There's a lot of talk all over the internet about how it would be best if David didn't win, cause that would give him more artistic control over his music. Many people are saying they will not vote for him if (when) he makes the final two just for that reason.
I wish I knew what David wanted, cause I'm confused!

well
it probably would be better if he
didn't win
only because the winner is under the control of AI and they don't have much freedom with what they want to do..
it's like taylor hicks, he disagreed with everything they gave him and he wanted to do it all his way, so they dropped him..
but then again, there are successful AI winners, kelly, carrie, jordin...
but i'm sure he does want to win
even if he doesn't, we'll still be seeing alot more of him.

The way I see it, he's in it to win it. VOTE FOR HIM!!!!
If he wins and gets bound by AI, he can break the contract if he needs to, can't he? Or work with them somehow. Isn't that what Kelly C. did and maybe others? I see him as being so intelligent, aware, experienced, and he just has his reasons for getting on this show.
He knows what he's doing and he'll know what to do when and if he wins (which he should by miles and miles).

^ Agreed.
If he didn't want to win, do you think he would have auditioned, & put his everything into performances, & what he's doing?
If he didn't want it, he could just leave probably, & just rig it so it looked like he got voted off. But I think he's DEFINITELY in it to win it.
So he might lose a bit of control on his album, but none the less, if a record label dropped him, I'm positive there would be MANY more ready to snag him up because he's got a HUGE fan base, & that means plenty of record sales & money for any company.
I hope he wins, but if he doesn't I'm pretty sure he's still a winner either way, 'cause he'll have an awesome career.

Yeah I also think he wants to win. If he didn't, he wouldn't maybe be there.

If he wins, he will maybe be under the control and like that, but I think he knows what he wants, so if they try to make him do something that he doesn't want, i guess he will tell that to them and do what's best for him. And if he doesn't win, he will still have a great career as a musician.

Thanks very much for that Amy. I can't vote unfortunately but I hope that everyone who can does as much as possible. David deserves to win American Idol and if he doesn't I don't want it to be because his fans hadn't done their very best to keep him there. That would be such a big mistake. Hopefully TPTB can see how talented he is and will allow him input on what is put on his first album post AI.

Looks like we need to start spreading the word that he really does want this. There's a HUGE movement on the internet that really believes they shouldn't vote for him to win, for his own good. I belong to many boards where that is the general consensus.
I'm off to spread the word. DAVID FTW!

They said that about Blake too last season. Honestly, after Idol, it's all up to the individual. If they have the crowd appeal and want to make it in the business, they will. They have to have enough of a fan base to support them directly after Idol, of course...but look at Daughtry. It is possible to be successful without winning...although I would like to see a rocker win AI - and that rocker being DAVID!

Thanks Amy.. that makes perfect sense to me and I am hoping that it makes all of his fans vote twice as hard for him!
I know that I will!!
He deserves to win and not just because he is the most talented, but also because he seems like a genuine, nice guy who really just wants to make music and perform for his fans. I am so glad that he decided to audition and is so willing each week to share his amazing voice with all of us. I look forward to his performances, as they just continue to show how TRULY talented he is and proves that he is on his way to becoming a HUGE Rock Star!
Please tell him that Rebecca says Hi and I am one of his biggest fans and that I wish him all the best and that I will vote for him like crazy and I am telling everyone I know to vote for him too!
I sure would love to meet him someday and tell him that I love his music and then maybe ask him out on a date...
Hey, a girl can dream can't she? Well, thanks again Amy for the message and I will be sure to spread the news to everyone I know...
DAVID COOK FOR THE WIN, BABY!!!!

Actually, didn't he audition to support his brother?? I'm sure now that he's got this far he does want to go all the way, but I'm still not convinced its the right thing...
And, Amy is not related to David, shes a poser and a sad one at that.

I think he wants to win - I think they all do. Whether he should or not is a complex question, because the publicity and success he has earned thus far from Idol can go for or against him in any number of ways. An Idol loss could bring in not as many offers as people think (though I think any record company would be idiotic not to give him an offer), or he could become the next Chris Daughtry and have it be the best thing to happen to his musical career. A win may lock him into a record deal with not as much creative control as he'd like, or it may be exactly what he wants in a record deal. It's really up in the air at this point.

His *real* family and friends confirm that he very much wants to win--think I saw it on the site run by his friends: davidcooktheamericanidol.com. There is also a facebook group run by one of his brothers and some others who know him, and they say the same thing. Both are great sites if you haven't checked them out already...

I also heard from IDF (Idolforums) that he's in the "dangerzone". Please do not let this happen. We don't want another great performer slip before our hands. We've already lost Malubay.

maybe he needs to be in the bottom three for the first time, so that he'll work harder next time if he gets through this week..
