Full Version: What time should i be there?
David Cook > David Cook > 2008 American Idols Live Tour
DiBo
Hey people! I have heard from people that 7 hours early is the way to go. But should i be in front of the stadium? How early should i be? This is my first ai concert and i'm super excited and i convinced my friend that we may need to get there 7 hours early, but i dont want to wait and turn out that i cant greet them. So is this 7 ours early thing true? I just want to make sure. smile.gif
DavidCookieFan15
are you talking about so you can meet them? I really want to know too. but the sad thing is that my parents said they weren't gonna go super early so my chances of meeting david have just been blown out the window

DavidCookieFan15
I really hope they will tame there early.. I don't want to meet him.. I NEED to meet him. I will beg for days if I have 2.

from my past experiences with going to concerts early to try and meet the artist - it really varies and there is no guarantee. it all depends where they are coming from the night before. it might take longer, or less time to get to the next venue so there is no saying how long in advance you need to be there. all i can really say is you have to be willing to wait and wait if you want to try and meet them. get there as early as possible so you know if the busses pulled up yet. but like i said, there is no guarantee they will even come out, all we can hope for is that they do!

good luck!
DavidCookiemonster
I would get there at like 12:00 just to be safe. But like the previous poster said there is no gurantee they will come out and if they do they might wave and be in a hurry. Totally depends.

Really? What do you think about 2?
I'm getting there at 2 and I know there's no guaruntee, but I'm going to the very first show.
I'm really wondering about that.
So, I'm calling the arena the day before to find out as much info as I can.
I would suggest that to everyone. Call your arena to find out! They're bound to say SOMETHING usefull. smile.gif

Yeah, that's what has happened from my past experiences. Sometimes they just rush by and wave. Occasionally (though I doubt David would be one of these types), they'll completely ignore the fans, while walking past them, and even stopping near them. (I'm still slightly bitter from a past experience, if you can't tell)

Arenas won't be able to tell you much, I don't think. They definitely couldn't tell you the odds of the Idols meeting fans. The best thing to do is just to come early, figure out (by sight) where the buses will be parking, and the best place to stand to get you noticed.

According to my photos from last year (at the San Diego concert) the Idols began meeting fans at 12:30, so 12 is a pretty good time to arrive.
Also, if the buses go into a tunnel/underground, they're much less likely to go meet the fans (at least beforehand; I've no idea what the habits of meeting afterward are.)

I wonder, in the past, have many Idols come out before the first few shows? I know they come out after most shows, but I just don't know if they're into the swing of it at the beginning. Has anyone here been to one of the first shows in the past?

DavidCookiemonster
Youre are 100 percent right about if the buses go in a tunnel or a garage. I went a venue once and beforehand it was pretty much a lost cause but afterwards they did.

Well, that's good information. smile.gif Thank you.
I'm getting there as early as possible. I don't mind having to wait for hours on end. haha. I don't know where the busses go in Glendale. I'm worried that they might be underground though.
I'll be at the arena early and leave late. That's for sure!
This is my first AI concert though. So I dunno about the first shows. I would certainly hope so.

Since I'm going to the Aug 30th show in K.C. which is the second night they'll be in Kansas city. I might get more of a chance or not to meet them. Don't know if they will be out and about more since they will already be established. Wish I knew where they might be staying and hanging out waiting for the second day. May have to go up the first day and be on the lookout. Anybody have any suggestions? Deeply appreciated:)
DavidCookiemonster
This is a tip:) Most Celebs or musicans rather........ Stay at four star hotels.Basically you wouldn't find them at a Days Inn or something similar ( not that there is anything wrong with Days Inn) But majority of musicans will stay at a nice hotel and if you are going the hotel route ( get there super duper early) As as in most cases check-out is noon.My one friend always manages to go to hotels when celebs or musicians come into town.
lindzluffsacookie
It makes it so much harder for me because I'm going to the first show! So I have no idea if they'll even be in a hotel!

haha thanks! I knew my waiting around before Idol shows would pay off sooner or later! (oh, wait, I guess it already did, since I've met Idols before, huh? lol)
just thought I'd add that the later concerts may have a better idea of when and who will come out beforehand or afterwards, should you choose to read recaps. In the past, I've often found a general time of when they come out (most distant is within an hour range, and that's the most distant, at least in the past, from what I've read.)

I'm dying to find out where they are staying in DC!

They perform in Baltimore on 8/12, nowhere on 8/13 and DC on 8/14. So I'm thinking they will likely be in DC on 8/13 and 8/14. Problem is there are a lot of 4 star hotels in and around the Verizon Center ... unsure.gif

Anyone have connections to find out? smile.gif

Aww, you're lucky to have such a great mom who knows how important DC is to you. And it's nice to hear a kid speak so nicely about her mother. smile.gif

Me, I am going to be there as early as it takes. I'm going with my best friend and our 4 daughters. My 13 year old is a big fan, and my 10 year olds are just regular fans, and I'm the biggest fan of all. I hope I don't embarrass my kids when I meet him...or worse, if I don't. I will probably cry either way!

