

The only thing Skib asks is that his son stay on the honor roll at Holland Hall High School and graduate. He wants Andy to have options in life.

"If his dream doesn't pan out, it's a rough world out there," he said.

Whatever the future has in store for the Midwest Kings, Skib said he'll be there for the band.

"Obviously, we're living vicariously through our children. But, you know what? Why the hell not."

DC was with Axium until 2004. So definitely this was before DC joined MWK.

I hope Andy gets some of the success that DC is having now. He certainly has the talent.

Davandy? How about Dandy?

I've seen "Dandy" suggested elsewhere as well. I'm partial to "Davandy." No reason to leave the "V" out, right? (I'm partial to V's since it's my first letter tongue.gif) Either way, they are amazing!!
Zandra
Whoa.

I just noticed everything that comes from MWK is completely freaking amazing. David, the MWK itself and now this project.

I already iLiked THH in Facebook. I love how they have full songs to add on profiles because I hate adding those tiny clips lol.

Anyone know where I can buy the To Have Heroes stuff from the UK? (Digital is fine as shipping would probably cost more than the CD!) I don't have mySpace and when I try to buy it through Facebook I get an error message.

Thanks!

Hey. I thought I'd let you know to go to www.cdbaby.com and buy it. That would be a hard copy. But you may be able to buy the mp3's there too. Or you can go to Andy's myspace page (www.myspace.com/tohaveheroes) and click on the SNOCAP block where his songs are listed. You have to sign up for it, but it's free. And I don't think you have to have a myspace page to do it. I bought my mp3's there. Hope this helps. smile.gif

so tonight on rickey.org's live blog covering the show in fresno, he played some andy skib during intermission... the cook fans there were overwhelming! It was fantastic. I will be visiting cdbaby.com for my copy of To Have Heros, that's for sure.

Andy's cd sounds amazing. I ordered a copy and can not wait for it to arrive. Yay for another talented artist getting some much needed recognition out of Tulsa! Hopefully, he will go on tour. smile.gif

Hi
I think you can only get the hard copy from the UK. I tried to buy the digital version but it won't let you put in a UK postcode which is frustrating - the same problem i had trying to buy Axium and Analog Heart. From CDbaby the shipping is only $5 so i decided to go for iit!
Hope this helps

I tried to download from Andy's myspace page via the snocap thing, and it didn't work for me. I got through the payment part and signing into the snocap, but when I clicked on download nothing would get downloaded. It would just show a check by the song name. I am bummed. Don't know what went wrong. I searched my entire hard drive and found nothing. sad.gif

The same thing happened to me. I had to go to snocap's website and log in. To the left, there's a menu and I clicked on something like "transactions" and the list of songs came up. When I clicked on each song, they started downloading. I hope this helps.

Can somebody ask Andy Skib who signed DC's hat? We already asked Andrew and he doesn't know!!! sad.gif So aside from asking David in person again, Andy might know! If anyone finds out can you post on the main DC forum? Thank you!!!

I'll give it a shot... if he gets the gig at the Roxy in West Hollywood firmed up several of us in this forum (and some friends of mine) are going to see him (July 29th). We'll probably meet him that night. I can also try emailing him... we've emailed each other a few times... but I know he's kind of swamped with that.

Attn all Southern California word heroes: if you want to join us to see Andy at the Roxy, PM me! I can park several cars at my condo and we can walk the 1/2 mile down the Sunset Strip. I'm 1/2 block south of the Strip.. and BOOT STAR!

bump just because andy skib is plain amazing.

i just bought his to have heroes ep today on snocap... his voice and writing style is so beautiful!!

i can't wait to see what he does in the future...

Don't know if you saw the link in the topic about the signature on DC's hat.
It's signed by a guy named Mike Portnoy who plays in a band called Dream Theater. They're big in the UK and have done some touring around the US.
Here's the link to the picture of them.

Do you guys know about the promo squads that Andy Skib's management group is setting up? You can post which state/city you live in and when they book a show for Andy in your area, they can easily contact you about helping out with the show if they need someone to do local promotion/flyer distribution or merchandise sales. There are also a lot of good promotional ideas outlined in the site for getting Andy's music in front of more people (as well as a few tips for things you should avoid). The forum was just set up over the 4th of July weekend. Here's where you go to register:

http://tohaveheroes.proboards83.com/index.cgi

Once you register, look for the promo squads subforum at the bottom and click on United States, then find your state and start a thread there with your city name in the title (if no one has done it yet).

Just meandered over there and registered.... no one's signed up for a promo squad in Va, but ya have to have a MYSpace account and since I'm a computer-challenged old lady, I don't have one... guess I could set one up - LOL! Nice to see the groundswell that Andy's starting to get - can't wait for my CD to arrive! I've been placating myself with my MWK today...

Hey, you guys should post these around try to get more people to the WH boards.
Sorry if they have been posted before. I didn't exactly read through all the pages. Haha.

I just got my THH CD from CDBaby and it's been on repeat for the past hour - can't think of an appropriate adjective to describe it, my wordnerdness is at a loss it's SO GOOD! If you don't already have it - make haste to CDBaby and order it or download from Andy's MySpace... GO... NOW!

Another AMAZING discovery (and one reason why I really like hard copy CD's - the cover or liner notes that give the writing credits) - he actually collaborated with Jason Mraz on one song - Story of Your Life. Jason Mraz is one my all time favorite artists and he's from my hometown!

WOW! Hope Andy tours sometime - here's a new artist that I really don't want to miss from the very beginning!
