Hey! I was wondering... I would like to start guitar and would like to have the same acoustic guitar as David! What brand is his acoustic that he uses...not the electric one. The acoustic one please! Thank you! smile.gif

Well throughout the show he had about 4 acoustics.

The first was an Ibanez AEL10LE- This was the black one played during hollywood week and also the one smashed in the pictures.

The other two I am not sure of.

The newest one played at the walmart thing and Taste for a cure and The View is also an Ibanez.

I thought the one played at Jay Leno was a Fender but I am not sure.

I don't think you want to start off using the same guitar David has now. His latest plain looking one (wood and a pick guard) is an expensive Gibson. As in several thousand dollars. I don't know which model it is but I can tell it's expensive by the way it looks and sounds. You don't want to start off with such an expensive guitar, in case you don't like it or don't stick with it. I don't know what brand his recent fancier looking guitar (also has designs on it) is. That's also a good one, I would guess just slightly lower than the Gibson. The only other acoustic one I can think of is his black one that he started off with. That one was less expensive, I would guess $200 - $300, but you can really tell the difference in the way it sounds.

If you're really serious about starting, don't get a cheap one from Wal Mart either. The really cheap ones are hard to play. Spend at least $100. $200 - $300 would be a better place to start. You could go into a guitar store and say that you're interested in starting to play and the salesman would have good suggestions. I'm sure they get questions like that all the time. If you buy a used one, I would suggest shopping around in a guitar store first to get a feel for things so that you buy a good one for your needs.

Gibsons can be very expensive... that's what sucks.
I suggest, never EVER get a beginners guitar, get one thats about $200 bucks or so. give or take.
Beginners guitars okay but once you get good or familiar with it you have to go out and get a great sounding guitar... you dont have to spend thousands of bucks on it either.

Thats what I think anyways.
Get one that has a good sound to begin with but not too expensive.
I agree that if you spend way too much money and are just learning you may not like it and you're out that money unless you sell the guitar but lets face it... once you buy it and take it out that door, you're no longer looking at the regular face value, it will decline in its value! which sucks!

Hopefully that helps.

There are some cheap gibsons out there, you just have to know where to look.
Yahamas are good too.....

Glad to see I'm not the only newbie to guitars. I just got my restrung lefty today. Costed me $38! They said it'd run about $20. Supposedly they had to retrofit some things. I don't know, mine's a Yamahah classical though. Had it 11 years and decide now's the time to play.

Hello. There was a very comprehensive thread on David's gutiar collection not too long ago - complete with pix. Check it out.

And again, thanks to the guitar experts who helped solve those mysteries! So interesting.

I looked up DC's Gibson Acoustic Electric Hummingbird the other day -- it sells for $2,529. I've been wondering whether it's something David splurged on with his first big post Idol paycheck or if the company or someone gave it to him. Either way it's beautiful.

I stand corrected.

My one friend sometimes does buy her guitars, and has them made for her.
But usually a lot of the time companies will give them to the her and any other artist so they can be seen and people will be like
"I love that, I want that guitar"...

So who knows... They could have given him the guitar or he may have purchased it.
But regardless, even if i was a millionaire, i think 2 grand for a guitar is way too much.
Unless its for that Gibson Robot is it called, where it can tune itself and hold 6 different tunes in the guitar so if you play a certain song it will remember how the guitar is supposed to be tuned.. helps a lot of musicians but at the same time ruins the guitar since the whole point of the guitar is for you to do all of that by hand! anyways that guitar last year was 4 grand... probably has come down in price, but you know.
I think maybe once in your lifetime its okay to splurge on something, but thats just throwing money away when there are just as good guitars being produced for lets say $500 bucks. i would rather pay $500 than 2K... but that's my opinion smile.gif

Sorry, I disagree. There is a world of difference between a $500 guitar and a $2000 guitar. If you are a good guitar player and can afford it (poor David couldn't afford it until now) you buy an expensive guitar. They're easier to play, they sound better, and they make you sound better. $2000 is average to low in the world of high-end guitars.
