Full Version: My Accoustic Theory
David Cook > David Cook > All About David Cook
Scott
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think "My Hero" (on "The Tonight Show" 2 weeks ago) was the last time DC rocked a song. If so, I have a theory. He's wisely chosen to go acoustic on every performance these past two weeks to give his voice a rest before the tour. The Walmart and Taste for a Cure events probably would be acoustic anyway because they didn't have full bands there. But he also chose to go acoustic on "The View" and didn't even sing on Kimmel. What do y'all think?

Hi Scott:
Your theory is a good one.

The last two events (Taste for the Cure and the View) the acoustic version was perfect - especially the setting for Taste for the Cure and the View - as we know there was no backup band.

Though I would love to hear the accoustic version on the concert of TOML - there will be a back up band so the rock version is a possibility. Who knows - will all know when we start going.

If that's so, he can rest his voice for all eternity for all I care. His acoustic performance is breathtaking and although I do like his rockin' style, if I could only have one David I'd opt for acoustic!

Agreed! No complaints about DC going acoustic. That style works so well with his entire persona. He's a brillaint singer. Not just a great voice. A great singer... which means great voice plus great phrasing, interpretation, and emotion. He inhabits the songs. Many of us have said Archie has a great voice (arguably, technically the best with perfect pitch). But DC is the better singer.

Who knows - even during the 13+ weeks of the tour - he may change things around - meaning depending on the concert - he may do a rock version or an accoustic version - it may not be a cookie-cutter (sorry for pun) for each show.

I really hate to be a Word Rag but... the word acoustic is spelled A-C-O-U-S-T-I-C not A-C-C- as has been written in every one of these posts......... sorry to be such a NERD!

Wouldn't a Word Nerd appreciate that pun? I expect David, like most great musicians, likes to change up each performance. That's why we buy the live versions and studio versions of our favorite artists' work. He probably chooses based on the venue, the audience, and in the case of The View the very early hour was more suited to the acoustic performance. I pondered, though, since I've seen him do TOML with the Idol pianist, who was there to play for Archie, why he didn't use the piano. Guess he wants to make sure America knows he really can play that guitar...

SORRY FOR THE MISPELL - it was not done intentially. I have noticed that the system allows you to edit the post but it does not allow you to edit the header.

Well, maybe Travis will catch it...then maybe he won't... or maybe he won't care! LOL Forgive my Ragginess! I just love the language and I'm not always right, either. I actually had to research acoustic to make sure I was correct before I posted my nagging complaint! HUGS TO ALL!

LMAO! Well, if that's the case, then I'll just have to go check everyone's spelling! (JKJK)

lol @ the pun! but yeah, I'd enjoy it if he did varying versions depending on the night. I wonder if Idol will allow that...

I noticed that too. I'm glad you corrected it smile.gif

and for the note, I love acoustic versions anytime, so I'm fine with David choosing to do acoustic performances.

thus far, David has been allowed to change up TMOL over the past weeks as he has performed it. We will just have to wait for the concert (which ever one we are attending) and see. It will be a surprise.

Scott, that's a good theory and it did occur to me, as well. It's also more economical to have him sing solo with an acoustic guitar since it saves having to pay the band for their time and travel.

I agree. I think it's so he can rest up for next week... next week and then the next three couple of months... lol

Me to. He always scores a 10 out of 10 no matter what he does or how he does it. I just think that if this is a choice of his, it's just another example of how smart and savvy he is. Perhaps his management deserves some credit too.

Interesting theory. I think we're hearing the acoustic versions for a variety of reasons - maybe resting his voice a bit, because of the occasion/audience/venue, don't have the trouble and expense of a full band setting up and playing with him, etc. I have a feeling for the tour, he'll be rockin, though.

I agree, imagine how the AI promoters are loving this guy? Not only does he conduct himself with such charm, ease, and intelligence during interviews(sense of humor too), but they don't have to worry about an elaborate set up...and for any ( bitter rival fans) or anyone else that questions whether AI as valid source for talent, he sounds absolutely incredible with just his guitar. His voice sounds pure and strong...can't question he is a natural talent. wink.gif : .

He's also started recording the album...and will be singing almost every day from next week through September!

That could well be the case. You know it wouldn`t be a bad idea at all to give his a voice a break. wink.gif

He also said when he was interviewed by the kids, that he had been feeling under the weather and could he take a rain check. They had asked him to sing.

I hope our Cookie isn`t feeling unwell. sad.gif

I also agree I love his acoustic versions of these songs. I love that side of him. wink.gif

Oh, he's a dream for them. And a dream come true. I've already heard from some bloggers out here who attended some of the AI rehearsals toward the end of the season... even back then he wowed the studio techs and producers when he recorded each studio version. Few takes, brilliant suggestions and instincts, etc. A real pro. I've also heard, albeit second hand, from some folks in the biz out here in LA that 19 management is truly amazed and impressed by his professionalism.
