So kinda off of the best rock song..
But who in your opinion is the best; singer, guitarist, bassist etc of all time..

So my votes;

Best Guitarist- Steve Vai, when this guy played 'For the Love of God' I had goosebumps, he musicianship and emotion..WOW

Best Drummer- Mike Portnoy of Dream Theatre, not only for his drumming but the fact he writes a large majority of the lyrics since Kevin Moore left the band.

Best Bassist- John Paul Jones of Led Zepplin, often over looked because of Page and Plant, but is the backbone to the rhythm section!

Best Singer- Gonna divide this to male and female...

Male- Freddie Mercury, before, during and since this man came into our lives he has touch us all with his tonality, lyrical genius and unique performance. There will never be another, when he sang we all believed him..

Female- This is tough as there are so many, but I would have to choose Sarah McLachlan. On a personal level her music has touched me more than any other by a female musician. On a technical side her vocals are flawless and the emotion she conveys in each song makes it impossible to not believe she is one of the best singer/songwriters of all time.

Your opinions guys?

To me, the best musician of all time is my friend Matthew Gilbert.
He never got famous out of Arizona, but he should have been.
He was so humble and had amazing talent and his view on life was spectacular. He was so in love with the world around him and appreciated life, never taking anything for granted.
He was a fabulous writer and had the voice of an angel.
Enamored by DC!!!!
Best Male Singer, I would say Freddie Mercury (great showman too!) Best Female Singer, Christina Aguilera (she's a petite girl with big pipes! and when she was younger, doing star search or the mickey mouse club whatev it was SHE SOUNDED THE SAME!) these two are phenomenal!

i have to think about everyone else though lol......

Wow, tough ones. Well, here goes:

Best Guitarist: Without a doubt, Jimmy Page. Eddie VH is a close second, but Page and the whole 12-string guitar bit, plus the violin bow. He's just amazing.

Best Drummer: John Bonham. Although, not as well known, I'd have to say the late Bobby Chouinard as well. Drummed for years for Billy Squier and actually busted the drum kit on his audition.

Best Bassist: Jaco Pastorius. The man was a genius.

Best Male Singer: Owww, this hurts. Too many. I totally agree with Freddy Mercury, but I have to go with Robert Plant, because of his versatility. He's got a hot album right now with Allison Krauss, plus his legendary status with Zep. If sex had a voice, it would be Plant's. Listening to him still makes me shiver.

Best Female Singer: As far as the rock genre goes, I'll have to say Pat Benetar. She's been out of circulation for a while, but her operatic training sends her voice into places other singers can't go. And she still looks DAMN good!
David Cook's Biatch!!!
Best Guitarist : Jimi Hendrix

Best Drummer : Travis Barker

Best Bassist : umm, dunno yet tongue.gif

Best Singer : mmhh, there's a lot of genre of music..n they are great at their own music...

I think when it comes to musicians, the ones that stay true to themselves and have a.) the passion for what they're doing and b.) a connection and a heart for their fans are always the best.
I've seen and known so many bands that are horrible to fans and they weren't very good to listen to.

Best Guitarist- SLASH - Formally of Guns N' Roses. What more do I need to say? I've met him and seen him live and he is amazing.

Best Drummer- Lars - from Metallica. That guy knows how to keep a beat!!!

Best Bassist- John Paul Jones - I have to agree on that one!

Best Singer- I'll do both too!

Male- Matthew Bellamy - from MUSE! He has one of those voices that gives you goosebumps and soothes at the same time.

Female- Tarja Turunen - formally of the Finnish band Nightwish. She mixed heavy goth metal with opera. Her voice was so chilling and clear and beautiful!

Good answers! Hadn't thought of Matt Bellamy...Saw him live a few years back and he was going between keyboard and guitar all whilst singing, pretty amazing to watch!
