Fantasia dropped by 19 Management?

Yet another Idol has been dropped, but not by their record label. The latest casualty is Season 3’s winner, Fantasia Barrino, and it’s Simon Fuller and 19m that’s doing the dropping. This is according to Shirley Halperin at the Entertainment Weekly Hollywood Insider?:



According to the source, deals for David Cook, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, Jordin Sparks, Clay Aiken and Blake Lewis remain in tact.

The past couple of years have been filled with success for Fantasia. Her last album, Fantasia did well on the R&B charts, garnering a hit single, “When I See You”. She starred in the highly rated (but critically panned) movie of her life story on the Lifetime channel, and earned great reviews playing Celie in the Color Purple on Broadway. She’s set to play Celie in the upcoming movie version of the musical. Oprah loves her!

Looks like Fantasia has her own ideas about where her career should be heading…

Just so that everyone understands since Blake is mentioned here, in Fantasia's case, this is only in relation to her management deal with Fuller. Blake's deal as mentioned along with the other names there, is still intact in terms of management.

Just a general thought here: since former Idols seem to be dropping like flies, does anyone think 19 might sign more
of the Class of '08 than originally suspected? While the ratings dropped, overall the DLs for this season were much, much stronger than they were for last season. The Davids are signed and I think it's looking good for MJ and I think they might want Brooke, too.

Maybe Simon F was really scared by "Bore Me". I know I was freaked out.

i don't really get the difference between dropping the label but keeping the management... Blake said bye bye and now Fantasia.

I'm almost sure Michael Johns will sign with them after the tour. He's already working on teh album and has worked with some "names". Besides him I only see Brooke and Jason getting signed with 19, but I'm not sure they will risk it. They usually only give full support to one contestant each season, and it seems this season that guy is DC, so I'm not sure if it would be good for singers like Brooke and Jason to sign with 19... an year and they'll drop them. But it's just speculation.

They will never sign Jason.

I also don't think they will, actually I don't think anyone besides the Davids and MJ will be signed by them. But Jason was/is almost as popular as Archuleta, so if anyone was going to be signed he'd probably be the one (along with Brooke).

Wow, the former Idols are dropping like flies. Let me explain for a few confused people here:

19 is the management company- which is separate from 19 Recordings, and 19R is part of the record label. So whatever label you're on (lets say RCA for the sake of this)- you're signed to RCA/19 Recordings. 19 has it's fingers in so many 'pies' that it gets a little confusing, it's such a HUGE entity of American Idol and the Sony BMG Group.

But just because you are signed to a Sony BMG label doesn't mean you're automatically a part of 19 Recordings. Or a part of 19 Management. Kelly Clarkson is still on a Sony BMG label, but hasn't been a part of 19 Management for years.

And then you have the other end of the scale where you have David Beckham, who's management company is 19...but has never sang a note in his life

I'm willing to bet that her performance on the show didn't do her any favors. It wasn't received very warmly.

As far how all this works, Nickie did a very nice job of expalining it all than I ever could. LOL I don't think Jason will be signed by them either. From what I understand, it was hinted around by Fuller I believe, that one more might possibility get signed by this group but we don't know for sure who.

ROFLMAO. That was my most favorite non-David moment of the entire season. Priceless, really.


Her performance on the show was kind of chaotic. So odd and 'out there.' So, yeah, I'd say it might have had something to do with it.

It was hilarious. In a Sanjaya sort of way. Simon's look was very "WHAT have I unleashed on the world here?"

I'm pretty sure MJ will be the only one signed besides Cookie and Archie. He already has plans to record his album while on tour?!? Yeah, they're keeping him. Kind of interesting since he is an 8th-place finisher and all. However, most Cookie fans seem to be huge MJ fans too and would probably buy his album. Best Bromance Ever!

When Fantasia performed, my mom and I were sitting there looking exactly like Simon. For a minute, I was wondering if they had all lost their minds. I spent most of that performance trying to figure out if she was singing in english. Then I saw Simon's face, and I felt much better about myself because I wasn't sure if I was just missing something. So when I saw his reaction, I felt relieved, and a second later I started laughing so hard; I started crying.

I guess I'm not really suprised...but it seems like a lot are getting dropped!

Why would they have any reason to wait to announce the signing of MJ if they want to sign him? They signed Kristi Lee Cook pretty quick and didn't wait and she's in the same boat as he.
