That was a call recorded from the caller's end, from Idol Gives Back, when the Idols were answering phones for the people calling in to pledge money to the cause. That caller lucked out big time, getting David on the line, because the phones would be answered by the first available line.

haha... i laughed we he said "say what?" my mom used to get so angry with me back when i was a teenager because i would always say that to her when i didn't hear her. she also used to hate "what happened?" it was like my goto response to everything.

Say what made me laugh too .... lol. Lucky girls ... he handled a somewhat awkward conversation like a pro. Very gracious.
