ET showed the Idols rehearsing. They did a *quick* interview with David who said that he was doing four songs from the show and a fifth song he had wanted to do during the show -- but he didn't want to tell them, he wanted to keep it as a surprise for the fans.

Any thoughts? My Hero? OR might it be OPEN ARMS?!?!?! He mentioned in that radio interview (Portland?) that he had wanted to do OA all season but that it never quite fit, couldn't time it right. Dare I hope that this might be what our favorite rocker has in store? If it is, I'd just keel over and faint, I think. Can't even wrap my brain around the perfection that would be a Cookified version of OA . . .

then again, it'll probably be My Hero. The band was rockin' that out on TTSw/JL -- clearly well rehearsed. Hmmmmm...........think-think-think-think.

Open Arms? As in Journey's Open Arms? I know that he did mention on an interview or two that he had wanted to do Journey on the show, but could not get clearence in time.

Either Heroes or Open Arms - I will be in my glory - I'll be in my glory David's whole set. Sigh....

Im sure any song he choose it will be awesome, he rocks all.

Last year, Jordin Sparks sang an original song on Tour. Since DC has already written 7 new songs, shouldn't we expect a new one on tour? When Tour is over, his album will be released. I'm betting on a NEW ORIGINAL song!

Eh I hope he gets to do something REALLY rocking - all of the other songs that he's singing are pretty much ballads or power ballads, I'd love him to do something really big and slamming rocking.

Yeah, I'd say so, too. We know he wanted to do the song during the show b/c he said so in KC during homecoming. And he does kinda need an uptempo song in his set. Plus, during TTSw/JL, it definitely rocked and it definitely sounded tight (like they'd been rehearsing).

My guess is he might mix it up -- do My Hero some shows, maybe The World I Know for some, maybe something from the new album when he's ready for a few other shows.

That tUbe vid that's embedded in this thread is not what I saw on the show that aired. The clip I saw showed more of the group and David by himself being interviewed. That's when he said he was keeping the other song as a surprise.

If it's a cover, what about something by Depeche Mode? Could be a little edgy for Idol tour (I would love to hear it!) but I remember Adam's wife saying in an interview that David had been trying to get clearance to play DM on the show, but they wouldn't allow it. DM was a request from Adam.

It seems there were actually two things, the online video posted here, and then there was a different very short piece on television tonight on Entertainment Tonight. It was on the TV where he said he was going to do a new song.

Whatever song it is I am sure it will be wonderful.

I am thinking that once he is on that stage - the crowd is not going to let him get off....so he'll probably have a few songs in his playlist in addition to the 5.

OMG... seriously Open Arms??? I'm a HUGE Journey fan and have said to my family and friends I could so hear David singing OA... I would die if he sang it.. having a hot flash as I think about it right now!!!

Normally I just lurk around here (but really enjoy all the Cookie info I get here... I'm a little obsessed) but I had to come in and comment that if his 5th song is something from Journey then some-one's going to have to peal me up off the floor in Fresno when he does it... To say I love Journey is an understatement and I've long thought that DC's voice would be great on those songs. I have to admit that I've found that on many things I like DC's versions better than the originals... totally happened with Don't Want to Miss a Thing... I had in my CD with the original in the other day and though OMG when did this song (which is one of my all time fav's) become something that I only want to here DC sing....

That said (and with my preference to here him do Journey) I agree that we may here something more "rock'n" and up beat as the surprise.. but who knows... Is it July 3rd yet...

Thank you for the welcome, I've been wanting to jump in for a while (and DC and Journey I couldn't resist) but was a little Leary of coming in so "late" to the game, though I've been lurking for a long time.... Please do share what his song set is after Glendale! (I'm hopeing that it's more than 5 songs too...) every concert I've ever been to has the proverbial "encore" and I'm wondering how that works with idol, it is a set, "set" with no room for deviation or can there be some "play" at the end...

While I'm out of lurking another question, I read somewhere on here that in the past the winner doesn't do anything except his/her set I'm hopeing that is wrong cause I really want to see DC with some of the other top 10 (I'd love to see him and MJ or CS do something together!)

Well if all it takes is the crowd reaction making him stay, we should have him on for at least a dozen!!

I am a Journey fan, but Open Arms is not in my top 5. Have always loved Faithfully, would will be a puddle on the floor if he ever did that one. But since he mentioned Open Arms I guess that would be it if he went with Journey.

Oh, was there ever a clip of his audition with the song "I'll Be"? I think where says "I got you this time Simon"?

I'm getting *so* excited for Glendale. I had to book the car from the airport to hotel today, and I got giddy when they started putting timeframes in terms of "8 days" or "10 days" WHOA.

Wow, you are flying to see the show? Are you seeing more than one show? I can't believe the tour starts in 10 days!!! God, do I wish I was going to be on that bus (rushes off to get certified to drive a tour bus in hopes of driving David around).

I'm excited to hear anything from him but if he ends up singing Open Arms I think I will need a stretcher to leave on. I just don't know that I can handle him singing such a romantic love song and my knees not totally giving out on me. My husband already thinks I am way overboard at how obsessed I am, if I totally pass out at the concert I'm not sure he will ever let me live it down!!

In regards to Journey - I heard that their lead singer now is a philipino who has a voice just like Steve Perry and is really awesome - sorry I digressed.

And that's coming from someone who thinks Steve Perry can walk on water. A voice unlike any other. (And I'm sure my love and appreciation for Steve Perry has absolutely everything to do with the fact that Don't Stop Believin' was the song that was playing in the car as I sat in the backseat and fell in love with my brother's BFF, John F., six years my senior and oh-so-hottttt -- and sweet. Still love him -- and Steve Perry -- dearly.)

The coronation song has already been released, shipped to radio, and gone gold. There is absolutely no reason to release it *again*.

It sounds like Cookie has boatloads of material to choose from for his album - remastered AH stuff, stuff from the UR second solo album, the new songs he's written - so they may have to wade through what's available before we hear any of it.