Let's hear it for awesome moms, I'm taking my kid down early, not sure if I am more into it or her though to be honest. Yes, bringing crossword puzzles is a good idea!

i would feel so bad cause we r leaving early the day of the concert like 7 am. then once we reach the place i wanted to go straight to the stadium which she said is fine. but i dont want to wait for like 7 hours and in the end not meet him. i would feel SOOOO guilty. lol and my friend is coming and she really doesnt want to wait 7 hours but she is willing to do it for me...as long as i dont start crying if i do meet him...which i cant agree to biggrin.gif
lindzluffsacookie
I'm doing the DC Challenge with BLake so I have to find out what time the buses arrive! lol.
Only problem is: I'm going to the first show.

Siiigh. I really wanna meet them sad.gif
But I don't know the times for anything.
CookieHoney
I doubt we'll be able to get there early enough to meet the Idols for the L.A. show. I'm taking half the day off, which already cuts into my chances, and my hubby isn't into the whole fan thing (he's coming with me), so I'll have to convince him to take us to the show a few hours early, because parking is going to be a you-know-what.

Hell, I'm just pumped that we're even going, so who am I to b*tch about "will I get to meet the Idols?" even if it would be very cool to get to.

You took the words right out of my mouth! I'm so seasoned with the concert circuit, I couldn't have said it better myself.

On the other hand - I DON'T have tickets and I'm still going to go up to the venue. The show is on a Sunday, so there is NO EXCUSE for me to NOT be there. However, I'm not getting crazy and getting there at like 10pm the night before - I'm getting WAY too old for that. So, I'll try my luck whenever I do get to the venue. Who knows, maybe I'll even score tickets and get to see the show..

Whoever said mom is just as excited is on to something. My 15 year old is disgusted with me, but I'm thinking she is just not admitting that she thinks he's hot too. Just too creepy to agree with me on this! But she is coming and I hope I don't embarass the heck out of her when I start crying too-I just can't help it, he moves my very soul with anything he sings!

As far as what scent he smells like (Best Week Ever DA smell question! smile.gif ) I am dying to know also. Can you imagine if he comes out with his own fragrance? Get in line now! tongue.gif

PS- a lot of people are talking about "when they meet him" like it's a done deal. I'm thinking it would be virtually impossible. I've never been to an AI show before, but I'm thinking the old rules won't apply-DC is in a league of his own, and unless some tour veterans can tell me I'm wrong, I see the chance being pretty remote, even if you're there days ahead! Unless of course you have some sort of backstage connection or win a meet & greet pass. Any comments on this? If I'm wrong, I'll be there with y'all!

Hi Allison:

I think at the Prudential Center - I don't think it is going to be that easy because of the location of the venue.

Something to think about as well, over the next couple of weeks I am sure that WPLJ-95.5 should be holding contests for tickets and meet and greet after the show - so I know that there are thousands of us in tri-state area that will be keeping our ears to the radio to see if we are lucky enough.

What we should do is keep our eyes and ears open for when David starts doing the media tour for the CD and when he comes back to NY - we should do a field trip and try to see him then.

...Annette
DavidCookiemonster
That's how it is at the venue I live by.It's nearly imposible to meet anyone there. My friend has been meeting people at various venues for 10 years now and he has never met anyone at the venue the idols are playing. He usually goes to thier hotel.Sounds crazy but he has met alot of people that way
DavidCookieFan15
well if we should get there at noon I know I will not be able to meet them because my mother said she refuses to be there that early.
DavidCookiemonster
You can get there around 230 or even 400 and it would be cool. From what I've seen Soundchecks usually start at 500 and they always go back to their bus afterwards.Or you could meet them afterwards too but expect that too be super chaotic. That is why personally I like meeting them beforehand

I don't have tickets yet either, but I'm waiting till the day of or night before to get them. I'd say like, 90% of the time, they release blocks of REALLY GOOD seats right before the show, even if they were previously 'sold out'. I was front row Justin Timberlake twice doing that, and my mom was 5th row Paul McCartney. So If you get there day of, I'd say you'd be fine getting tickets....hopefully.

As far as meet and great, maybe they'll do a sponsored one. The whole, win wrist bands to meet them back stage ordeal. I'm sure AI.com will announce something, or the radio stations will closer to the date.

Everyone keeps telling me that, so I think I'm going to end up waiting until the morning off to buy tickets. The only thing is - I wanted to help with the ACS booth - but I can't promise to do that without even having tickets yet.
annieeeee.
so everyone thinks that 12 PM is a good time to get there if you want to meet them ?
if there's anyone going to the minneapolis show, i would really appreciate it if you have any information that would be helpful towards this.
i've gone to the tour 3 years in a row now, but i haven't tried getting downtown early before.
here's to hoping my mom will say yes to going down there and hopefully some good will come out of it.

So if we go down there early in hopes of meeting them, where exactly do you hang out and wait? Of course that's different for every place, but like how do you know where to go? Do you just keep an eye out or what?
DavidCookiemonster
Yup.You see Buses and people hanging out then you know where to go. However,Like I said and other posters said if the buses are underground,in a fenced area, Garage or in a really secure area you will not be able to go near them. But if they aren't in a fenced off area and in public view you should have no problem.Venues differ from place to place

I'm just jealous all you guys can at least get the CHANCE to maybe meet them or see them... I'm going to the first KC show on 8/29 (whoooooooooo yeah!!!) but it's on a Friday night, which means I'll be heading there after school. And since there's no way my parents let me skip to hang out at the Sprint Center all day, unless I get to hang around afterwards to see what happens, it's a no go for me to see DC. sad.gif But I hope the rest of you guys get to!
