Full Version: David Cook: Master of the Falsetto... Fluid... Seamless..
David Cook > American Idol Archive > Episode Discussions: During American Idol
smallville

When David Cook and David Archuleta, during the Finale, sang a duet of a Chad Kroeger original Hero, everybody was surprised about how well the two Davids' voices blended, but mostly especially with how David Cook did his amazing falsetto.... Women got weak on their knees... Hearts did little cartwheels... Fans felt goosebumps all over....

David Cook is so versatile that he even mastered the very difficult falsetto.... His transition is so fluid.... seamless.... It's like art.

Where else did we hear David Cook doing the falsetto? Why don't we list these songs and preferably provide the corresponding parts/lyrics where he did falsetto.

Example:

"HERO"

I am so high, I can hear heaven.
I am so high, I can hear heaven.
Oh but heaven, no heaven don't hear me.

And they say that a hero can save us.
I'm not gonna stand here and wait.
I'll hold on to the wings of the eagles.
Watch as we all fly away.

Someone told me that love would all save us.
But how can that be?
Look what love gave us.
A world full of killing, and blood-spilling, that
world never came.

And they say that a hero can save us.
I'm not gonna stand here and wait.
I'll hold on to the wings of the eagles.
Watch as we all fly away.

Now that the world isn't ending, it's love that I'm sending to you.
It isn't the love of a hero, that's why I fear it won't do.

And they say that a hero can save us.
I'm not gonna stand here and wait.
I'll hold on to the wings of the eagles.
Watch as we all fly away.

And they're watching us (Watching us)
They're watching us (watching us) as we all fly away.
And they're watching us (Watching us)
They're watching us (watching us) as we all fly away.
And they're watching us (Watching us)
They're watching us (watching us) as we all fly away.

The falsetto was a nice touch and really added something that wasn't done in the original. I really wished they had done the bridge of the song because there, Chad hits his falsetto as well and it would've been interesting to see David do the same.

I still can't get over the fact that they did "Hero", though. A few days prior to that, I was in the middle of listening to it on Music Choice and thought that DC would sound perfect singing it and sure enough he did! "Hero" is one of my all time favorite songs ever

I love the falsetto (and almost a near yodel!) that DC does at the very end of TWIK. That makes me weak in the knees every time I hear it! The range in David's voice is absolutely amazing.

Little Sparrow.
DRC
i love everytime he did the falsetto or high note
but my fav is in Hero and Little Sparrow
smallville
Yep. Yep. Little Sparrow.

Every time he would hit the last note of the first Sparrow, I thought this David Cook is so incredible. His false was so great that even Randy and Paula were very impressed.

I never heard the original Dolly Parton version. But hearing David's version, it seems like a David Cook original. Not even a trace of a country song. Paula even said that it was the first time she heard a male artist doing Little Sparrow.

Actually, Little Sparrow is now my incoming SMS tone, replacing Always Be My Baby. That first "Little Sparrow" always alerts me on incoming message. biggrin.gif

Yes, he did. And that is one of my favorite performances. Very emotional.

His false in The World I Know is one of the best. When he hit that note in "-RING" in "Love is gathering," it just blew me away. Just like the subtitle of this thread, the transition was very fluid and seamless. It was amazing! And the last "KNOW." Wow! That gave me the chills. I just never get tired or listening of watching his The World I Know performance on the AI7 Finals. There's only a handful of songs that has moved or almost moved me to tears. One of them is David Cook's The World I Know. It was so heavy and emotional, sad and haunting, moving and sensitive. The whole performance speaks volumes. You can feel the meaning in each line in the lyrics. The message it wants to convey just touches one's heart.

He is the best singer ever, he has a perfect voice, he knows how to work with it, love all his notes.

I never liked male singers that sang in falsetto before DC came along. Past contestants like Ace Young annoyed me when they used it, but Cookie changed my mind. tongue.gif It just sounds better on him for some reason...he has the perfect combination of different elements in his voice that makes his false not only bearable but extremely enjoyable.

My favorite falsetto from him is either Little Sparrow or TWIK...the end of TWIK was just awesome.

I'm no singer so I may be mistaken, but is there a bit of falsetto strewn through TMotN? That song shows great range, I know that for sure, but I'm not sure if it's falsetto I'm hearing or just him singing in the upper part of his normal range...I'm sure that isn't the technical way to explain that, but I hope you can see what I'm getting at. tongue.gif

NO ONE could top his false or rather his high note end at the end of FTEISYF. Loved the song, loved his emotion when he sang it. simon did a real favour for him by choosing that song.
